Cicero officer shot on Southwest Side at Stevenson Expressway - Chicago Tribune

One officer shot, another under fire. Licensed citizen intervenes. A situation you would not have seen here just a few years ago.

In Cicero the reporting may be accurate. Some of the gangs there are surprisingly well-armed. A few years ago the Trib would have been speculating about what charges would be brought against the Good Samaritan.

Just bad reporting, something both Chicago newspapers are known for. You hear very little, if anything, about truly automatic weapons in this area. It's mostly bangers with semi-autos doing a spray-and-pray.

I'm speculating what charges may be brought against the officers involved. Or is this just standard procedure?

The actual quote is: "Sgt. Rocco Alioto said Chicago police wound handle the investigation and the Illinois State Police would investigate the officer-involved shooting." Yes, it's SOP to have an outside agency investigate officer-involved shootings. Lessens the chance of being accused of not doing a proper investigation.

Bail denied for California man suspected of shooting Cicero police officer - Chicago Tribune

The related stories at the end are interesting, too. Since Illinois decriminalized concealed carry 4 years ago, there have been 40 documented shootings by CCL holders. 10 attackers have died and one CCL.

Automatic=Glock with extended magazine

Suspect=parolee on a 2014 child sex trafficking conviction with another outstanding sex warrant who didn't understand that the GPS tracker was supposed to stay on his ankle.

Likely outcome=He'll plead to Unlawful Use of a Weapon, get 6 years, serve 2. Rinse and repeat. His wounds are to the ankle, were inflicted by the 2nd officer and qualify him for lifetime Social Security disability because a pimp can't limp.

I sincerely hope your "likely outcome" is wrong. Perhaps attempted murder of law enforcement officer(s)? One can dream can't I?

Best outcome would have been that they'd hit him in the head rather than the ankle.

Oh, he has been charged with that, but I have no confidence that he will ever go to trial. Plead 'em down, plead 'em out. It's the Chicago way. CPD Cmdr. Paul Bauer was killed in February by a 4 time loser who never did bottom time on any of his priors.
