If a qualified LEO retires and has the required ID for LEOSA carry issued from the department head and that department head changes (new Sheriff elected) has there been any rulings or any official blurbs stating that the retired LEO must obtain a new ID from the new department head?

Is the department ID still valid for LEOSA?

Not that I am aware of. I have carried under LEOSA for the past 12 years. Nobody who originally signed my retired credentials is employed any longer at my old agency. Never had an issue renewing it. On some departments, Department Heads and HRM's change like you change your underwear. Such a requirement sounds pretty much unworkable, to me.

Yes once you qualify you are good for the year.

Department issued retirement ID should be good until it is lost & then replaced, revoked, you lose eligible status (conviction of disqualifying crime) or you die.

My department issues a LEOSA card in addition to retiree credentials. They issue a new one each year when I shoot my qualification and it's good for a year regardless of changes in the department hierarchy.

All you need is proof of service or retirement from service, and a valid qualification on annual basis.

I've been using my retired creds as proof of my service, and I get a card from the state after qualifying with my local sheriff's office.

The current administrator of your former department is not germane to the matter, only that your service qualifies you for LEOSA, and that you have qualified with the firearm(s) you carry, depending on state.

My former agency doesn’t give retired credentials so it is of no use to me unless someone can tell me how to get around that.
