Default I must admit, I appendix carry a 4" K frame every day

My model 19

Been doing it for the past 2-3 months. It is comfortable, I have had no issue with it and I shoot the 135gr speer gold dot magnum rounds very, very well out of it. I prefer it over my Glocks just because.

It is my do all gun. I got sick of swapping out safe guns for desert, city, rural, etc etc. So I picked up a leather holster and tried it.

Will probably get one with a sweat guard down the road as when seated in the truck sometimes I can feel the hammer. But it isn't bad.

Works great and I believe I am going to stick with it. Just thought I would share.

Selecting an EDC and sticking with it makes much more sense then a rotation. With a rotation, you will always have lag time between knowing what is happening, processing it and putting your defense into action. Bad things process very quickly and the time it takes figuring out what your gun of the day is, where it is and how it operates can be very detrimental to your health. Seasonal or situational rotation can be an exception but at least, the same type of weapon should be considered. I have carried as a requirement of my job for 44 years for offensive and defensive reasons and believe me, CCW is not a hobby, something to make you look like a big shot or for fun... this is serious stuff and not all are capable of the responsibility.

I was just rotating a jframe, bulldog, n frame, and the k frame... same operation. But now I can just grab and go. But there is also something to be said of mastering different platforms. Same reason I keep educated and keep my body in shape. The gun is just a tool in the toolbox and I like to be well rounded. My brain health and being able to still physically fight an adversary approaching 50 is also important.

I do keep all my rotation similar though. There are zero manual safeties on any carry firearm I own.

I carried a Mod. 19 4in for about 20 years as a plain clothes investigator and never had any problems with it.

I carried a 4" model 10 HB until someone offered me some cash for it. ( I had it reblued by S&W)

Then I sent my 642 back to S&W under warranty so now I'm currently carrying my 4" 686... lol

If you can comfortably carry a 4" K frame square butt then go for it. I guess I could adapt somehow as I do carry a 3.5" 1911 AIWB sometimes, although I'm not thrilled with the holster I have for it. I also carry my 2.75" 69 AIWB in a holster for a 3" L frame.

A round butt would make it easier to conceal the profile. I'm sure if I had your slim physique it would be much easier. Unfortunately, it's not going to lay as flat against the body in my case.

IMHO, here in S. Fl. it's too humid to carry a traditionally blued gun. Just too much sweat. A sweat guard would be an absolute necessity.

Nice looking gun!

That appendix carry is probably easier for a man with a nice, slim body as opposed to some of us chunkier gentlemen. I might have to try it sometime if I lose weight.

Query - what do you conceal that gun with? A loose shirt, or what?

T shirt or a button up short sleeve. Both work well.

I've not done this for two reasons:

1. I'm not a "flat body", which is pretty much required unless you stand up 100% of the time.

2. I have a basic problem with a gun pointing at my crotch. Maybe that's just me.

I would carry my 686 like that if I was thin like you. I have to carry at 3 o clock. Great stags by the way.

Today I'm carrying my 4 inch Model 65-1 in a Bianchi #7 pancake at 3 o'clock under a Hawaiian shirt. The other gun that I carry (Can you have a 2 gun rotation?) is my 2 inch Model 12-2. I'll carry it in an old Bucheimer Concealer at 3 o'clock or in a Don Hume JIT worn crossdraw (when I carry both). I swap out between the #7 and a #5BHL depending on concealed or open carry.

Not skinny enough at 66 to carry AIWB. In fact, don't carry IWB in any case.

I find appendix very comfortable. Very discrete and for over 20 years I have not worried about shooting off my junk because I use proper gear, don’t bubba up my triggers, and do not feel the need to do ridiculous no look tacticool reholsters when training.

I don't see how appendix carry would work for anyone that ever sat down but if it's working for you, do it!

*If it's stupid but it works, it's not stupid.

I usually pocket carry a J frame but now that I have lost weight and freed up space on the belt, I have begun to return to OWB carry. Here lately I have been carrying my S&W 1911 roundbutt PC in a Safariland ALS and loving it. We'll have to wait to see if the change will cause a delay in reaction to a threat.

I have my 1911 Commander in AIWB, while I sit here and type..

It stays there most of the day. Something you get used to.

As a note I also have a neoprene wedge velcroed to the holster and it really works well in both comfort and fit

Very nice setup. It's hard to go wrong with a 4" K frame, and I love the grips.

I'm 5'8" @ 175lb s with a bit of a gut and I carried my RB 4" M10 AIWB for a while before I got my SB 4" M29, which I also carried AIWB frequently though it was a bit long and got uncomfortable occasionally. When my M29 broke and had to return to S&W I got my 3" M629 which I also carried AIWB. However, I never could find a AIWB holster I really liked for my revolvers, and have recently gotten a very nice locally made pancake that has become my primary holster.

That said, whenever I need max concealment I go AIWB. Unless in uniform I wear cargo shorts, a somewhat loose button-up shirt (not too big), and a reinforced belt, though that is far less important when carrying AIWB.

I carry AIWB with 2” snub nose revolvers in a Cardini nylon holster with sweat guard. You are correct about the hammer issue. With the sweat guard you don’t feel a thing.
I am 6’4” and 280 with a slight belly extension. Can wear my gun all day standing, sitting, any position with comfort.
I practice draw with snap caps. The only time the gun would come out of the holster is if it had to be used.
If I need to remove the gun,I remove the holster with gun inside.

Be SAFE and Shoot often!

Added some glow on paint to the front sight. Works well day or night.

Been going well. I carry the snub when I need something more discrete or lighweight.

I still want to get a straight drop with a clip that has a hammer shield. Get a little black and blue from the hammer but nothing I cannot live with. Looks like it is going to have to be a custom job. I found kydex but no way I am putting this girl in plastic. It rode with my dad on the job, now it rides with me to protect myself and my family.

I like the way the holster sits and slightly moved when seated. The square butt hides well even under a t-shirt. Very concealed.

I carry 357 mag reloads in speedstrips but in the speedloaders I carry 38+P reloads as I found the longer length of the magnum rounds causes issues when reloading under speed.

I shoot this very well and it is by far my favorite gun. Here she is at 25 yards off hand using my 357 magnum 135gr speer gold dot carry rounds.

When I head out to the desert it goes in an original lobo (Ray) made pancake with my dads old dump pouch full of 180 grain hardcast and 135gr gold dots. I feel I am never under armed.

This is the one gun I would pick above all others because it truly does it all.

No way it's going to waste it's life in a safe. It was meant to be carried and shot.

I work out 4 times a week. Run and walk every day. Mountainbike and hike. Try to eat as best I can.

It isn't blessed. It is self discipline and work ethic.

I am almost 50 and I work hard to stay in shape and keep within two inches of the same pants size I had when I entered basic training 30 years ago. I am proud of that.

Eb07, I agree that a 4” barrel is no harder to carry than a snub.

I am also interested in the open knife. I lost my USA made Cold Steel one hand and need a replacement one hand or automatic of the size you show.

Thanks,

Jack
