It is interesting how the media spins what happened.

The New York Times says the car aggressively drove up to the protesters and when the "victim" walked up to the car, the driver shot and killed him.

Garrett Foster Brought His Gun to Austin Protests. Then He Was Shot Dead. - The New York Times

What ACTUALLY appears to have happened is that Foster (the protester who was walking around with an AK47) stuck the gun in the driver's face when other protesters were banging on the car and the driver shot him dead. Driver was a concealed carry license holder.

As a former LEO, I often wondered what planet the reporters were reporting from when I read about an incident that I was involved in when I read about it the next day in the paper.

It is sad that the MSM has adopted such an anti-American policy when reporting the news. At the moment, they are siding with anarchist Marxists that wish to destroy America and strip law-abiding citizens of their rights. Their current stance amplifies their ignorance of history, they are helping to usher in their own demise. Sadly, they don't see the parallel between their actions of today when compared to the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917!

With the media, I'm not sure whether it's malicious or laziness. I did a couple of award presentations for heroic or special acts by civilians at horrific crash scenes. I took the time to type up 2 fact sheets for distribution to attending news media at each presentation. One detailed report of the events and one with bullet pointed highlights. Upon seeing the news coverage later on, it was very evident that NONE of the reporters bother to read EITHER of the facts sheets. Pure laziness and obviously didn't even bother to pay attention at the presentations when a synopsis of the events was given.

Sounds like he died of natural causes to me.....if you point your assault rifle at a Texan, he is naturally going to shoot you dead.

The media isn't on our side, they want a certain outcome and will twist and distort the story to fit THEIR NARRATIVE. Everything else is just noise.

It'll all come out in the wash, I'm sure. Just curious if you have a source for this bit of info?

Actually on one of the local Austin stations, they showed the chief mentioning that he had seen video showing that the AK was pointed at the driver.

This is Media’s mission, they are the Misinformation wing of Marxist Orgs.
The individual personalities on the fake news networks are being paid by Liberal Organizations to twist, spin and lie. These people only got their stardom through attacking Trump. The problem is all the Social Media, internet , TV networks , Movies, Hollywood and entertainment are controlled by the Left. The little that is on radio and Fox is allowed to exist for appearances. Make no mistake they control it. They want to get rid of certain people that will be replaced with pansies.

You aren’t going to hear any high fives for citizens who protect themselves out of these people. They are afraid it would turn into a national movement.

Default A Bad Trouble

I am a Texas resident and CHL holder. I don't know what happened here. It is a mob scene and everybody is screaming. In all the years I've lived in Texas I've only seen a couple of instances of open carry, but I live in an urban area. If you feel passionate enough about an issue to participate and openly carry an AK-47, you should know and assume the risks. If you drive your car towards a street demonstration, you also know the risks. Don't any of these folks have jobs or families to raise? This is not a "good trouble", at least for me. Nobody's cause was advanced. A songwriter once put it best for me, "When everyone's talkin' and nobody's listenin', how can we decide?"

And this is exactly why I refuse to watch the "news" on TV. I see the distortion and downright lies and all that happens is my BP goes up 20 points.

This is why you should just stay the heck out of places where protests are taking place.

Unfortunately, it's just the smartest thing to do right now because if you end up in a Self-Defense shooting, you will be painted as a villain by the slanted liberal media, then even if you do manage to stay out of prison and aren't financially ruined by it, your reputation will be hurt because every mouth-breathing, bleeding-heart who believes everything they hear on the news will call you a murderer.

So yeah, just stay the heck out of protest zones, okay? Even if you work there, call in sick, take a leave of absence, or just plain quit. Because it just isn't worth the tremendous risk involved, you stand to lose much more by driving down Riot Row than you do than you do if you get fired.

Modern day Journalists are rarely well informed on anything. After all, thorough investigation and fact-checking take much too long and you've got to get that article out as fast as possible to sell copies, get the ratings, and trend on Social Media.

I know this for a fact because I once held aspirations of becoming a Journalist, only to completely lose interest once I learned that it's all one big racket, you rarely have any freedom, and you're essentially just exaggerating details or even outright fabricating information for a living.
Unfortunately, I was raised with these pesky things called morals by my Catholic parents, which in turn caused me to develop a conscience as well as ideals of honesty, integrity, and a desire to become a contributing member of society, ergo my approach towards Journalism was horribly misguided, driven by a desire to provide accurate, unbiased information which would in turn serve to educate the masses, so Journalism wouldn't have been a good career path for me.

It is for that very reason that I barely even follow the news anymore because it simply doesn't provide accurate information because everything is written in a huge hurry in the most dramatic fashion possible.

In an earlier street interview about whether he would need to use the AK, Foster basically said no. His antagonists were “pussies”. Whoops.

Austin Police identifies man killed in shooting during downtown protest Saturday | KXAN Austin

QUOTE

Manley noted that witnesses on the scene described to officers several different versions of the incident.

He summarized that witnesses told APD a vehicle began honking its horn as it turned south onto Congress Avenue from 4th Street. He said the vehicle stopped “as there were a large number of people in the roadway.”

Manley said that Foster, who was holding an AK47-type assault rifle, approached the driver side window of this car as others in the crowd began striking the car.

“Gunshots were fired from inside the vehicle at Mr. Foster,” Manley said. “During the initial investigation of this incident, it appears Mr. Foster may have pointed his rifle at the driver of this vehicle prior to being shot.”

People think they lie and sometimes they do but mostly it's what you said. Speed trumps accuracy. They have to sensationalize everything and make it sound as bad as possible. That's why the weather people invented wind chills and heat indexes. Regular temperatures weren't good enough. I once heard a so-called meteorologist in the USA (I forget which city) exclaim dramatically that it was colder there than it was in Antarctica. Of course they didn't mention, it was winter there and it was summer in Antarctica.

Interesting. As I said, the more investigation continues, the more the story will take final shape.

I agree with just avoiding areas like this as was mentioned above. You're just avoiding potential issues by doing so.

Given his statements, he does seem like he was looking for a fight.

Also noted is how the different versions of what happened from different people. This is very common. Perception is reality. Just a human thing. There is a reason I run a dash cam. Even I would get something wrong if I recounted what I believe I seen happen, then go and watch the video.

Looks like Ma Foster has a room for rent in her basement.

Plenty of stupid to go around. John Farnam has regularly pointed out that one should not go to stupid places or associate with stupid people. I'm not a strong follower of his, but he is utterly correct. Attending these "protests" (most of which are riots, and all of which are based on a knowingly fabricated narrative about the death of Mr. Floyd) is stupid in the extreme. Heck, I live 110 miles from downtown Seattle, and for at least 10 years I have not crossed the pass unless forced by employment obligations. It was stupid under less bad conditions, and inexcusable now. Be on a surface street and exposed to the crud going on now? Hell no.

One should also not be driving toward them. Too often, arriving in that area is indicative of a complete lack of situational awareness and forethought. However, if one is a stranger to an area and ends up turning down a street that presents such an issue, the correct answer is to reverse/turn around and get out the area with all of the alacrity of which one is capable. As much as I think every one of these anal pores who blocks the street should be arrested, that is not going to happen, and driving toward them is just dumb. It creates the impression in the mind of a reasonable person (none of whom were present as far as I can tell) that the car is being used as a weapon.

The little Antifa thug in question said that the opposition were "wussies" (in slightly more vulgar terms) who "wouldn't do anything".
Guess he threatened the wrong "wussie" and found out different, huh?

Apparently the driver was quicker on the trigger than the thug.

All’s well that ends well.

Let’s wait and see how this plays out in court. This is another thread that has the board divided and we won’t solve a thing.

Done...
