I know it's relatively easy here because I am assisting a guy in a NICS denial and the FBI suggested having his "rolled" fingerprints was useful so he got them done for me in a day or two. For an LTC you have to have electronic fingerprints, not rolled, and the state has a contract with one company but their facilities are not difficult to find. There is a private detective/security company 15 minutes from my house that does it, very centrally located, and I am sure there quite a few other locations as well.

I don't know about Florida, but here's my experience from 2014 about getting fingerprinted for my license to carry in Texas: Texas had contracted with a commercial fingerprint-taking outfit that had numerous offices all over the state. They took my prints electronically and transmitted them to the Department of Public Safety to confirm that I was license-eligible. I submitted all my documentation, and waited for my license. What I got was a letter stating that my prints were unreadable, and that I would have to resubmit them. I went to another office to get the second set of prints, figuring that they might have a better machine. (Our small city had two offices -- very convenient.) A week or so later, I called the licensing office in Austin to inquire about my prints. The very pleasant young woman who answered the phone said, "I'm sorry, but your second set of fingerprints was also unreadable." My heart sank. Apparently I have no fingerprints, so how will I ever get a license? Before I could say anything, she continued, "Your license is in the mail." Three days later, I had it in my wallet, and went out for my "Wally Walk".

The bottom line in Texas is that you have to submit fingerprints, but DPS doesn't really need them to determine if you're eligible.
I believe Texas has a "We don't need no stinkin' prints" policy because Texas WANTS you to carry!

Once you have your certificate of course completion, make a copy of the certificate and your local Motor Vehicle office will complete your process. They will take your fingerprints and complete the application along with the background check and you will have your CWP if they are not busy. Check with your local DMV for place and location.

Having people drive to the State Capital to get fingerprinted in a State the size of Florida is totally unreasonable. That can’t be right... Michigan automatically extended licenses and registrations when the offices were closed due to COVID. Maybe Florida did something similar.

We previously had 83 County gun boards and they all did things a bit differently. Those were eliminated and now the County Clerks handles the CPL’s and the State Police handle the background checks. Not only does it save money and eliminate layer of bureaucracy, it give the people a voice since the County Clerks are elected officials.

Our permits are good for 5 years and the municipal Police or County Sheriff handles the fingerprinting. New prints had to be taken at each renewal back when they were done with paper and ink. Our county started scanning fingerprints at least 8 years and keeps the files, so we’re good to go once the prints are in the system. I did my last renewal online without ever having to leave the house. It took about 15 minutes and I received the new permit in 10 days!

There is a problem that popped up recently. Since Michigan legalized recreational pot, the BATF no longer waives the NICS check for CPL holders. It seems the State doesn’t vet dope smokers well enough to satisfy the Feds when issuing CPL’s. I can count the number of guns I’ve purchased from an FFL on both hands, so it’s not really a big deal for me. Still, it was comforting to know that if I decided to buy a gun form a licensed dealer, there was no possibility of a delay.

Totally incorrect

While the regional offices of the Department of Agriculture may be closed, as mentioned, the DMV (usually your authorized Florida tax collector's office) has fingerprint scanners. They will even take your picture.

Also, as has always been legal, your local Law Enfocement Agency can still roll the prints on a fingerprint card. You must order the correct card from the State. It can not be the generic card tha Florida uses. I used to roll the prints after each class, at least until I left the Patrol

In my County, appointments (which are required here) can be made on-line at the Count Tax Collector's website.

Each of the 67 Counties is a little different so read their website

Only the initial application must be done in person. You can do the renewal online at the State's website:

When I was in FL the Department of Agriculture did the fingerprints and approval. Was very easy.

Can't really help with advice since I got my CCW back when it was ink only and Charles Bronson was the Commissioner. Hell, my current one is before Nikki "Marijuana Yes, CCW No" Fried became Commissioner.



But last I check, the County Tax Collector's Offices can process CCW applications.

"Some" tax collectors offices can issue CWFLs, not all. Contact the Dept of A & CS regional office in WPB to make an appointment and get your info straight from the horse's mouth.

I would say call your local pd or sherrifs office & ask about finger prints.

So you have a ccw or do not? Even in kommifornia, they only make you finger print initially, renewalls are just an app & class.

I don't mean to pick on the original poster, but this post raises a question that has bugged me for years. Why in the world would anyone address what is a local legal question to a public forum that is literally international in scope? Sure, you might get a good answer -- but it's likely to be drowned out by answers from people who have little, no, or absolutely false information to offer, not to mention that you don't know who they are. In public forums, it could always be some malicious person with an agenda of his own.

This question, as is true with any other legal question, is best addressed to the people on your payroll -- the state and local authorities who enforce your state and local laws. I am certain beyond doubt that someone in your state Attorney General's office, State Police organization, or local Sheriff's Department can give you a proper answer, and that's where this sort of query should be directed.

This advice is meant to save you from potential trouble. At least if any complications should arise, you can truthfully state that you got your info from someone who SHOULD have known the right answer, and not just "I read it on an Internet forum."

No fingerprinting for CCW in Missouri. The Coronapocalypse has killed rolled prints in the Show-Me state, at least in the Bootheel. Got a suppressor waiting on prints since April . . .

Wisdom comes thru fear . . .

The best and fastest of all, do the entire application/photo/prints by making an appointment at any regional office of the Florida Division Licensing, or in many places at any county Tax Collector{if they have signed up for program). F.S.790.065(5). You must have an actual appointment if you go to the regional office of the Division of Licensing , and maybe the Tax Collector's.
