J frame OWB?
Anyone carry their J frame OWB?
Some of us are not shaped to have anything in our pants but us. Getting bigger pants only means that you have to cinch the belt down tight and your back to not shaped to.....
Pocket carry is great unless your sitting down. Cargo pockets are great for sitting, but when walking the gun is banging you in the knee with each step.
J frame for weight or do ya just bit the bullet and carry a bigger cannon.

Yes I OWB J frames. I have DeSantis speed scabbard and Kramer scabbard. Both very comfortable and hardly know it is there. Agreed on your findings about pocket or cargo carry. Only thing I can comfortably pocket carry is Seecamp. 40 plus years and 40 lbs ago my first off duty gun model 60 was IWB in the Bianchi suede clip holster but just not comfortable anymore. There are some good Kydex OWB options also.

I carry a J-Frame in my pocket Al the time. I also carried one in the waist. There were days when some pants didn’t fit as well so I would move to on the belt. Actually on the belt is most comfortable. As long as the cover garment keeps it covered.

I use a Don Hume JIT slide for mine. Nice minimal holster for a small lite gun. The thing I’ve noticed with most OWB j frame holsters are they are really big or bulky for what you are carrying. Seems counterproductive to have 1# of leather for a 1# gun.

My usual J frame carry is appendix, pocket, or ankle...but the Lobo Gun Leather enhanced pancake holster is a great way to carry a J or K frame OWB.

Model 442 in a Desantis mini-scabbard is very comfortable, using bigfoot steel core belt can hardly tell it's there.

Normally pocket carry an air weight, but when hiking go to an OWB crossdraw with a 357 (60-9).

Thanks everyone I was beginning to think that I had lost what little bit of sense I had.
Yes for years I carried the F.I.E. in my Avitar, but times have changed. I no longer go away from home hours at a time leaving the door wide open (it's now closed and locked). I'm not so sure that a two shot .38 with a hammer action much akin to a bumper jack is good insurance anymore.
Again THANKS

I used to all the time in winter. Desantis thumb break scabbard on a Hanks belt. Problem was I have no hips to speak of, and cinching up the belt eventually caused nerve impingement on my left hip, which led to numbness and pain in my left thigh.
I walk at least three miles daily, and in the summer I wear Hikers hidden suspenders under my tee shirt, and pocket carry my 642 or my BG. I'm back to wearing the 1.25 inch cotton infinitely adjustable belts I've worn for 20 or 30 years, and the nerve problem has long since healed. But that belt doesn't adequately support OWB carry.
I can wear AIWB with that cotton belt, and a Lobo offset belt clip holster. I wear that to church, especially, so I can draw while seated. But the vast majority of time I am pocket carrying my BG, if not the 642.
EDIT - one other thing others might find helpful. I bought a pair of Duluth Trading Co ballroom jeans to wear on my Harley, because they have a little triangular patch in the crotch that makes them more comfortable. A little baggy for my taste, but the pockets are enormous. Makes it easy to pocket carry the 642 in a Mica holster.
Off topic. I'm comfortable with five or seven shots, and a reload, but the day Ruger adds a manual thumb safety to the LCP MAX I'm at the LGS to buy one.

I can't carry IWB. I have a Fobus paddle holster that works well in the colder months when I'm wearing a coat. I like paddle holsters. I'm going to get one for my G26.
Otherwise its a J frame in the front, strong-side pocket.

Mostly pocket carry the J frame. Have a couple of Craft OWB holsters that I like and use occasionally. Never warmed up to IWB.

I frequently carry a 640 OWB in a leather holster from 1791Gunleather. In cooler months with a layer of cover garments it works really well. Its compact, holds the little revolver on my belt snug and tight, and I've never had a problem with it. Highly recommend their stuff. Summer months are a little more challenging with just an untucked t-shirt. I also use a Galco pocket holster with the 640, but the last few pairs of pants I've bought had front pockets that just seemed a little too small to conceal satisfactorily.

My coworker’s husband passed away a little over a year ago. He was the same pants size as me. I purchased his pants, 10 pairs, which were a Wrangler flex waist jean. They work superbly for concealed carry. My weapon fits very comfortably IWB. I also have a Kore ratchet belt. I put the belt on with my weapon and holster and then cut it to length before securing the buckle. There’s a little more overlap when I am not carrying but just the right amount for when I do carry. I can live with that. Either get a flex waist pants or go a size bigger to accommodate your weapon. Probably easier to adjust pants options than compromise by giving up a weapon you like or worse, not carrying at all. The advantage of the Kore belt and flex pants is that I can loosen the belt without unlatching it and my pants will pull down without unbuttoning them when going to the restroom. This means my weapon stays securely in place.

On the rare occasion I ccw my 442 Airweight I use a Fobus OWB with a t-shirt over it (I only ever carry it in the dog days of summer). With an IWB I always feel the cylinder digging into my side.

I use both of these. I know you are looking for OWB, while the flex tuk is IWB. I find it very comfortable. These are actually made for the Kimber K6s, but it is almost the same size as a J frame, the cylinder is slightly bigger (slightly smaller than a K-frame cylinder). The J frame fits just a little less snug.
The pocket holster works great for carrying in a coat pocket, even works in a lightweight spring jacket.

The other thing that I find handy with an IWB holster is to go with double clip as opposed to single clip.

Back a while turnerriver found a treasure trove of Chic Gaylord and
Seventrees holsters, and he let me have the Chic Gaylord speed scabbard.
I carry my Model 642-1 in it very often. On the left.
2nd from left is a black sharkskin pancake by Rudy Lazano at Black Hills
Leather. I like it too.
3rd from left is a little Safariland Model 16 that I also like.
4th from left, when I wear an inside waistband, it is this
Delfatti with a sharkskin mouth.
5th when driving my choice is Ken Null's VAM shown with
my 642-1.

I carry a 642 in a pocket holster only. I'm a fat southpaw and it's a pain in the butt to find a decent owb holster for that or my 19 2.5".

Probably one of the most overlooked advantages of the J frame is the multiple methods of carry versus other guns.
I carry mine IWB, OWB, and pocket carry. They all work.

When I used to carry my M60-7 I used a Kramer Horsehide OWB Scabbard. IMHO it's the best out there! Now I use a Kramer OWB Scabbard for my Sig P365 along with a Horsehide belt and mag pouch. Just awesome!

Sometimes during the dog days of summer here in Central Va I’ll carry my 442 Airweight in a plain old Fobus paddle holster (with a shirt thrown over it obviously).

I am in this camp. Mostly pocket carry but depending on activities such as driving will switch to IWB or OWB if working on the farm. Sometimes I am too lazy to open the safe and get out a larger revolver for OWB.
It's hot here right now. I went to have dinner with a friend. J frame went in my pocket. His Glock 17 stayed in the trunk. J frame: always here, always ready.

FYI for you J framers, there is a Ken Null Vampire holster for sale at an excellent price in the classifieds. It's a horizontal crossdraw, excellent for when sitting down or driving. I'd buy it, but my one J-frame is a 640-1, which is ever so slightly bigger than other J-frames, and I am sure the Null holster is a tight fit.

I normally wear jeans. Pocket and IWB just don't work for me. I carry my 642 in a Don Hume JIT. Its perfect for this little gun and conceals very well.

always OWB for me
51 plus years of concealed carry. Model 36, then Model 60, then Model 637-2 for last 20 plus years. Always Smith & Wesson quality leather (when they were made in Lillington, NC). Always strong side 4:00 o'clock on Galco stiff quality gun belt. The combination (1-1/4" Galco for dress slacks/suits - 2" for khaki, blue, black dress jeans). Speed strip in pocket for extra rounds.
Sometime back I came into a S&W M&P 2.0 Compact which turns out to be a real sweet carry gun, and I found out it fits my SafariLand GLS holster (bought for a Glock 21 Gen 4) like a glove, so now I'm trying to practice at least weekly with the 2.0 & Safariland combo to get where I feel really comfortable with the 2.0 as EDC.
Never really experienced any serious printing problems with any of the combinations above.

Another Don Hume JIT fan here. I like this holster because it works better for me than any other J-frame holster I’ve tried. The fact that it’s cheap is a great bonus.
But once I found pants with pockets that work for the purpose I’ve transitioned to pocket carry the vast majority of the time.

Pocket carry is great unless your sitting down. Cargo pockets are great for sitting, but when walking the gun is banging you in the knee with each step.
J frame for weight or do ya just bit the bullet and carry a bigger cannon.

I use OWB for ALL my carry guns. Don't like pressing a hunk of metal (or plastic) up against my hip.

Yes, absolutely use a belt holster for J-frames. In my Chief’s Soecial years, I used a black Bianchi 5BH (not BHL) that was super thin, but held the gun securely, and weighed almost nothing. Very nice holster, but I ridiculed it because it was black. (I strongly prefer tan leather.) I think it finally got even with me and disappeared. I have no idea where it went.
Nowadays I am more likely to use a Centennial, and I too have a JIT slide for that model - also for the P365. My days of IWB carry are about over, and I’m not fond of pocket carry.
I’d love to find one of those Safariland holsters like Crazyphil shows. Very classy rig, IMO.

I regularly have people sitting behind me. We sit in folding metal chairs. If someone has a gun on their belt it is obvious to those behind you. I'm obsessive about not letting anyone know I carry. That's why I won't carry on my belt.

I carry my mod 36 sometimes OWB in a Bob Leahy Simply Rugged holster and I really like that holster it rides high and stays snug on my belt and the way it is molded keeps the gun secure. The J frame is an easy piece too carry.
