I’ve been looking to replace my well worn Galco leather pocket holster (15 + yrs old) when I ran across an ad for Blue Force Gear. Today their pocket holster arrived in the mail and I’ve been carrying my 340PD in it. It’s wafer thin, exactly what I was looking for, and reduces the bulk of the revolver. As an aside my LCP fits too, but that may change after the holster stretches out a bit. It only cost me $15 and arrived in about a week.

I've also been carrying a Mika pocket for years. It fills all my needs quite well. I'm sure the Blue Force is good, but it looks somewhat more bulky than the Mika I deal with daily. That feature may be more appealing for some.

A friend had a Mika I tried and he makes a very good product, but it didn’t work for me in some of my dress slacks.

Remoras have worked fine for me. Hell the one Ruger sent me with my LCP has been flawless.

I really like the thin aspect, but have a few questions after viewing the video on their website.

How does the Blue Force do when you draw from your pocket?
The video shows that you push the gun into holster to secure it.

Does the holster hold on to the firearm when you draw?
Do you have to push the holster off of the firearm as you draw?

The holster stays in the pocket of my jeans when I draw the gun but haven’t had a chance to try it w/dress slacks yet.

My gun comes free of the holster b/c the tab at the base grabs the top of my pocket when I draw it. I have not had to push the holster off the gun so far. We’re going to dinner @ the American Legion w/friends tomorrow so I’ll know more then.

I don't pocket carry very often, but I do have one for my 642.



I've only worn it with relaxed-fit jeans. It's thinner than my Nemesis, so it is more comfortable. However, because it's thinner, printing is a little more obvious when sitting down, but probably not significantly more. It does hold onto the gun more snugly than the Nemesis, so I have to make sure to draw it such that the tab snags on the corner of the pocket or the holster will come out with the gun. That's never been an issue with my Nemesis.

Is the BFG holster rigid or flexible?

Yes.

I'm not sure what the material is, but to me it seems like a semi-rigid neoprene, if that makes sense. It will go flat if you press it while empty. The tab is fairly rigid, though.

When I'm wearing cargo pants with large pockets I carry a Walther CCP in a Remora pocket holster. It works great. For my M649 I use a relatively thin Galco pocket holster and I don't think they make them anymore.

OTOH, I'm getting to where I mostly belt carry now, anyway.

Do you think it will mold itself to guns other than the ones recommended?

I can't say. I don't have any other guns of similar size to my 642s to try. However, it's not tightly molded to the gun, so I think as long as the gun was of a similar size and shape, it should work.

Edit: I will add that when I first got it I did try putting my 642 in a ziploc bag and leaving it in the holster for a while to see if it would loosen up a bit (I don't like a lot of retention in a pocket holster), but it didn't make any noticeable difference.

That's a nice looking holster. I've got an old sterling .38 pistol that I sometimes carry when I can't carry my shield. I couldn't find a pocket holster that would work right with it that I was comfortable enough with so I made one to custom fit it from a cheap $5 neoprene mouse pad. Same basic design as this one. Basically folded over and cut to fit the gun tgen sewn. The neoprene does a good job on griping and staying in your pocket when you pull the gun out. Not often I have to use it but mainly when I wear shorts to the beach or dress pants to a special event.

I didn't see it listed above, but do you have the red or green site on the 340?

I have just started carrying a 442 performance center in a Mika’s pocket holster, great product he even called me to thank me for the order and see if there was anything specific I need in the holster. You don’t find that kind of service and quality anymore great product good guy.

Usually when I mention Glock it get changed to Block by the spell checker.

That one seems logical because Glocks do look kind of like Blocks.

BTW, the Galco Horsehide holster works better for me than the DeSantis Nemesis.

I use it with a 1 7/8 inch J frames.

I had trouble with the Nemesis turning upside down, or even backwards in the large pockets on my 5.11 pants.

The Galco is just enough bigger to prevent that. It also adheres to the cloth in the pockets better.

Also, when I carry my steel 649, the Galco keeps it close to my leg, but sometimes with the Nemesis the holster moves out and bangs back to my leg with each step. Don't have this problem with lighter AirWeight J frames, though with either holster.

I have one that I carry my model 36 snubby in. Snug fit, and draws from my coat pocket just fine while the holster stays put. Hard to go wrong for $15 on this one.

I'm a huge fan of the FIST Kydex pocket holster. I've been using one for about 18 years to carry my Kahr PM9. It's thin, and has a thumb push that you use when drawing that ensures that the holster stays in the pocket and the gun is released fully.

Come to think of it, I've actually used two in all that time. The first one developed a crack after about 15 years. When I called to order a new one, they gave me a huge discount because of the first one cracking. It was great customer service.

I have been using DeSantis Nemesis Pocket Holsters for about 20 + years and absolutely think the world of them! They make them for all popular carry guns, they are moisture proof and keep gun dry when you sweat, comfortable, hold gun securely and still allow a good draw. Last time I purchased one they cost about $23.00 and they are also sticky on the outside so they remain in your pocket when you pull Roscoe.

I have them for my 2" Chief's specials and for my Sig P365. I'd highly recommend them!

Simply Rugged makes a pocket holster. I like it a lot for my 649.

Gallo is one of the top holster makers. They take pride in their craftsmanship and state "we will sell no holster before it's time".

I’ve had great luck switching over from many different pocket holsters over to a Mika. Not too expensive, nicely made, completely hides the shape of the pistol in tight pants and makes it completely disappear in loose fitting pants. Super fast to draw and the holster always stays in the pocket. Each holster is custom made for each pistol for each individual after he calls and consults with the buyer. You can’t beat that. Custom made for an off the shelf price.

A few years ago I discovered that the Alabama Pocket Holster was the way to go. These kydex holsters are a bit pricey, but they hold the pistol securely with the trigger secured, eliminate printing, and are easy to deploy th weapon when needed

Over the years I have used Galco, Mika, and Nemisus holsters but last year I came across the Vedder pocket holster. I find I greatly prefer it over any other I have used. It cost a bit more But I think worth it.

for pistols, i like Vedder Pocket Locker and Alabama pocket holsters. for revolvers it's hard to beat the Mika.

FIST made one of their Kydex holsters for my 1954 M&P snub. Yes, it takes a pretty good sized pocket, but it works for me in some situations.

My home protection gun is a M10-7 snub SB that was my service revolver years ago. Great gun but a bit too much for pocket carry, at least for me. My pocket EDC is a 340PD.

When you say that they "made you..." one, do you mean custom?

Sorry, that was a poor choice of words. FIST lists a K-frame snub pocket holster as a standard product. However, I'm sure they don't get many orders, so it took a while to get it.

They're pretty quick on more "standard" pocket pistols.

I've tried Kramer, Mitch Rosen, and Mika pocket holsters.

While I like the look of the Kramer and Rosen holsters over the Mika, and think they all conceal equally well for me, I find the Mika a better solution in that it is not dependent on using your thumb or snagging it on your pants pocket, etc., in order to draw the gun free of the holster. Very smooth and trouble free draw with the Mika. Also about half the price of the Kramer and a third of the Rosen, if memory serves.

Mika first....DeSantis Nemisis second.

Safariland pocket holster kydex construction with exterior grip material, best suited for airweight J frame, Colt Agent or small light weight auto unless you are very BIG with big pockets. Payed $10 at gun show.

I'll go against the grain and said I like the Desantis Nemisis better than the Mika holsers I have. The Mika's are little more bulky than the Nemisis.

I've got both a Nemesis and Mika for my J frame. Used to rate them a toss up, maybe with the edge going to the Desantis.. As time has passed, I've grown to appreciate the Mika. The Nemesis sits in the drawer. A hip issue has me wearing suspenders temporarily so I'm pocket carrying daily. The Mika gets the nod every time.

I just ordered a Mika for my BG380 this evening. 30 seconds after I submitted the order Bob Mika called to thank me. Who does that anymore? This Mika will replace the Nemesis I've used for years, that no longer wants to stay in my pocket when I draw.

Little late to the party but the square bottom Mika fits most of my pockets so gets the most use with my 642.
Here is a pic of both SB and RB.

The UM (S&W 380 Bodyguard) and Nemesis (Glock subcompact) are others I have but not used near as much.

Not only does Bob call and personally thank you for the order, but 10+ years ago when I ordered, he agreed to do a semi-custom for an idea I had, which I may do if these ever need replaced. Since I've never had "deep pockets"
I thought in order to help sit as low as possible, the holster could have an open muzzle but still be covered to help a little bit with being lower in the holster. Just a thought that I may try sometime if Bob is still willing.
