Default MOST RELIABLE PISTOL EVER

This question is a slightly different approach to a topic that has been absolutely beaten to death. So my question is this. Using the following criteria, what is absolutely the most reliable semi-auto pistol (just one gun) you have ever owned;

ANY brand, any size, any caliber, any ammo, any time period, and a minimum of 1000 rounds.

My only pistol (out of a couple dozen over the years) that meets that criteria is my "T" series Hi-Power.

A combat course instructor in Oregon carries two G19's at all times, says only cleans them every few thousand rounds, over 50,000 through both, all stock. Asked him about barrel wear.."well, seem to still be hitting center mass on the course just fine."

I would have to say a CZ shadow 2, followed real close with a CZ75b. The Canik/Tristar CZ clones are right up there too.

My Beretta 92FS. About 5k rounds through it, no malfunctions whether shooting premium JHP or bargain basement commercial reloads. *knocks on wood*

All of my S&W's have been reliable if just one a 9mm M&P Shield bought 2014. I'm sure it has way over 1000 rds with original RSA and striker

Tie between G19 and a Beretta 1934.

Worst is a near-tie between a Beretta 948 and a Jennings J22.

I would like to contribute to this thread, but unfortunately I've never shot upwards of 1000 rounds of Self-Defense ammunition through any of my firearms, and I doubt that I ever will.
Heck, even if I had the kind of money to buy 1000+ rounds of carry ammo and shoot it all at the range, I can't say that I would, because frankly I'd rather stock up on it and shoot less expensive FMJ.

I only shoot Self-Defense loads under two conditions, to test it out and see if it runs reliably in my carry gun, or otherwise after the ammo I have loaded in my carry gun has been in there for upwards of a year. Unfortunately, I don't really keep track of how many rounds I've shot either since it's generally an infrequent thing with just a couple magazines full of ammo.

Nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong at all.

Ruger standard model from about 1970. Exactly 42 bazillion rounds. The only failures I can think of are cheap ammo that fails to ignite, not gun related.

Browning Hi Power I bought new in the mid 1970's. Thousands and thousands of rounds over the years without a single failure, when shooting factory ammo. I did have failures with my reloads back in the 70's because I didn't get the tapered crimp right. Can't blame that on the gun.

I'll take your criteria one step further. At least one model from every brand of firearm I own has experienced a failure to fire under normal operation, except one brand. Knock wood!! So far, all my 3 of my CZ pistols, a 75B an 2 PCR's, have never had any type of failure.
The CZs all have more than a thousand rounds through them, and the PCR's are EDC'ed by hubby and myself. They are shot by all guests we bring to the range. The 75B is the favorite plinker of every new shooter I introduce to the hobby, it is also my first CZ and has been used more than all my other handguns.

I guess that makes my polished stainless 75B the winner.

My granddaughter loved the 75B.

Heres a true story(kinda long). A guy my brother and I grew up with is currently a full bird Colonel in the US Army. Valedictorian in high school, went to West Point, multiple combat deployments. He's 45 now, will retire a general. One of tge best, most straight laced no BS guys you could imagine.

Back when he was a Captain, in Iraq, he was over a group training Iraqi police/soldiers, as part of the US getting out of there and letting Iraq protect themselves(way pre-ISIS). They had STACKS AND STACKS of new in box Glock 19s, sitting in a hot sandy tent with hundreds of thousands of rounds of NATO 9MM. He would go out shooting with the Iraqi recruits every day, mostly because his job was boring and it was something to do. He said he NEVER ONCE cleaned the gun and probably put 30-40k rounds thru it. He was "the boss," and he figured if his Glock started jamming, etc, he would throw it away and grab another one. He said he never had to. 30-40k rounds, shot in the desert, zero cleaning, not one issue. First thing he did when he got back states side was to go out and buy 2 for himself.

This is coming from the LAST person who would lie about something like that to me.

Love em or hate them, Glocks are the most reliable semi autos.

Have a pre-owned Glock 17...previous owner put an untold # of rounds through it without issue.
I've put lots of cheap stuff through it...zero failures.
If nothing else...the plastic guns do run well

Pretty much every semi-automatic I own meets these criteria. I have 7 CZs, 2 Glocks, 3 Rugers, a Springfield, a Beretta, and a Walther that have all been "completely reliable" (never a malfunction). Two of my Sigs are close behind, but I have had a couple minor malfunctions with them. Each gun has a minimum of 2000 rounds through it, with most having more...a couple have over 8000.

The only "unreliable" semi-automatic that I own is a S&W M&P Shield 380 EZ and it finally seems reliable now, but I still wouldn’t trust it in a self defense situation.

The most reliable pistol I have owned is my Colt 1991A-1. I got it brand new in March 1995 and have close to 10,000 rounds thru it. Mostly ball ammo, but probably around 1,000 JHP since I carried it on the job for a time. It has never jammed once in all that time. My new Colt Gunsite Pistol looks promising. Almost 1,000 assorted rounds thru it since March without a malfunction.

My little KelTec P-32 Gen 1 is also worth mentioning. Probably have around 1,000 assorted rounds thru it and it too has never jammed.

I bought a Glock 17 that was a buy back from Washington DC police department,,
The gun was carried so much, the black finish on the slide is worn smooth,,

I would bet that gun could tell some stories, if it could,,
It is the only Glock I have ever shot over 50 rounds through,, and I have shot it a LOT,,
The Glock is 100% flawless in performance, never a hickup, of any kind.

I did buy a new Glock 17, about a decade ago,, it shoots great, but, it just does not have the personality of my DC engraved buy back!!

The majority of the pistols I own meet that criteria, but a few haven't (or won't) meet the 1k mark.
A couple of Glock 19s
My carry SIG 365
A S&W 3914
9mm Colt Competion
.45 Colt 1991A1

Just to name a few.

Ed Brown Kobra Carry. 9,284 rounds and not a single malfunction. Yes, the extractor broke, but the gun kept working.

Tanfoglio Witness .45/.38 Super/.22LR. After 1,000s each of .45 and .22 without a malfunction of any kind I recently bought a new .38 Super mag and had my first FTF on the 4th round. The mag shipped with the follower in backwards and I didn't notice when loading it. I'll share the foul with Mec-Gar on that one.

John said just one gun. Sure, I, like others, could list a few, but Oldster said just one. Using that criteria, I'm going to have go with my Ruger Mk II. No doubt about it. I don't know how many rounds I've shot through this little beauty, but it's w-a-a-a-y-y over a thousand, and never even a hiccup. Which reminds me...I probably ought to disassemble it and do a fairly thorough cleaning on the thing one of these days instead of just the standard cursory cleaning I do each time I shoot it.

3 pistols with zero malfunctions:

Sig 232

CZ SP01

CZ RAMI- even with the 11 y.o. shooting it.

My daughter's Glock 42 is a jam-o-matic with multiple brands of ammo. Our first, and last, Glock.

Default Reliable

My original Model 59, that replaced an equally reliable 39-2 (just wanted more magazine capacity).

Replaced with a boringly reliable Glock 19 when the powers that be in my PD dictated we had to switch in 1992.

I thought higher of this forum.

HK P7M8 or PSP.

I say this because it is gas operated and relies less on the shooter.

Ultimately, semi autos rely on the shooter to provide a platform to allow resistance to the frame such that the slide can function and reciprocate.

The P7 relies on the shooter less than any other semi-auto I'm aware of.

We live in a golden age of manufacturing. I'd bet that a shooter under no pressure, standing still, shooting stationary targets could get through 1000 rounds with a HK USP, Glock 19, and SIG 220 in sequence with boring reliability if the guns were all in spec and lubricated.

With that said, I've shot a little more than the average bear and a lot less than others, but in competition and training I've seen just about every automatic malfunction at some point, for some reason. With the options available today, I'd say the shooter skill and experience level is by far a greater factor in reliability than the equipment itself within the realm of the higher end offerings.

The only pistol class I've ever taken where I didn't observe a single malfunction from any shooter was a revolver class at Thunder Ranch... but I digress.

My Colt 1911's - don't remember ever having a jam, FTF or hiccup and have owned most of them for over 40 years.

Colt 1911 made in 1920. Hundred years old and still runs like a fine watch.

With a minimum of 1000 rounds without glitch.

This one. But I only used "ball" ammo in it.

MOST RELIABLE PISTOL EVER-img_3123-jpg

I have not fired 1000 rounds in this one, but it never failed either. I have used others that were not mine, they also never failed.

MOST RELIABLE PISTOL EVER-p-38-2-jpg

And finally. With a stupidly high round count. Both in .22 and .32 wadcutter.

It never failed. But it's not a gun you would carry.

Stock Glock. All that's needed is ammo. My favorite model is the 30 subcompact 45acp. 10 rounds of 45acp on target as fast as you can pull the trigger. Every time. 24/7. Perfection. Ugly is as ugly does.

My 1988 Beretta 92 Compact (and Elite II.)....... one a carry gun that I used in both USPSA and IDPA. Both were considered practice not sports...... to the point of carry concealed and often IWB at club USPSA matches.

I don’t know my exact round counts but I know I have three that have never failed:

1. Glock 19 - Gen 4
2. Springfield XDm 3.8 - .40
3. Beretta 92A1

My most reliable is a Glock 19, but only because I’ve put the most rounds through it. I don’t keep a hard count, but around 10,000. Seems like most of the double stack Glocks are just getting broken in at 10K.

Using 1,000 rounds as a crossover between reliable and unreliable seems too low. I think you could take any compaact or service size of the main brand semi-auto’s - S&W, Beretta, Glock, Sig, Ruger - lubricate them and get 1,000 rounds through them.

There you have it. The majority votes Glock as the most reliable pistol ever.

So guess what pistol brand is entirely banned for sale (by dealers to licensed individuals) in my loony moonbat state.

Then go ahead and guess what banned pistol brand is used by more cops in my loony moonbat state than any other.

Moonbat state logic on full display.

Some states/commonwealths want their cops to have an advantage!!!!
