The Right To Carry!
I have a post in the "reloading" forum regarding my bush carry sidearm. It caused me to reflect on the United States, our nearest neighbour, vs. Canada, and rather than hijack my own post and go off on a tangent, I thought I'd post a few thoughts here. You guys have the constitutional protection provided by your 2nd. amendment. You are also under threat from your looney left but different states and jurisdictions have a flexibility in legislation that we don't. National firearms policy comes down from Ottawa and is the law of the land. I could write pages of idiotic decisions that would have you guys shaking your heads in disbelief. Our rights to self-defense have been steadily and stealthily eroded by a succession of Liberal governments. Even in a clear cut case of justifiable self defense, expect to be charged and prosecuted. The intent is to discourage "vigilantism" (?), so when you win, you're still on the hook for a massive legal bill. Over my 70 yrs. I've watched firearms and firearm owners demonized, marginalized, and unfairly vilified and I've watched our society and nation become less safe even as anti firearm legislation becomes more restrictive, illogical and unreasonable. I see the result of this looney left mindset in Australia and England. Draconian anti gun legislation has left those countries with spiking crime rates, so what does our Liberal government do? Implement the same stupidity here! We have firearms advocacy groups now taking the federal government to court and a massive push-back by average Canadians who see through the lies pushed by the government and a bought-and-paid-for media. We're pushing back and pushing back hard. God bless the NRA! If what I've read is true, and maybe some of you can correct me if I'm wrong, the safest states in the union for a U.S. citizen are the ones that accord the citizens the right to carry and a clear-cut "castle" doctrine. We were too complacent and didn't see the insidious erosion of our rights until too much damage was done. Take a lesson from us and educate everyone in your orbit as to the true facts regarding an armed responsible citizenry.

As an expat living in the US for twenty plus years I am thrilled to read what you said about fighting back. The parliamentary form of govt is ripe for the kinds of abuse you describe. I read the writing on the wall years ago and eventually escaped. I’m afraid it maybe too late for Canada because of liberal judges appointed in the past

I kinda wish you guys weren't such close neighbors - seems that whatever silliness you come up with today appears on our plates tomorrow...
Best of luck to you, and thanks for the compliments!

Good luck exmilcop!
We're going to need it, too - with the one saving grace presently being a nice, almost middle aged mother of 7, a lady with an exceptional brain named Amy Coney Barrett.
But it's going to get dicey here if the wrong team wins the election so stay tuned!
Moderators - if that's too political just delete it but I did keep it as generic as I could.

A lot of this is cultural warfare. I see far too many Canadian on gun forums (and in my family) that simply don’t get it. Most like Americans while at the same time think that any of us who elect to go armed are nuts.

And the reverse is true, to an extent. Whatever happens in the U.S. will have an impact up here. The Canada of my youth used to be one of the great bastions of freedom. Sadly, that's now a title that you guys alone can lay claim to, and that's under threat from the looney left.
