Arkansas passes stand your ground law
The Arkansas state legislature has passed and the Governor has signed Act 250 removing the duty to retreat. Our prior law was pretty good and only required a person to retreat from the threat of serious bodily harm or death if the could do so in complete safety. This change in the law eliminates that requirement.
Since I did not see an emergency clause in the ACT it should take effect 90 days after the legislature adjourns.

It's good to see that in spite of the push for gun control legislation, some states are having none of it and are going in the opposite direction.

I see self defense as a NATURAL RIGHT, and there should not be a need for the legislature to codify that RIGHT, but sorry excuses for DA's and civil litigators have forced our hands.
Good on ya AR! We need to see this at a NATIONAL level, but feel that we will need one more election cycle before it is possible at the fed level.

Excellent, it's nice to hear that some states recognize logical self defense situations. Good for you Arkansas!

This is how the current law is in Nebraska. SYG sounds pretty good, but I'm not sure practically it really changes that much. In order to use deadly force, the deadly threat needs to be imminent. If you have the ability to retreat in complete safety, is it really an imminent threat, so would SYG even apply?
Haven't there been a couple of guys in Florida that claimed SYG, but got caught up with the imminence issue?

Great news for the law abiding people of Arkansas! There seems to be a growing number of states that look a lot better than my Virginia.
