Default Sig P365 or Glock 26?

Like most folks, I am economics driven. Once my P229 and 629 3" are out of layaway, I have kinda come to the conclusion that I won't be buying many more handguns, but will take possession of any that I may "win" in competitions.

The exception is: I will be participating in an event at the Sig Academy in a few weeks, and if their support this year is anything like last year, participants can expect a very generous discount, that could make a P365 less expensive than a GSSF Blue Label pistol, so a purchase may be in order.

Yes, I know that this is the S&W forum, and S&W makes many fine pistols; however, I don't like the feel/heft of the ones I have recently handled. I am looking at a maximum capacity of ten rounds, since that is the most that my state currently allows it's citizens to possess in a handgun.

For a carry pistol, if you were limited to either a Sig P365 or a Glock 26, which would you select and why?

As always, thanks in advance for your opinion!

Sig p365. In fact I'm already looking for one that isn't ridiculously over priced to purchase.
I just don't like the feel of Glocks. They just don't fit my hand right. Too blocky. But I kinda have sausage fingers.

P365. Actually for me a P365 XL. I made the switch earlier this year.

Really nice pistol. Accurate. Easy to maintain. About the only are downside are Sig has a 2,500 round replacement interval for the recoil spring. Glock's is 5,000 rounds. And Sig mags run about twice the price of Glocks.

The grip is a little thin, so I put a Hogue beaver tail slip on grip on it. Even with the Hogue grip it's a smaller grip than a Glock.

The Sig. Traded my G19 for the 365 6 months ago, and very happy with the change.

Out of the box, the P365 has a far better trigger than the Glock. When I first got mine I tested it on my backyard range. Put one round in the mag, chambered it, shot at a 25 yard 6" steel plate and hit it. I carry it appendix all day long and hardly know it is there.

G26. It has nearly 20 years of a pretty good track record vs. 20 months of a questionable track record.

I own both Glocks and SIG. I know which company has made a recent habit of suing customers that get shot by the safety failures of their guns... Or ending support of their legacy platforms.
Or makes it nearly impossible to find spare magazines for less than $40/each.
Hint... It isn’t Glock.

I've been carrying a Glock 26 since 1995 so I may be a little prejudiced.

(Enough so, that I bought a second a few months ago to back it up.)

It's the one gun I'd keep if I had to give up the others.

If you can only have 10 rounds anyway, I think the comparison would be between the 365 and a blue label Glock 43X. My son carries the X and I the 365. Both are excellent. The G26 is much bulkier (imo).

X2...the 26 I carried was a brick compared to the 365 I now carry...and the 365 trigger and sights are expotentially better than the 26.

I have both, but the 26 just sits in the vault now. The 26 is a great gun, but for my needs I prefer the thinner 365.

I have a P365 and a Glock 33 (.357 Sig version of the G26)... I carry the P365 9 to 10 months of the year and the G33 in the cooler remaining months here in Florida. Love both guns, but the 365 is hard to beat for concealed carry...

Glock 26, hands down.

It's older, with a fantastic track record for reliability, and it's already more than small enough for EDCC.

The SIG P365 is more expensive, arguably less reliable, and in a size/form factor which lands in a middle ground between a Micro Pocket Pistol and a Subcompact.
It's great for those with smaller hands or prefer to wear tight-fitting pants who find the grip of the G26 too thick to comfortably fit in their hands/waistband, but aside from them, it really doesn't offer any tangible benefit over the G26.

Between the two options I'd choose the Glock. I own a Glock 26 and I carry it daily. I've never even considered a P365.

But if I was limited to 10 rounds anyway I'd really consider a Glock 48 or a 43X.

43X is great. Nice full grip like the Shield with 8 round mag, but 10. And Shield Arms has flush fit 15 round mags for 43x!!

More accurately, there is lots of litigation flying around the P320 pistols and uncommanded discharges. I am happy to state I am not party to any of the suits.

PistolForum has 22 pages of largely respectful analysis, based in large part on identifying four different variations of the P320 trigger componentry and the more recent July 2020 litigation. The company has taken the position of saying nothing, except through lawyers and offering a “voluntary upgrade program”. There are allegations of uncommanded discharges after the “upgrade” unfortunately.

Since the P365 shares some DNA with P320 and the rough early history of the 365, I would personally pass. Other folks may have a greater safety risk and malfunction tolerance than me. I am the first to admit the P365 feels great and has an impressive trigger.

The G26 has an impressive track record of reliability and durability but I would select the P365 for its superior ergonomics (in my hands anyway).

To answer your question directly, hands down - the 365. Even if you have to pay full retail, still the 365.

Facts matter. You’re making an accusation through innuendo. For all the P365’s that are out there, name one single case where a 365 has had the same drop fire issue as the P320’s have had.

The P365 had some early production issues the night sights and striker drag. New model Glocks have had their own set of issues.

Every Sig I've held has felt like it had a high bore axis, something I don't like.

G26 is a little thick, but sand it to fit my hand and it's great.

Really, they're close enough that it's going to fall into the personal preference range.

Had the 365 - great gun. Sold it to look for the XL version. Kinda hard to find these days at a reasonable price.

I like them both. Having carried a Glock of some form or fashion personally and professionally since about 1990, I prefer the Glock, because I am comfortable with the system. My 26 generally resides in my jump bag with several spare magazines. If I;m carrying a Glock concealed, it's my 43, although I agree that the 43X is a better comparison to/with the 365. A 365 is on the list, but quite frankly there are other guns I'd like to have first, and 365's are rare in these parts.

I don't think you can go wrong either way . . .

Having owned both, I vote for the 365. The 26 was too bulky for concealed carry for me and it was sold. The 365 is perfect for my needs.

I have XL hands, and with the addition of a Hogue grip sleeve the grip is just fine. I recently picked up an XL frame from Sig, about a 5 min conversion with a matching Hogue sleeve, and now carry it with 12 round mags, the grip is absolutely perfect. When travelling to CA to visit kids/grandkids, 5 mins to switch back to original config with 10 round mag. Digests every round regardless of type, target acquisition on draw and fire is faster with the 'X-Ray' sights than my previous Glocks white outline. Mine has a MS, so comfortable carrying it AWIB along with IWB and OWB.

Absolutely.
The P365 is not the P320. The P365 had numerous issues in the initial introduction as noted, but my understanding is the internals do differ somewhat (never compared side by side).

The P320 has a long history of uncommanded discharges in holsters, not just dropped guns. I was unaware of the reported extent until reading the July 2020 New Hampshire lawsuit, which details them starting on page 22 - 29 https://bloximages.newyork1.vip.town...63c886.pdf.pdf. SIG has done a comprehensive job of not acknowledging the risk or warning customers in my opinion.

Innuendo or not, I would not trust SIG to do the right thing if their is anything wrong with the P365. It is a really attractive platform, but if the choice is between a relatively debugged choice and something new from SIG, I suggest the G26 is a wiser choice.

I have owned three SIGs, but presently own a single hammer-fired 9mm. If you read the pages of various law enforcement uncommanded discharges of holstered P320s including the on-video Michigan case detailed in the complaint (page 12), I am not comfortable with SIG’s safe implementation of striker fired guns. YMMV.

Other than speculation about “stress” and other secondary issues at SIG Sauer, has anyone made significant, serious accusations that the claimed defects of the P320 design are also present in the P365? If so, that’s something I’ve missed.

I have larger hands and have ccw’d since 2002 so these newer “micro” carry guns don’t feel natural to me at all (though they are def easier to conceal). Given the choice I’d opt for a Glock 26 every time.

I have to say that they are VERY proud of the P365 these days.
The least expensive one I have found online right now would cost me $575 with taxes, and transfer - and it is used.

What I’ve read is exactly the opposite. After the inertia drop issues with the P320, Sig drop tested the P365 nineteen ways to Sunday from pretty much every possible angle to make sure it wasn’t a problem.

I am with Vlamet here. When they get too small it is hard to get comfortable at least for me with larger hands. I don't carry so no experience on my end for a serious comment other than to say I have a 43/42/17/27 (a 26 with a 40 barrel - have a 9 barrel for the 27). The advantage doe the 26, if you handle any Glock you've handled all of them. Very simple gun, super reliable won't let you down and the mags can interchange. If size is a problem with the subcompact 26, I would carry a 43. This being said, I also like the Springfield EMP, but not as familiar with the gun where I would risk my ash on it. The Glock all day long!

Well, the mags don’t interchange from a 43 to a 26/19/17 etc. so scratch that part

True.. However, you can put any variation of you 19 and 17 in a 26 including a 30 round mag..

I am of the same mind. The 26 has a long track record of reliability. My samples from varying generations are no different. I am issued a G45 and commonality of magazines between the 26/19/45 pre-positioned in other gear (vest, go-bag) is a plus. I played with a 43 and then a 43X for a while. They do not use the same magazines as their bigger cousins and, while they carry as easily as the 26, on the timer, they do not perform the same. This is purely my experience. Some folks I know get better performance from their single stack Glocks. This is why there is chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry.

I will say that the Gen 2.5 and 3 Glock 26s are my favorites. I have a Gen 5 but the finger grooves on the earlier generations are needed for my larger hands.

The fact that I have to use Glock at work alone gives the G26 the nod over the 365. The Glocks partially loaded striker and the availability of the SCD to allow positive control of the ignition system (for my use and training) wins all day/every day over the Sig striker design. The "issues" with the P320 FOW just reaffirm that my choice is the right one for me.

Hard to argue against a Glock's reliability, but a 26 is just a 17 or 19 with the ends sawed off. Still a pretty bulky pistol. The 365 feels like it was built to be that size. As others have pointed out, something in the "43" series would be a better comparison.

I'm a revolver guy. Chiefs Special or some derivative -- usually my 640 Pro.

I have one semi-auto: Sig P365.

G26! and I am a definite earlier production Sig fan, carried one most of my LE career. Although a little chunky (so is my P229), I like the 26 for the cheap, abundant magazines, capacity options of carrying 10-33 rounds; the ability to use the mags in my 9mm AR, reliability and the myriad aftermarket parts and accessories. That said, I’d be interested in the slightly gimmicky 365 SAS if I found one at the right price.

@ the OP, There is only one person that can correctly answer your question
Get a mirror and ask the person looking back at you, "which one did I shoot the best?"

Thank you for your input. I do realize that I am the one to make the ultimate decision.

Yesterday, during a PPC match, I encountered carpal tunnel induced limp wristing with my 1911 and hardball. Yes, I do realize that carpal tunnel is a potentially temporary issue, but it is still disconcerting. After the match, when shooting 9mm vs the 45, I found that I was able to better control the 9mm than the 45. (As a note, after shooting a 45 1911 for almost45 years, yesterday was the first time I had issues with FTEs, which I attribute solely to the carpal tunnel.)

I am looking at either the G26 or the P365 as a candidate for predominantly pocket carry when I am in a free state. While my HSc was the prime candidate for pocket carry, it has been shelved due to an AD caused by a bent firing pin when the slide automatically went into battery. Once it is repaired, it has to regain my trust. Virtually all of the shops that I frequent won't allow me to pocket a pistol, so an in-person comparison of a G26 and a P365 is out of the question, hence my original question.

I also realize that the Sig is under a dark cloud due to the discharge issues of the P320, fortunately the P365 I am contemplating can be had with a manual safety.

Thanks!

EDC decisions come down to reliability, carry mode and capacity.
Reliabiity - the current model 365's of the last couple of years are fully reliable, owners have thousands of rounds through them without a hiccup. Those with a dog in the fight against Sig keep making comparisons to either the first gen which had a resolved problem, or other models. Think about what the Glock 42 went through for three iterations before achieving reliability.
Carry mode-the G26 is a small brick, does not pocket carry unless you have enormous cargo pants, and IWB require pants up a waist size. The 365 is slimmer and lighter, 18 oz vs 22 oz, will pocket carry in regular pants, or IWB without having to oversize your pants.
Capacity - a tie. The Glock mags are less expensive and easier to hand load. A couple of mags should suffice for a EDC handgun as it is not a range gun. The Glock can accept larger capacity mags from it's big brothers, the Sig can accomodate a 12 round mag. The stock 365 mags themselves are thinner for pocket carry than the stock 26 mags, part of their design innovation.

If already an owner and fan of a G26, absolutely no xompelling reason to trade it for a 365, $ are already invested in a very reliable weapon. If new to the sub-compact semi striker carry, however, if unable to range test both at least thoroughly handle them at your LGS. Pocket them, waist carry them, sight them, dry fire them. For a micro compact EDC, my money will be on the Sig.

In my experience, the G26 is not pocketable in anything other than a leg cargo pocket. FWIW, the only gun that I can pocket carry is a J frame. That is the niche role for my 442. I am just over the Commodore Barry. PM me if you want to lay hands on a G26 and you can see what I am talking about.

I have both. While the G26 is a great gun, and I actually shoot it better than my G17, it is no way a pocket gun, at least for me.

The P365, however, is in my pocket right now, in an Alabama Pocket Holster, just like it is most days. It is also no slouch in the shooting department either, it handles like a much larger gun, once again, at least for me.

IANAL, YMMV, etc.

Glock 43x.

Ships with 10rd mags, but you can get a Shield Arms mag thats flush fit and holds 15. I love mine. I actually sold my gen 3 G26 once I got the 43x

If it's an "either-or" decision between a G26 or a P365, then I'd go with the Sig, mostly because of size. However, given more unlimited options, and assuming that you're going to stay with 9mm, then I'd give the G43 some consideration.

I've accumulated a few 9mm CCW's over the past few years, searching for that 4-leaf clover; something that I can shoot well, still fits in my pockets and that's nearly 100% reliable. I've accumulated the following: G26, M&P9c, M&P9Shield, Sig's 365SAS and a 365XL, along with several J-frames and "mouse guns" in 38 Spl, 380 and 32 ACP. Somehow I find myself carrying a G42 most of the time. For me, I think that 8 rounds (Magguts follower) of soft shooting 380 should suffice in most situations; it's easy to rack its slide if necessary; and it rides very well in almost every pocket. And it's a Glock. I do sometimes wish that it was a 9mm, but they weren't available back when I bought my G42. I've read that a G43's slide is a bit stiff to rack, but I've never tried one. Just some more thoughts for your consideration. -S2

I tried to like the G-26 on two separate occasions ..... felt chubby in my hand... sold them and...... went back to my S&W 3913/14s.

Couple of friends that swear by the Sig 365..... I love the old P series Sigs..... but the 365 doesn't seem worth a $600-800(mags and holster) experiment to my needs.

I'm sticking with my 30 year old tech in the 3913/14/NLs I have.... if I feel I need/want more than 8+1 I'm going to a 6906 (12+1) or Beretta Compact at 15+1
