The South Africans had flame throwers under sill frames on their cars. If they got mobbed they just give them a shot of crispy critters. What’s going on here is a lot like they went through, they lost to the Commies.

If you watch the video of the Albuquerque shooting you’ll see the shooter went from being the center of attention to all alone in the street once that little gun came out and he stuck a bunch of rounds in the guy who was
hitting him with a skateboard. That guy’s almost last words were “I’m going to ******* kill you!” He lived, and the most serious charges against the shooter have been dropped.

My beloved purple-haired liberal daughter was there that day. She heard the shots but missed the action.

Maybe some of these protesters are made of sterner stuff, but I suspect most will say “feet do your stuff” and call the cops they want to defund once lead starts to fly.

I have now made a change. After being given grief from my shooting buddies I started carrying a spare magazine for all guns. All carries are single stack but operator accurate

1) if possible, don't be in stupid places where stupid people are doing stupid things

2) you can never have too many backup plans. besides things that go boom, also keep and know how to use sharp things, blunt things, etc.

3) everybody is recording video of everything, but will selectively edit out parts that don't support their narrative. make sure you have the ability to secure your own record of what transpires.

4) vote out politicians and boycott businesses who pander to these mobs!

I have been taking a real hard look at my choices as of late. Just in general. My primary reason for currently carrying snubs is really potential contact scenarios. If those situations truly aren’t a priority or unlikely, then they start to not make nearly as much sense to me.

There were a few days when my destination for some personal activity skirted an area within a very miles from where a major city was experiencing some protests, some if which involved violence. On those days I made sure my travel routes avoided the troublesome areas, and decided to go with a cover garment and a belt gun instead of a pocket-holstered gun.

Thus, instead of a 6-shot LCP or 5-shot snub, I chose to carry a 9, .40 or .45. That resulted in the magazine capacities ranging from 7-9rds for the 9/.40 guns, and 6rds for the subcompact .45 belt gun. I left the 8-10rd .45's and the 12rd .40 options in the safe.

Bottom line, I'd invested many years and thousands of rounds running those 9, .40 & .45 guns through the range while serving as an instructor, so they were very familiar and well-used options.

I just added an extra mag in my carry scheme. I just have to hope that 17 plus 17 +1 is sufficient.

Sometimes looking at role-specific & situational context in anticipated activities, combined with ongoing risk assessments, may require some prudent flexibility in gear selections.

Having options can be a good thing, as can being able to adjust gear selection to help address and optimize shifting priorities for various situations.

Then again, while I still keep a set of body armor in my trunk, I never go out wearing it anymore. No longer spending my days/nights going out and inserting myself into suspected or known dangerous situations to actively invoke official status. Retirement has its perks.

Instead of me going out all the time to try and find where trouble exists (in an official capacity), now trouble has to actively make the effort to come find me.

Your post reminded me that I didn't address the spare ammunition consideration.

With the exception of one particular day's excursion, I carried a single spare magazine (6-9rds). The exception was a day when I decided to put an additional double mag carrier in my car (7rd mags), giving me a total of 3 spare 7rd mags while in my car.

Kinda reminded me of before my retirement, when I was wearing an issued 4513TSW and wore either 1 or 2 spare 7rd or 8rd (standard for the issued 4566TSW) mags in my plainclothes assignment, but often had another couple of spare mags (and some boxed ammunition) in my unmarked car.

That can definitely happen. I still travel a fair amount and google maps has mistakenly directed me to some really bad neighborhoods on a couple of occasions. I had to go to Chicago(northwest suburbs) recently and had planned on not going anywhere near the city, but for whatever reason google took me to the south side in heavy traffic.

A couple of years ago, it had me turn off into a really bad area in Miami. Cities roadways can change a great deal over a few short years, especially the freeways and it can be easy to get turned around even in a city you may have once known fairly well years earlier.

Now your talking...if you want a lot of firepower...carry some extra mags and have them readily accessible. I'm "forced" to carry a glock 9mm on duty but off or plain cloths my choice is a 45 M&P or a 45 1911.

Yes and yes. I live in the burbs north of Minneapolis about 30 mins where the incident happened. Capacity was one of the reasons I got a 9C 3.6”. It was down to the SW or the SA XDM Elite (which I still might get). The looters and riots moved fast. They hit a mall that’s 15 mins away from me. All I had was a .22 rifle used for small game. Figured I needed a little more punch, so I picked up the 9mm. The wife actually encouraged me to get it so why not. BTW, looking for two more mags. What’s a good place to get them from?

I don't carry the Taurus. Not yet. But I have it incase social unrest comes to my neighborhood.
During the Michael Brown unrest I barely missed getting stranded on Highway 270 when a crowd of protesters/rioters where coming down the embankment, just prior to shutting down the expressway. I could see the crowd coming down the hillside as I drove past. I just made it out of there.
I remember that Brown deal too. I was traveling that summer and my return route to Oklahoma originally took me through STL during the height of the mayhem. I just detoured and avoided it altogether. Had a very nice scenic tour of southern Indiana, SE Missouri. It worked out. Avoidance first.

Haven't made any changes. My Shield 9mm with 9 rounds and a spare mag are likely more than sufficient for any situation I might encounter.

Ruger LCP is most practical and dependable SD I can think of. The 380 has adequate power for most humans. The size and weight of it is carry friendly and LCP in the pocket is worth two 45s at home in a drawer.

I think it depends on where you live. Violent crime is very unusual where I live. I do sometimes go into the city but it isn't often enough that I feel I need to change anything. I'm not sure what an armed insurrectionist would be looking for in my neighborhood.

This kind of talk always reminds me of the Dirty Harry movie scene where bad guy goes in liquor store that owner had been publicized for stopping a robbery with his gun. He was more than happy to brag about it to bad guy.
Bad guy wraps a bottle around guys head, steals his money and his gun. This is just a movie but it shows you the real value of advertising. Not a plus when issues of SD are involved. Run your mouth and put on a show, in a way you will be protecting others who can take advantage of bad guys attention on you to pull their CW or flee the threat.

I have reservations about advertising my carry status. On the one hand, it could deter a threat. On the other hand, it may allow others to disarm you. Criminals today are pretty bold. I prefer to maintain the element of surprise for my favor/benefit.

I recently started carrying my new Shield 45 M2.0 and I'm giving my 642-1 a rest.

Just for a change and no other reason.

A few years ago I had planned on doing the same thing but bought a Glock 45 M36.

What a pile of garbage that gun was.

I was recently in a historic medium sized North Carolina town having dinner at a nice restaurant. When my wife and I left the restaurant I drove down the street and heard loud crowd noises. When I took a left on Main Street. I looked in my rear view mirror and there were hundreds of people chanting marching in my direction from a block away. I simply kept driving and left the area. Never underestimate how fast something can happen. Imagine if I was taking a right.....

The majority of these “protestors” are young. Another large slice of them are the intellectual type. These people are fine acting out under the protection of friendly administrations. They have nothing to fear. They don’t have to be shot. These people probably have never been in a fist fight their whole life. Sometime soon they are going to run into a crew of workers who will beat the snot out off the mob. If cops wade in busting skulls it’s going to take all the fun out of it. It’s coming sure as Christmas.

A couple of years ago, it had me turn off into a really bad area in Miami. Cities roadways can change a great deal over a few short years, especially the freeways and it can be easy to get turned around even in a city you may have once known fairly well years earlier.
Happened to me last year on a trip to St louis. I like architecture & was going thru the mansion district, lots of one ways there. Took a wrong turn & instantly realized my mistake. In the brief couple of blocks to 180 & get back to the decent part of town, I picked up a car tail of three young blacks. I pretty much knew the drill & managed to keep a car between us but soon as I got to a safer street, made an unexoected turn & got a middle finger from the driver. It happens, just head on a swivel.

Don't live near any protest areas so my perspective is this whole fear mongering thing is just a ploy. 99% of the country is tranquil. Don't buy ammo or guns during a run on guns or ammo. It only adds to the turmoil. My little LCP will suffice.

Not yet, not in 40y on & off carrying. I do have my red line & raw fear is not it, menacing action by another is not it.

Default More than once..

...but this time stands out in my memory.

Was in a beerroom on a Saturday, Funday with some friends....mostly young ladies...watching college football. Recall it was either Thanksgiving weekend or on winter college break as the joint was not crowded, and the usual staffing was not in place.

Couple knuckleheads came it trying their very best to provoke a fight with someone. I ignored them. After some time the female beertender told them to leave. They started to leave but on their way out kicked a hole in the inner entrance door. At that point I suggested they leave without further incident.

One of them immediately told the other to ‘go get the gun.’ Didn’t have to go to the car to get mine and had them proned out on the sidewalk ‘til the local cops soon arrived.

Note: Was a LEO, not primary jurisdiction. They were charged with terroristic threats. Car was tossed; no gun found.

Be safe...be well.

I really haven't changed my usual carry due to the civil unrest as I live far enough away from any trouble areas and have no reason to go into the bigger cities. My usual EDC in a SA Micro 45 1911 (7+1) and 2 spare mags on my person always. Occasionally a SA EMP 9mm 1911 (9+1) with 2 spare mags. If I'm traveling longer distances out of town, I usually up-arm to my M&P 9 Compact (15+1) with 2-17 rd spare mags. Also for longer trips I have a CZ Micro Scorpion 9mm braced pistol (covered by my CCW permit), 20rd mag inserted but chamber empty, backed up by 6-35rd mags in a diversion first aid kit readily available in the car.
I admit that what concerns me more lately is the lack of civility among everyday people going about routine chores like grocery shopping, getting gas, banking etc. I'm not sure whether it's the stress of the Covid restrictions, financial issues, people off their meds due to financial issues. Whatever the causes, the confrontations can happen anywhere and may not escalate to the point of needing deadly force to break contact so I just recently added a couple small canisters of streaming pepper spray. One of them will now accompany me whenever I travel, along with everything else that I normally carry.
I thought when I retired I had given up having to wear a "bat belt" but times are a changing.

Holy cow, that's a lot of fire power. Makes me rethink my LCP pocket pistol.

I used to carry either a Glock 26 or a Taurus 85 revolver, depending whether I wanted to belt carry or pocket carry. I bought the Glock 26 way back when it was the smallest Glock, and while a fine weapon, it was a bit too thick for EDC. I never bought a Glock 43 because it was only 2 more rounds than the revolver. Then the Glock 43x came out with 10+1, and it fit my hand better, so bought it. That was all pre riots.

But, with all the unrest, yeah, I wanted more capacity and found out about the Shield Arms S15 mags, and bought one along with the upgraded metal mag release. 15+1 out of that little pistol is HARD to beat! I added a set of Ameriglo night sights, and upped my holster game to Alien Gear(IWB and OWB). Shield Arms just came out with a 20 round mag!!! and I'll be getting one to keep in the truck. With the social unrest crowds, GOOD hollowpoints are an absolute must; I like 124gr+p Speer Gold Dots. I also upped my EDC knife game to a Spyderco PM2 with a deep carry clip.

And following the whole St.Louis/McClosky thing, I DID take the field barrel off my trusty Remington 870, put the 18.5" barrel on, took the gun off my gun rack on the basement wall and put it in my bedroom closet with a buttstock shell carrier with 5rds of buckshot. While we have 2 ARs and an AK in the house with 1000s of rounds and tons of mags, shotguns rule in that scenario IMO
