I worked in the Philippines 2013-2018. In the big cities, every mall, every store had metal detectors and long-gun armed security at all public and employee entrances. They had a terror-bombing in 2009 and afterward required that level security by national law.

You can own firearms there, but cannot carry concealed without a permit, and even then not into stores or most public places. You check your firearm in hotels, where they'll keep them secure.

Your a wise man Sir. Something is far better than nothing and if you train with said something your way ahead of the game. Hope your enjoying retirement Old Cop. I have no " carry rotation ", unless of course it mirrors any other weapon I would normally carry. Being unfamiliar can cause bad things.

Here in kalifornia we need a permit to carry a concealed handgun. My jurisdiction normally only allows one handgun to be chosen. I had to petition the Sheriff to get a second pistol added to my permit. My reasoning was that I train with my carry pistol, and that I wanted a second of the same type as a backup just in case my primary failed for some reason. That was the only reason my request was approved.

Both my pistols are full size 1911 .45 Government Models. It is always funny when I go in for my yearly range qualifications. My sidearms always draw extra attention and approval of the instructor when presented among the other permit holder's compact semi autos and J-frame sized revolvers. Civilian carry of a full size pistol must really be a rarity in our county. I've just always figured that if I needed a gun for personal protection, it should be as effective as possible in that application.

In the world we live today where the fight is most likely against other well armed men, a few more rounds and the ability for a fast reload has proven itself to be an issue. As much as I like my revolvers, the 1911 makes more sense for "social work" these days.

In the choir loft, stacked in alongside the pipe organ.

Default I carried a J Frame 38 for years.

For close to 15 years I carried a J Frame 38 in a fanny pack.
I was made fun of but hung in there for years because I was armed 100% of the time when out in public.
After going through several fanny packs when it was time to buy another fanny pack I decided to get an auto because it was lighter and because Boise wasn't the small little city it had been for the past few decades and I could have a few more rounds and have a easier reload.
I went through several pistols.
#1 was a Taurus 380 and it was a big mistake because it wasn't 100% reliable and ammo was expensive for the true defense rounds.
#2 I went all in and bought a Sig Sauer P938 and it's a great pistol but having the 1911 cocked and locked was OK but I found the safety off once when putting the 938 on the bed stand and that was all it took to go find a striker fired pistol.
#3 Was a S&W Shield 9MM Generation 1 that was on sale and it has been a 100% reliable in 3500+ rounds.
#4 Shield Plus -->It's a long story but I found out that Taurus had a lifetime warrantee and I sent it back and they said they couldn't fix it and sent a 9mm to replace it. I ended up trading it in on a Shield Plus + a very small amount of money.
The Shield Plus is great but i will say if I didn't send the Taurus for repair I was 100% satisfied when my Gen 1 Shield.
The biggest thing I can say is if you buy something new and find yourself not carrying it just remember you have that good old trusty J-Frame
