What is your Go to War Sidearm?
Obviously ones first choice for battle would most likely be a Rifle of some sort, but a comment I have often seen on a variety of firearms forums when discussing carry guns is something to the effect of; "This isn't my Go to War Pistol" typically when referring to a Concealed Carry Firearm which is obviously geared more towards convenience than outright combat effectiveness, but that begs the seldom asked question; "What is a Go to War Pistol?" or more specifically; "What is your Go to War Pistol?"
Now, in all honesty, I don't expect that many folks necessarily own a designated "Go to War Sidearm" which they purchased for that express purpose, but I'm sure that plenty of folks own a good Duty Pistol which at the very least could be trusted in such a role, should such a need arise, even if only as a backup to their primary weapon or as a means to defend themselves until they could get to something better suited for combat.
So, what is (or at least what would be) your choice for a Go to War Sidearm?
I'm sure that most folks probably saw this coming, but mine would be the Heckler & Koch USP45 Elite.
Why? Well, aside from the fact that it is my only Duty Pistol, it's also obviously an extremely high quality, durable, accurate, and powerful pistol, so even if I did have other Duty Pistols to choose from, it's doubtful that I would choose anything else over it.
The standard H&K USP is one of the most thoroughly tested, rugged, and reliable pistols, and the Elite variation is the hand-fitted, competition grade model, meaning it's theoretically even better.
What's more, the USP is essentially a scaled down, simplified version of the H&K Mk23 Mod 0, which was designed by the US Navy SOCOM as a primary offensive weapon for covert operations in which a Rifle was too big/noisy for the role, yet a capable weapon was still required.
It holds a total of 12+1 rounds of .45 ACP with Standard Capacity Magazines (10 with California Compliant Reduced Capacity Magazines) and 14+1 with Magguts Extensions. As if that wasn't already sufficient firepower, the USP45 is one of the few pistols which is rated for .45 Super, so if .45 ACP just isn't enough power to put down whatever threat I may be facing, it can handle cartridges with power roughly on par with 10mm Auto.
So, with that being said, what is your Go to War Sidearm?
Again, obviously your first choice would likely be a Rifle like an AR or AK, but what would your sidearm be?
NOTE: Please refrain from critiquing the the selections of others or making disparaging remarks on alternative choices which may differ from your own.

No change for me, since I'm already EDCing the handgun I shoot best, the CZ PCR (Police Czech Republic), and a spare mag. I guess I'd carry another mag.

A "Go to War Sidearm" for me would be my tried and tested series 70 .45 Gold Cup modified to be a serious weapon.. Shot much PPC and my clubs version of combat shooting with it.
Gun is very reliable and accurate and my confidence level would be very high!

My Smith 645, and a Model 1917 for back-up. The rifle would be my M1, I trained with one.

Way too old to go to war
But if forced, I'd tote this one I reckon. Or maybe this one. The best 2 I have left.
And I used to have so many more choices. That's what getting old does to you.

While I am predominately a 1911 guy, my last duty issue firearm was a Sig P226 DAO in .40 S&W and I had absolute confidence in it's performance, as it is extremely accurate and as close to 100% reliable as any firearm I have ever owned. Either that one or a Sig P226 TacOPs also in .40 S&W that gets me a couple more rounds in the extended mags. Both are superb fighting firearms.

I’d have to go with my EAA 10mm. I’d never carry it normally, but in a SHTF scenario, 14+1 and a few extra mags would be prudent.

"Go to war"...... how about just the SHTF.
Mine would be either my Wilson Combat Beretta 92 Centurion Tactical 18+1 plus 20rd spares.......... or a 92 Centurion worked over by Allegheny Arms & Gun Works. Either carried in a Bang Bang Leather Rhodesian holster. Maybe both !!!!!! Think Mission Impossible II
Close seconds would be one of my Beretta 92 Elite IIS again worked over by Allegheny Arms. A 4.7" slide vs the Centurions 4.25".
With the new Mec-gar 15 rd flush fit mags the 92 Compact would also be GTG if it was secondary to a long gun!
Wait I'm detecting a pattern here..................................
Except for 915s my S&Ws tend to be compacts 690xs or 391x guns..... though a brace of 6906s would be cool..... w/15rd extras w/ +2 adaptors!!

Last time I carried the Blue Model 19.
That worked out OK so I’ll take it again.

The war will have to come to me as I'm going nowhere. After I top off the moat and lay in some more sandbags I will sit with my pile of loaded pistols
and my survival fruitcake and wait for an RPG to knock on my door.

Even though I'm not a 9mm fan, it would be my Browning Hi Power. My first handgun, bought new in 1974. In nearly 50 years, and countless thousands of rounds, it has never - not once - malfunctioned on factory ammunition.

Should those darned Tasmanians decide to invade the US I would have to say my sidearm of choice would be my Turkish CZ clone. 100% reliable, and the most accurate pistol I own.
Of course. I'd also have an AR15 or three handy as well. At my age I wouldn't be fit for the military, but if they (whomever they may be) come here I'll do what I can.

Probably this 1971 Browning HP that I bought new, although I too do not like the the 9mm. The other choice would be my standard issue Colt 1911

A 5.7 X 28mm platform, suppressed. It's my HD weapon and I have enough ammunition to carry me through at least one battle...I think. Then it's whatever I have left.
At 62, it's highly unlikely they'll haul my butt back in but I would go...

Probably one of these two.
Although depending on circumstances, I might ditch the can on the H&K Mk 23.

Absolutely no doubt, .45acp 1911 would be my first choice.
However, if it is a war, supplies may get short. Practicality would mean having a 9mm in reserve. I'd go with a Hi-Power or maybe a Sig P-226.

I know what I'll never carry again - M9, M9A1, or M9A4. Ever.
My carry for my last several years in policing, including SRT, is the Browning High Power MkIII in 40 S&W.

My RIA 1911 on one hip, my Ruger American 45 on the other, full mags and spares for each. M&P15 on my single-point sling, mags in a bandolier. And if I don't fall down from the weight, my Stevens 12 ga pump across my arms with another web belt of buck'n'ball. LoL. I will fall down.

Mine would be my Glock 19. That is based on reliability, simplicity, ease of maintenance, and availability of parts pretty much anywhere in the world.

Go to war or SHTF , I'd carry my Glock 19 . I do not question it's reliability and I have more 9mm ammo than anything else .

Assuming I get a rifle, my sidearm will ALWAYS be the 4" 686+. Nothing shoots better for me than an L frame.

Even though I don't have one, I'd go for a Glock 45.

Glock 21 would be my first pick, with a Glock 17 being my second choice.

Full Size M&P 1.0 9mm.
If there was ever a justified need for a high capacity handgun, the “Go To War” specification of this thread is it. I have Taran Tactical +6 extensions on three magazines, giving a load-out of 70 rounds. Barnes TAC-X 115 grn solid copper hollow points.
A GTW handgun is not the typical CCW “self defense” gun or situation. It might be a last ditch effort to save yourself from multiple adversaries; a pro-active, conveniently small, close-range attack weapon with numerous targets; or a keep-their-heads-down-with-numerous-rounds-while-maneuvering or covering fire handgun.
In none of these scenarios would I want to run out of ammo and have to reload (especially a revolver) after 6-9 rounds when I can have 24 rounds on board to start and a fast reload to get another 23 rounds ready.
Prepare for the worst, and take advantage of anything less without compromise. If it only takes a few rounds to solve a problem, so be it. I do not count on or prepare for things to be only that simple.
