Another product to try is the DeSantis Clip Grip:
DeSantis Clip Grip Right Hand S&W Round Butt J-Frame - MPN: T07BA02Z0
I liked it better than the Barami I had. It has a nice texture for less slipping and is more comfortable.

I had the Barami years ago. I felt it was not durable and didn’t last long.

The Barami product was fairly common back in the 1960's and 1970's. I did not care much for them, and don't recall seeing one for at least 30 years. I expect they will show up on eBay or at gun shows.

I had one back in the day. In fact I think it's still on that Detective Special. It's better than just sticking the gun in your waistband, which was actually somewhat common back then. It's not as good as a holster. Holster design today makes the hip grip less attractive.
It was also VERY slick and smooth. It's just polished plastic, and there's zero texture or grip. Back in the 70's, there was a school of thought that the grip should be as smooth as possible so you could shift your grip as you presented in case you didn't get a good hold of the gun. For a while even factory guns were sporting smooth grips. Then the pendulum swung the other way and everyone wanted as tacky as possible and rubber was the "next big thing". You could put some kind of tape stuff on there I suppose.
I tried out the DeSantis take on the idea on my 642. They are actually good grips in there own right. The clip thingy works as well or better than any other, but it's still not as good as a holster. Again, better than just sticking it in your waistband.
I liked the actual grip part well enough that I just left them on there. It hasn't interfered with the holsters I use, and I suppose if I need it, it is there.
In the end, better than nothing, not as good as a holster.

6 months or so ago i got a new in package barami hip grip for my j frame. these are the worst grips i have ever seen. had to build up in inside of the grips with bondo so that the grips would fit and not shift back and forth. then had to sand the outside as the grips where VARY proud to the frame. after all that effort i then didn't like the way the gun hung at my waist. and 'm not fussy at all. ya couldn't run fast enough to catch me and give me a set. don't waste your $ even if they are free.

They still make 'em. I bought one last winter. It's OK for certain applications. I did add a piece of bicycle innertube over the grip. They are slick but the inner tube fixed that.

My partner carried his Detective special that way for 32 years on the job first as a backup in uniform then as a backup in plain clothes and as his off duty method of carry. He continued to carry this way under Leosa. God rest his soul.

In 50 years of carrying concealed I have never found anything that works better than the Barami Hip Grip if a person has a need to really conceal. Before I found out about Barami I would tape a small strip of wood to the grip that worked the same way. Larry

I use it in a certain social setting that involves being in a crowded room surrounded by people. I pocket carried in that setting and I was worried that someone sitting behind me for an hour might get a glimpse of grip/bulge in my pocket.

I was issued a Barami for a 4" Model 15 in 1971 Sky Marshal school. At 155 pounds I flew on 4 continents with the gun under banlon (sp?) shirts and never got made. Wasn't always comfortable but worked good.
Best, Joe

I have a Barami on my Model 38 paired with a Tyler T. The gun carries great, doesn't move around and is very comfortable to shoot. I think the Tyler adapter helps to keep the gun from shifting in my hand when shooting and makes up for the Barami smoothness. I've considered scuffing up the surface of the Barami with sandpaper.
You won't find a more concealable option. Just one man's opinion.

Use one with my Charter Arms .44 on occasion, simple but affective.
