Nothing has changed. My EDCs are still a 5 round M649 or an 8 round Walther CCP. I carry the Walther when I think I'll be somewhere that might be an attractive target for a certain type of person out to make himself famous. We call them Tangos in some circles, anarchists in others. Usually Tangos - the violent anarchy thing is a new, popular phenomenon this year. It will pass. Terrorism won't ever go away.
The thing is that it's not just my daily carry that matters. I keep loaded firearms available everywhere at home (living alone makes this easy) but recent events have caused me to load additional firearms/magazines to make me totally ready AT HOME. And I live in a nice, quiet neighborhood but the current spate of moronic protesting and looting was headed this way once and I was not going to stand for it if it spilled over into the neighborhood. Happily, it did not.
PS:
An AR 15 pistol is coming for the latter reason.....

I won't change my CC, I'll just avoid the crowds. But, in the event the crowds come to me, I'd love to upgrade my HD to a Mk19.

I was a DC cop & went through the ‘68 riots, then the Nixon inauguration Hippie protests, so had my fill of that nonsense. I’ve been carrying my LCP for awhile but recently switched back to my no-lock 340PD if that makes any sense. My reason for carrying is to simply cause a break in contact w/a bad guy so capacity is not a real concern. I’m just more comfortable w/a revolver, based on my street experiences, in this limited role. My daily travels, especially now, are limited to necessary chores so no reason to think I’ll come into contact w/another riot. Hip & back problems keep me limited to a very light pocket gun anyway.

I have changed my carry habit completely. I am just NOT Carrying at all and stay away from any and all protests. Someone glimpses a gun on me, I am likely to get shot by an undercover detective or a cop that thinks I am one of the protesters.
Anyone have a count on how many people have been shot in or around the protests, not shot by police?
If my apartment building gets burned down, I have plenty of insurance to cover it and I don't have a business to loot.

Glock 19 and Kahr P9 to the Rescue.
Yes it can happen but I'll try my hardest to avoid any situation in which I may need to shoot more people than the amount of ammunition in my gun. I don't want to be in the headlines. In NYS, arson of an occupied dwelling is justification to use deadly force. No doubt, police ignored many situations where they may have been justified in shooting an individual about to throw a gasoline bomb (Molotov Cocktail.)
If you're old enough, you'll know exactly what sudden headline on the part of police is likely to provoke a riot and looting. Upon learning of such an event, it is best to get off the streets as quickly as possible. If magazines full of ammo need to be fired at rioters, let the police do it.

I don’t live anywhere near where rioting is at all likely, and it’s usually pretty easy to avoid them when out and about if you’re paying the least bit of attention, so it’s not a great concern for me.
Nonetheless, it’s a pretty hostile political climate out there anywhere and the idea of carrying a second snub is becoming more appealing to me. Not so much for the extra capacity, but to give myself more options and access in a potential precarious situation. I don’t see being in any kind of inescapable shootout as being at all likely, but getting jumped by multiple people who decide for whatever reason that I’m their enemy and need to be stomped out doesn’t seem all that far fetched these days.

Personally, still carry my 9mm 642-1. I might add a third moon clip, but don’t see the issues coming this far north.

Mine is in my truck. Been in there since we started with the uptick of shootings at Walmarts. Unless the shooting starts as I’m getting out of it or somewhat nearby, I’m responding with the revolver. Even less of a chance of me tossing on my body armor... but at least the option is there.

I’m having trouble understanding why you think a cop, undercover or otherwise, would randomly shoot if they saw you carrying a gun.

Someone mentioned the 3500 lb car earlier. I learned how to do a bunch of interesting things with vehicles back when, but that was before air bags and fuel pump cutoff switches. Also before our vehicles got put on diets. Added edit: forgot the automatic braking systems.
If you've got thoughts/fantasies of using a current auto in ways other than basic transportation, you need to do some research and possible reconsideration of how you're going to do it. Having the engine shut down and the air bags deploy in the midst of your "escape" is counter productive.

Keith-I have a Sig PM400 Scorpion in .300Blk. Suppressed I love it. I have a Sig MPX short barrel rifle in 9mm suppressed. Both are a blast to shoot and with red-dot sights are deadly accurate. Grab one and have some fun.

Interesting observations, especially that the PoPo might have cause to shoot someone with concealed weapon. As I puzzled on that, the Philando Castile case came to mind. That was where an ill-trained cop shot a legal CCW. A young African American CCW. In a Minneapolis suburb. On a Facebook Livestream.
Also noted the New York State connection, which itself is a result of 100+ years of the racially-inspired Sullivan Act.
I note this because there has been quite admirable restraint from US law enforcement vis a vis various armed protesters. My Area of Operations encompasses a dozen states, including Minneapolis, and I have interacted with numerous departments during the riots. The overall professionalism and restraint shown has been something I know that I could not personally muster. Literally armed protestors were present at hundreds of events with almost zero negative impact.
Certainly there was some limited cases of trouble, such as the assaults in Albuquerque. However, the best example of LE restraint was the Las Vegas goofballs in plate carriers who planned to attack a peaceful protest. FBI SWAT knew they were planning an attack, but reportedly waited until they prepped their six pack of Molotov Cocktails in the parking lot to swoop in. My firearm selection hasn't changed. A few people on here mentioned trading a Shield for a P365, but that never crossed my mind. In fact, as I've stated before, I bought a Shield and an M&P Subcompact this year in lieu of buying a P365 or Hellcat. I prefer the slightly larger, heavier & thinner Shield because I like a longer grip forward & aft and a little more weight, and a Subcompact that is thicker & heavier yet because—in my hands—they shoot better and now I have two guns that can fill that role that provides some redundancy though they are different enough from one another to have their own attributes worth carrying together or separately (I arm to how I am dressed and not the other way around). I bought these two pistols right before the quarantine so, again, it had nothing to do with riots per se. I don't think carrying one gun with a few more rounds, or even two, is going to do much when we're talking about riots. Walking around with an AR-15 or a shotgun might do slightly more (though that invites other problems), so I think the important thing is that everyone is armed with whatever so that collectively good people can intervene whether that is on the side for law enforcement, on a side against law enforcement, and/or on a side for or against fellow civilians. Having more than one gun isn't a bad idea if that means the ability to arm someone else who isn't willing or able to carry, especially if more people are doing it (which means we can arm more unarmed allies), but I also think these riots are largely orchestrated and thus something to keep in mind. That doesn't mean the threat isn't real, but there is a lot more we can and should be doing to be proactive and try to head off these issues in my opinion. That said, one of the benefits of a Subcompact M&P is that I can pop in a 17-round magazine. If I was carrying a P365 in it's 12+1 configuration, I might opt instead for a Glock 48 with one of those aftermarket 15+1 magazines instead. Better yet, I would just rather carry a full-size M&P9, G19 or G45, or a PX4 Storm Compact because they will all shoot faster and more accurately than a P365 or Shield, but like I said, I'm not sure that's going to do much. If anything, I would probably rather have two smaller guns than one larger gun in the event someone stripped me of my gun or it malfunctioned.

Nothing that's happened has tempted me to change my hardware. What I carry will be sufficient, if it isn't a few more rounds won't make a difference.
Before anyone decides they need to carry a long gun in their vehicle, the chances of you actually needing it are microscopic compared to the chances of it being stolen. Most here are older. Apparently you've forgotten, or were asleep, during the 70s. Same old same. Don't compound panic with bad decisions that only assist in arming criminals.

One of the great things about living in this time is the selection of firearms available. Again, a reliable, high capacity semi-automatic in a fairly small package. I agree that avoiding danger is one of the best options but sometimes hot spots can't be avoided and trouble comes looking for you. I don't think I have too much to worry about in my every day environment. When I travel, that's a different story. Even Sioux Falls SD experienced some rioting and it is what I consider a small town. These riots had nothing to do with police brutality. They were all about animals wanting to go wild and they know they can get away with it in a crowd. Arrests were made here and I am hopeful that there will be more to come.

I mounted a holster to my trike, it holds my governor and a small bag contains 4 extra moon clips. Just in case I roll into a problem and can't get away.

Same here. When not working and just going about my business out here in Amish country I carry my 340 or Model 12. However when I’m working, or forced to go near Philly, I have been carrying the Glock 32 to back up my revolver. I also figured the noise and pyrotechnics of the .357 Sig should discourage any crowds, although hitting the gas is still my first choice. It’s a sign of just how messed up our world has become that I’m carrying a Glock. I think it may be a sign of the apocalypse.

None of the out of hand incidents around here, (so far), no reason to rethink my carry choice, (Shield 45). Retired, so there's no need to go anywhere trouble might start. That said, if the S ever does hit the fan, I'm dialing AR-15.

Not really. I still carry my S&W M&P .40 +2 spare mags, but I have gone to keeping my Glock 19X +2 spare mags in a secure box in my vehicle as well. I am no where near any of the real non-sense, but that doesn't mean someone's wheels aren't turning here. SEMPER GUMBY!

I'm far enough from Phoenix to be easily able to avoid the trouble areas. I still carry pretty much what I carried before. Usually, that's a G43 or a Shield with an extra magazine, or a J-frame with extra speed strips or speed loaders. On occasion, if going to an area that might be prone to greater risk, I'll carry a G19 or G26 with extra magazines. As others have said, it is always best to avoid known problems, if possible.

Didn't mean to make it sound like I would be shot by the police just because they saw a gun on me, but during a riot, they have enough to make them jumpy, so why add to that and possibly get mistaken for a threat.

The only thing I have changed is I loaded a shotgun and put it in the top of the closet. I still carry a revolver.

No change here. I live in a small coastal Oregon town and except for the virus precautions not much has changed. Sometimes it's a hassle living in a small community other times it's a relief.

Yeah, it's changed a few things for me, but I seem to be going against the current.
I'm no longer occasionally dabbling in semi-autos. I'm back to magnum revolvers (usually an S&W 65, 28, or 629). If civil unrest causes me to have to defend myself, I want the most reliability I can get. While I don't rely on the concept of stopping power, I'm sticking with calibers that give me a better chance at resolving the issue with the least number of shots fired.
I'm also keeping a long gun handy. For reasons stated above, the long guns I keep accessible are 12 gauge shotguns.
Another plus for magnum revolvers is that, as a handloader, I can always find cast lead bullets for lots and lots of practice. Finding plated or jacketed bullets for polygonal semi-auto barrels is getting more difficult every day right now.
But, more than anything above, I pay very close attention to the news now, trying to anticipate what problems are brewing near me, so I can avoid those problems entirely.

I live 30 miles from downtown St Louis. I ride bicycles and love the Katy Trail, but I haven't been over there this spring. I've been staying in Illinois. Seems like unrest can break out anywhere so I just stay on my side of the river.

Anything
Jeff Quinn on Gunblast said it best. He was reviewing the latest compact .22 automatic, and offered this on a .22's effectiveness on assailants.
"If you go to pokin' holes in 'em, they'll generally leave you alone."
How can you argue with that? Carry whatever you have that makes you happy.

My EDC LC9 recently broke. It fired when it was a little less than 1/16" out of battery and the case head separation sent the ejector into orbit, as well as bending the loaded chamber indicator. I haven't got it fixed - or even contacted Ruger about it yet.
Anyway, I started carrying a little pocket 380 for a week or so. Then all the riots & etc started. I still pocket carry the 380 around the house.
Even though I'm in a relatively conservative medium sized town, I decided for spending time out in public I needed to step up my CCW game.
So I switched to my PT145 for EDC. 10 rounds in the mag, 1 in the pipe and a spare 10 round mag in my off side pocket. All 21 rounds are 230gr HP ammo.
It is a little heavy and a bit bulkier than the LC9, but still manageable. And the PT145 has always been dead on 100% reliable without ever a single hiccup.

I still carry my Model 438 concealed but did add a car gun in my center console. Originally my car gun was a three inch Model 10 but after the first time I forgot about it leaving it in the car for two days. I replaced it with a beater Charter Arms 38. I fear having it stolen if left out over night. About three years ago forgetting to lock up my SUV somebody got in, emptied the contents of the console and glove compartment on the floor board. The only thing missing was at best a buck or two in loose change and cell phone charger. My CA 38 is paperless to me and if I forget it and it’s stolen I’m not out big bucks. I’d be heart broken losing any S&W revolver to a thief. If for some reason I had to travel near possible trouble. I’d likely open carry my SARS 45 with 15 rd mag and a spare or my Beretta PX 40 concealed.

I noticed two posts from Phoenix residents basically saying no big trouble here. Last Friday afternoon I was stuck on I-17 southbound. Both the exit and on ramps on Thomas rd were blocked. Southbound I-17 was like a parking lot but northbound moving but slowly. I couldn’t see what was happening just a lot of flashing red lights. Possibly it was coincidental there were wrecks on both ramps. I looked for something on the local news, nothing. The following Monday I called a city councilman’s Office to find out what happened. Got a call back on Tuesday telling me they were unaware of anything.

So no, I haven't stepped up to carrying semiautos- yet. I do have a Rami and a Springfield Hellcat. The Rami seems completely reliable will ball ammo but I need to try it with HP's. I haven't gotten around to reliability testing the Hellcat.

I would think the penetration of the 29 with 250 grn hard cast would take the place of a number of magazines of 9 m/m.
Multiple targets with one shot and all. Just sayin’.

Nothing much is going to save you until authorities get this mess under control. MG 42s are hard to find.

Looking at the video and pictures of "protesters" with semi-auto (?) long guns.......... the odds are stacked against anyone armed with only a handgun if the SHTF and moves toward -UBAR
Sitting in the front seat with your 2" model 60..... while taking 5.56 or 7.632x39 rounds through the windshield
Think the final scene from "Bonny and Clide"....... redux

I mostly agree with this. A handgun is for when you don't think you are going to need a gun.
If we are talking about societal collapse, the breakdown of the rule of law, mob justice, ...
That sounds like long gun time to me.

If a gun isn't convenient, I'm not going to carry it. I carry a J frame in my front pocket because it can go anywhere and it's unobtrusive.
I've thought about getting a Ruger LCP because they are small, and everyone says they're ultra reliable. Then I could get about ten extra magazines and put them in some kind of man purse.
The 380 has worked for European police forces and its worked in the military. I'm thinking a small semi-auto and about 60 rounds of ammo would be good to have if I ever got stranded in the midst of social unrest. And the Ruger would be a good 24/7/365 gun. I wouldn't carry the extra mags day-to-day. Only when the situation warranted. They would probably live in my car.
