Although I am primarily a revolver guy, I do have a bunch of semi auto pistols. With the exception of the KelTec P32, PPK and Firestar .40, they are all full size steel guns. I prefer Colt Government Models. At the moment I’m trying to decide what Gov’t Model to buy next. The new 1911 Classic is a possibility, or the Series 70 repro, or the Gunsite Model is very tempting. If I get the Classic do I get the .45 or the .38 Super? Maybe both? I need a cheaper hobby.
I haven’t carried an auto pistol, besides the P32, in years. When I did it was a Colt 1991 or a Commander. If I went back to a pistol, it would be a Gov’t Model.
I just realized I do have a service sized plastic gun. Just recently bought a Glock 32 .357 pistol. The cop price was really reasonable and the store had 1,000 rounds of ball for $200. Couldn’t pass it up.

Absolutely!
I keep a wonderful, Italian military turn in M92 Beretta fully loaded and hidden in my house and eventually, after I get to shoot it, I'll do the same with my S&W police turn in M5903.
I won't carry those big guns but definitely they are kept around and ready for use.
Next size down, like a 6906, will get carried, but those full sized guns are for the house.
Revolvers and miscellaneous home defense guns are included, too, but you asked about full sized automatic pistols.

Define "full size"..... cus two of my favorite carry guns.... if I'm not carrying my Burbs of the Burgh 3913........ are my PC Shorty-9 and a old Beretta 92 "Compact" ..............
if I still carried cocked and locked it would be a Browning HP

I am likely buying myself a birthday present in November, a RIA 52009. 5" full sized all steel double stack 10mm 1911A2. No idea how many pounds with a loaded mag. More than my 5906, that's for sure.

I carry only metal framed hammer fired guns. And this one still gets carried on my part time job.
With a gunbelt and quality holster, the weight of the gun is not an issue, for me. Regards 18DAI

You mean like this? It's not full weight, though. It has an alloy frame. I've never had a 17 shooter before. Man. It's awesome.
I can see some definite uses for this gun. Like when I'm out camping, alone. Or when I drive down into the city. It would be a good car gun. Cross-draw Mexican carry would work for short periods of time.

I'm not inherently opposed to plastic . If you want 10mm on purpose, Glock is the best platform for it .
That said , I both like metal guns , and carry full sized - ish . Good holster, good belt, dress around the gun . Civillian P225 , because it has best DA of any bottomfeeder I own . P90 has alloy frame, but is similar size and weight of a Combat Commander . And in turn , recently been having a hankering to finally reconfigure ( drop in & reverseably ) my actual Combat Commander , and put it into rotation . ( It's been in limbo because it is VG condition 1970's gun in Coltgaurd , but the stock grip safety lets the hammer bite my hand , and I am very much a Long/ Flat kind of guy, and the oem configuration is Short/ Arched .)
********
Different holster styles have their places , and both styles of belt slide have their advantages and disadvantages . Within that context , an M92 would be as equally suitable or unsuitable as any other full size pistol .

A couple of 1911s, three Walthers 2 (PPK, 1 PPK/s) and a H&K P7. But I don't carry them routinely, I'm a fan of plastic autos.

I have a bunch of steel 1911s but not a fan of toting them, same for my 1006. Also several full size plastic guns but dont carry those much either.

CCW Full Size Handguns
Depending on the day and activities I normally CCW full size Glocks or a S&W Model 457 .45acp. When I CCW Revolvers they are full size.

I've been a "revolver guy" ever since I started carrying. I carry a 640 Pro Series. Last Sunday I shot my friends 9mm Tarus millinium. Even though we had trouble with it, I had a ball shooting 9mm! After doing some research, this morning I bought a CZ 75B stainless. I haven't shot it yet but it could replace the 640 sometimes.

I've been carrying my M&P 9 for over 10 years with no problems. It also serves as my nightstand gun. Before that my 5906 was my carry gun. You just have to learn how to dress around the gun when you carry. I rarely have to carry more than 4 or 5 hours at the time so the weight isn't a factor.

Certainly
I have a "We the People" fanny pack that carries a full sized, Ruger P89. I love the gun and shoot it very well. It is my most carried firearm because of the fannypack. It conceals very well. There is also room for my keys and stuff. I'm thinking of getting a second "WTP" fanny pack for my S&W 64.

I was carrying a Colt Cobra (original type). I have many holsters for it. Sometimes an M38 in a pocket holster.
Nowadays its a 3914 DAO carried IWB. It's easy to carry, easy to shoot, no worries with it. I like better than my M&P9c

My house guns are full size: 1911-45, XDM-40, M&P-40 with lasers. What I carry are smaller and lighter.

The last couple of days I've been shooting the CZ 75 and you was right, I just love this gun!!! So far I've ran 200 rounds thru it and had zero issues with it. The test target said it shot high and to the right. My experiences showed it was way right(4 inches). A little sight adjustment and it is "dead-on".This gun is a pleasure to shoot. Next week I'm going to order a Tucker holster for it and will more than likely put it in the rotation with a little more range time of course. I can see more of these in my future!!!!

A M645 was my last duty pistol before stepping away for medical reasons. In uniform with a proper belt, I don't see the size / weight of a full size steel pistol to be a problem at all. I still have it and if I was healthy enough for duty, I'd strap it on tomorrow, fully confidant.
In concealment, size and weight become factors... also because you can't practically wear a solid gun belt.

I recently bought a Springfield Armory 10mm 5.25" XD-M.
It may have a polymer frame but with 16 rounds aboard it's not a lightweight. It makes my 1911 feel like a compact weapon.
It shoots well and unlike my last two new S&Ws' it didn't have to go in for repairs immediately.

Understood. 1911s' are my favorite and pre lock S&Ws' are sweet, especially the N frame.
Glocks... Ugh.
I think you would like shooting the XD-M I mentioned in the above post. Just pretend it's a frisky, well built ugly girl and don't look too close.

Have a full size M&P. Might not be all steel, but the 17rd mag does make it a load. Don't carry it on a regular basis, but when I do, a good belt & holster make things easier.

I have the RO Elite in 10mm and really enjoy the gun but agree it would be a bit much for EDC

I carried a Colt 1991 Commander every day for close to 10 years, but the weight started to become an issue about a year ago. In my dotage I've discovered that I like a little polymer in my life. Nowadays I switch between a Shield 45 and a 6906 depending on clothes, mood, or capacity needs.

Aside from the G-26 as a BUG, my issued G-19M is the smallest thing I carry. Generally I carry a 5" 1911, CZ-75 or a K, L or N frame in .357, .44 Spl or .45 Colt. Proper belt and holster selection is the key to not shortchanging yourself on ballistic performance or concealability.

Though I bought it back in the mid 70's, I still have and use as a house gun a 1943 Remington- Rand 1911A1,
that was part of the National Match program at Springfield Arsenal in the 1960's. The Army sold it at Camp Peary thru CMP.
I do limit the old warhorse to standard pressure loads these days, but with a 5 inch bbl. that is enough.

To my dismay, I've reached the age where toting around a BHP or other big-*** metal frame pistol is not an option, and in fact, many options have been receding as I get older. It isn't from lack of proper leather gear, either.
I was very happy to carry a Beretta or SiG .380 and still do, but the SiG P365 has been a game changer for me. I mean, look at this list of guns (allmost all of which are long gone) at the comparative weights here.
NOTE: these are loaded weights, usually with the the heaviest bullet I can find in that caliber. The list is a powerful argument that the P365 is an ideal combination of weight, caliber, capacity and reliability. And I'm not really a SiG guy - I far prefer Walthers. I find the P365 a rather soulless although perfectly reliable little product.

My newest is a Rock Island FS 1911. Put a few hundred hardballs, and one clip of hollowpoints through it, and it shoots where I point. Its all steel, and well fitted, almost custom. Otherwise the rest of my all steels are wheelguns only.

I recently purchased a SIG P226 .40 S&W with DAK trigger, which really amounts to a 12 shot revolver It was in excellent condition and I paid only $309 shipped to me.
I only own big steel guns for .40 S&W, .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum.
I might buy an M&P 2.0 in .40 but it's not a big priority for me right now.

You been peep'n in my safe?
I don't mind carrying my 4516, and do a lot. Currently been carrying a Sig P229 40 cal, which weights about the same. Weird as it sounds, I truthfully can't tell a huge difference between it and my Shield 45. A little for sure, but I'm also pack'n twice the number of rounds.
I carried a Para- Ord P-14 for a bit, and another 15 rd .45 (SARK2, which is a dandy for the price!), and they do let you know you've got some weight on you. The extra mags seem to bother me the most in the double stack big bores though, so I don't pack them much. (who needs 30 rounds of .45's anyway )
