1911 or 1911A1 fits my hand the best of any gun I have owned.

Toss up between my 3” model 10-5 and my 3” model 65-5. A three inch barreled k frame is wonderful

Revo 3" HB 38 K frame, or a 1911 45 all steel 4" barrel. Having sold my last 65 3" I am forced to carry this old retired duty gun.

Used to think it was my 686+, 6”. Then I got a 327 PC TRR8 and decided it was better and THE gun. Sold the 686 to help pay for it. Should have stopped there, but I finally shot a 1911 and had to get one. My SIG 1911 feels just as good in my hand as the TRR8 and I’m already more accurate with it.

I think I’ve drunk the Kool-Aid, because if I could have only one gun, it would be a 1911. Thank God we can have more than one!

Have to try one. I like longer barrels, but bought a model 60 pro with a 3” barrel because it was on sale. It’s okay, but I don’t love it.

Your model 60 is a j frame and therein lies the difference. Try a k frame they just balance so well and the normal stocks with a grip adapter are so comfortable.

There is no 1 handgun perfect for everything. You would need a small carry gun my pick is a Centennial. You need a 22 target / plinker
Your choice as to a revolver or a semi. You need at least 1 big pistol or revolver. I would figure on 2 handguns. I go w a 1911 and either a S&W 625 Mountain Gun in 45 Colt or 44 Mag or a Ruger Bisley in either 45 Colt or 44 Mag. It would suck to be so limited but if only 1 take the Mountain Gun. I love 1911s but a 45 Colt or 44 Mag is more versatile. Much as I love my custom M 28 or my 627-0, a 357 isn't a 44 or a 45. If you don't do outdoors stuff like hunt or hike where you might run into an animal that bites a 357 would do.

My 45 Colt Bisley seems to shoot where I point it. While it is a great field gun it wouldn't be my choice for defense and forget concealed carry.

I love 1911s and if I had to fight w a pistol or deal w bumps in the night it's one of my first choices. I have carried one while hunting but a big revolver is better.

Now if you really made me just have 1 handgun I'd take my custom 686 4 inch. Barrel has been reshaped to mimic a M66 barrel profile. More durable than a 66 and the extra weight tames down a 357 some. Harder to conceal than a J frame but doable. Plink w 38s use 38+P for home defense to save your ears and 357s for carry. 125 grainers in town and 158s or 180s in the field.

As far as how they fit make them fit w the right grips. Of the 45 to 60 handguns I own exactly 3 handguns that still wear factory stocks. Actually all of the 1911s could but don't. I have 1 set of N square butt combats (out of 3 sets) that really work for me. Factory but not for that 629. My 439 has factory stocks. My Ruger MK II wears factory slabs. My S&W revolvers except 1 either wear Hogue wood no finger groove grips or Pachmyer Compac round butt rubber grips. Both my Ruger Bisleys have thicker than factory custom slabs. My Glock 19 has been to Robar for reshaping and stlippling. I forgot all the Sig 250s (5) are box stock. I have all 3 different frame 9mms plus a 2nd midsize and a 22 for cheap practice when I don't want to pick up brass.

Nope, haven't found the perfect gun yet, still looking. At least that's what I tell the Mrs., the next one is sure to be it, or maybe the next one after that. All things being equal I suppose my 1911s fit the bill more than anything. Sig 245 is close though.

Shield 45, it is awesome!!! Compact, reliable, hard hitting, affordable, comfortable, and has a manual safety. Everything I want in a carry gun. Give me a version that has a threaded barrel(NOT PORTED), elevated sights that are also night sights, and offer it with a 10mm conversion barrel and magazine. Forgetaboutit……...

3913/3913NL/3914 in a concealed carry auto.................................

three inch model 66 in a revolver..........................

4" round butt 686 in a all purpose/utility/duty carry .357 revolver.

Alternate between a Glock 19 and a Dan Wesson 1911. Neither are perfect but I’m as close as I’m going to get.

Nobody will like my answer, but honestly, any of my Canik TP9xx family come closest...my HK VP9, SW M&P9 and Beretta APX are great, but the Caniks win by a nose.

I feel the same about my 2 Caniks. Compared to our M&P 9, Shield 9, 4006, XD Mod 2, SR9, SR 1911, FN509, I prefer shooting the Caniks. All are nice weapons in their own right.

My 686+ 4" and my MP 45 Midsize. All the rest that I own are compromises.

My 627 4 inch 8 shot...just see the target, hit the target.

John Browning got it just right with what became the Colt 1911.

Shoots and works better than any other handgun, IMHO.

I think my 4" 66-1 is the one I shoot best, so far. I have a half dozen or so I haven't tried yet. My Beretta 92FS shoots point of aim as well, but I like shooting K frames the best of all, with the ugly Pachmayr's.

My m66-1 4 inch and Colt 1911 .45 do it for me.

Lost in the 50s

As much as I love K frames, the revolver I shoot best and feels the most comfortable in my hand is a 4" 686 no dash. I carried a 686 on duty for a number of years and the one I own is like shaking hands with an old friend. It wears the same old ugly rubber Pacs that were on my past duty gun. This no dash that I currently own is the most accurate handgun I own as well. It has fired some very small 25 yard groups over the years.

You know, I'm starting to get that feeling towards my new PX4 Compact. Changed a few parts, added some Talon Grips. It feels really good in my hand. I'm still getting the hang of shooting it, only put 250 rounds through it so far, will probably hit the range this week and put maybe another couple hundred rounds through it. Just started working with it from the holster (dry fire, no live fire...yet). Sights are pretty much on target as soon as I bring it up. I could see the PX4 replacing my 642 as an EDC in the very near future.

Of course, it could just be a new gun "honeymoon" phase before "reality" kicks in.

My Model 18's seem to be as close to perfect as anything I've found so far.

My BHP bought new in 1968 and carried for over 40 years. Now in retirement my main shooters, a 17-1 closely followed by my Ruger Standard Mark I of 1970. Actually the Ruger is the more natural pointer but I just love the machinery of the 17-1. I am also very fond of my current carry gun a 649-2.

Exactly. Possibly the best handgun design ever as far as fitting a wide array of shooters hands. Still going strong 106+ years after its debute.

Heretical as it may be to say on this forum, and to anyone who loves modern firearms (which I've got nothing against, as evidenced by the plethora of them in my safe), but if we're disregarding caliber/intended purpose etc etc...the one handgun that I find it nearly impossible to miss with is the old Colt 1908 - .380 Pocket Auto. Is it for the wilds of Alaska and bears? No. Some will even object to the .380 as a defensive caliber. But it is the one model of handgun the I can use in almost any grip configuration, from the old single-handed cavalry stance to Weaver or even point shooting, and hit my intended POA every time out to 20-25 yards. No idea why, and I love my plinker .22s and big magnums, but they got this one just right for me.

Funny that so many mentioned the 1911, I never found them to be all that pleasant to shoot.
I have done some dremel work to my gen 4 g19 and it now fits my hands very well. Just doesn't have the feel of a steel gun.
Some revolvers bother my 2nd finger. The way the grips are and the weight of the gun pivots right on top of the 2nd finger. Might just be me with an old injury to that finger though. I think that's why I like the 3" 686, not as heavy out front

Would have to say for a revolver it's my 3" 686+. It's cut for moon clips by TK Customs, and has the factory master revolver action package. It's as good as I could ever want in a wheel gun.

For a semi-auto it's currently a VP9SK with Heinie straight 8 night sights.
The combo just fits my hand and eye perfectly. Small enough to carry daily without much effort if I didn't have the little Kahrs - pocket carry works very well for me.

I've tried to like the 1911 several times over the years, but they are not for me. Can't deal with the grip angle and ergonomics, beautiful though.

I was watching Forgotten Weapons Q&A and he was asked …...If you could only have one handgun to shoot for the rest of your life what would it be? He said "Right now the Hudson H9." IF, and that is a big IF they work out the problems with the magazine ejecting while firing, and the light strike issues then I would very much like to shoot and maybe purchase it one day. Until then I am going to go with the Springfield TRP Operator. It is the production version of the FBI model and the ONLY gun to pass the FBI's demanding test.

I have a modest collection of eight S&W....five with P&R TT, TH, TS...three later models.....but when it comes down to saving my life in a dark situation...my Browning HP....points to where my minds eye want the bullets to go...the sights are redundant..

Revolver - 2.5” 66/19

It was my S&W Shield 9mm, but it's now become the Sig Sauer P365.

A few years ago I did an article for the perfect handgun for the one gun person here in Maine.
Took all the criteria, threw it out on the table and came up with with my Model 66-2 2 1/2”. I did change out the stocks for a pair of Mr. Grashorn’s pre-war magnas, making a better fit for my small hands. For me, this fills the bill as most comfortable, concealable, accurate within reasonable distances, all around gun.

At the moment, it is my firm opinion that the Glock 19X is the perfect daily carry defensive handgun, if you don't need to conceal it . . .

took almost 40 years to get the Commander and another 30some for the CCO
