No, everyone doesn't have first. You haven't had your first yet but here you are pontificating on what she should have done.

And that's kind of my point. Unless I completely misunderstand you have never once defended yourself with a gun. You've never been in a real fight. You've never used your gun any place else but on the range.

Yet you keep coming back here talking about gun fighting and self-defense like you're an expert and a seasoned veteran but have ZERO actual experience. You may be an expert at using a gun. You might be a great shot. You might have wonderful split times but you don't know anyting about actually defending yourself and it's a little annoying when you act like you do.

I'm not disagreeing with you, just expanding on your thought about what makes an expert...

I've seen LEO's published that were on big city SWAT/Warrant teams that have been in a dozen or more shootouts. Expert - check. I've met some special ops guys that were running 4 or 5 urban room clearings a day in Iraq or Afghanistan. Expert - check.

But I see people labeled as "self-defense experts" because they were successful in a single self-defense shooting. Does one event really make you an expert or just lucky? Two? Three? Remember the two ladies in the liquor store that defended themselves with a pistol under the counter. Are they experts?

If you've been in more than one gun fight does that make you lucky or unlucky?

I do not want to make this post be about another member so I'm going to say that it's the attitude I take issue with and not the credentials/ skill level and let it go at that.

If you read The Armed Citizen column in The American Rifleman the vast majority of incidents they report on are some old man who hasn't fired a gun since Vietnam and gets a .38 from the sock drawer and starts sorting things out.

I don't know what makes an expert. I don't even think "expert" is even the right word. I think the right word is "Veteran" (not strictly in the military sense). You've either seen the elephant or you haven't and if you haven't you shouldn't presume to describe it to people who have.

Even though I survived three on duty shootings I’m by no means an expert, and in one instance I was just plain lucky.

I believe the Officer did a great job, including what shows in the frame by frame analysis. The malfunction drill was spot on, done by instinct when she perceived a malfunction.
On another subject, someone on this forum should be careful: his NRA Cert. Inst. IDPA CSO arrogance is showing.
