MY LITTLE .44
For years I provided training for folks wanting their concealed
weapons license. Usually small groups, but often just one on
one.
I was doing the one on one for a nice lady one time, and she
told me a story I thought was interesting and a bit humorous.
Thought you might enjoy it.
It seems she was sitting in her recliner after dinner one evening,
and heard footsteps up to her front door. Then a big bang as
the door was kicked open.
She went on to explain how a big man came in, looked around,
and headed right for her.
She said I had my little 44 laying right there, so I grabbed it and
shot at him.
I asked did you hit him. Yes, she said, in the foot.
Then she said he is limping around out at the penitentiary now,
and I understand he says he is going to get even with me when
he gets out. (Some guys never learn)
That is why she wanted to start carrying concealed.
BTW The little 44 was a Charter Bulldog.

Better than depending on a restraining order.
Good luck to her.

shooting C.A..44 Bulldog Revolver makes Her a real woman in my book.
I have one with pachiemer grips and the recoil is a mite too much for me.

Well, it wasn't a one shot stop, but I recon it was a one shot slow way down. At that point I doubt he could catch her andshe still had that Bulldog and 4 more rounds.
Good for her. If he comes back I hope she hits higher. Dead center and about 30" higher should do it.

I can't remember the exact details but long before I was the Marshal here in town, there was a great big guy who had been the Marshal in another burg up the road as well as here. New Castle, Parachute or Rifle. He was walking through town one night and found an open door in a business establishment. He entered and was shot with a 12ga. I can't remember what size pellets were used. He was reportedly wearing a heavy leather Jacket at the time. As I recall the story, he was hit in the side and the arm with the blast. I think that is when the Marshal lost his sense of humor with the burglar. The shooter then exited the premises and ran across the street at which point the Marshal pulled his Triple Lock . 44 and shot the miscreant in the foot, slowing him down a might. I have met the son of the prior Marshal who owns and has let me handle the aforementioned Triple Lock. I have offered to purchase it and would love to have it in my collection since he and I were both Town Marshals here and the fact that it is a lovely Triple Lock. As I recall, the son told me that from time to time, dad would dig a pellet out from under the skin while sitting at the kitchen table.

Tell her that if he shows up at her house again to put the next bullet a bit higher and more towards the center.

If the guy gets out of jail, she might want to consider even bigger medicine, say a Rem 870. That might change his mind again. Also, given the alleged revenge statement, consider a no contact order immediately upon release.

Totally off topic, but just a question for some of you LEO's. I'm sure many incarcerated "bad guys" have said that to the person who put them behind bars, but in reality, what's a ballpark percentage of those who actually try to follow through with that threat? Any guesses?
I've read that restraining orders and no contact orders are pretty much useless when you've got a bozo who isn't thinking real straight in the first place.

I wouldn't say to an ascertainty how it would turn out in the furture,
but I do know how somethings have worked out in the past.
To stay on the subject at hand, in addition to my 44 sidearm,
I keep a short 45-70 '86 close at hand as well.

If a protection order (by whatever title known) works, it probably wasn't needed. The real benefit in having such an order is that a JUDGE has reviewed whatever facts were alleged to justify the order, and concluded that there was a sufficient basis. That can be a big point in one's favor in the event of a future use of force. Not controlling by a long shot, but a nice piece of evidence to have.

I know of two who tried to make good on their threats. One was warned off by associates. The other got an extra 10 years to think about it. There was no paper involved. They represented less than .01 percent.

Reminds me of a thing that was said to my better half some years back, she was purchasing a Dirty Harry special for our son who was too young at the time. The dealer looked at her and asked "A little something for your purse Mam?" True story.

I remember reading a funny story years ago about a little old lady who shot a car thief out in her driveway. Since this was not her first time, and she was using a . 44 magnum, she had the presence of mind to put on her ear protection. Something about the look of confusion on the perps face as he eyed the nice old lady in the doorway with the earmuffs and the BIG handgun... Mas Ayoob maybe??

Charter has out now a “Son of Sam” version with original 3” tapered blued barrel and wooded stocks.
Neat guns and the .44 packs a huge punch, but I never found the Bulldog to be all that concealable. It’s a thick gun.

Why do I get the feeling that most of the miscreants in the clink don't know who Walter Brennan is??

I was going to say Amos McCoy but figured that reference was out further in the weeds.

The original Charter Arms Bulldog was quite concealable for me, because the wooden grips constituted a distinct ledge on the right side. It was very secure carried IWB with no holster or clip, far more so than any J frame. I carried it at ten o'clock wearing a suit.
