It’s still the Peoples Republik of New Jerseystan.
Some counties slow to approve
Some counties may not have approved any permits
Some counties add tons of restrictions, including not while operating a car.
And a bill was introduced September 22 to prohibit carry almost everywhere, including houses of worship.

I heard from a friend in Maryland that Maryland is issuing permits somewhat expeditiously.
Do not expect New Jersey to honor permits from other states anytime soon.

Nothing set in stone.
Police Departments are accepting certificates from NRA certified instructors. From what I have heard, all of the instructors require 50 rounds at a Q target, all with various distances that include 25 yards. The minimum is 40/50 rounds in the white part of the Q target. Our instructor required us to shoot 10 rounds at 25 yards. At 5 yards he had us do 5 rounds one handed with each of our hands as part of the 50 round total. We also did 10 rounds each at 7, 10 and 15 yards. The instructor made us reload the magazine after each set of 5 rounds. We had a classroom lecture and a written test on NJ use of force.
Before my qualifying test I made sure I could hit 10/10 at 25 yards and 5/5 at five yards one handed with each hand.

Maryland went "SHALL ISSUE" on July 5th when Gov. Hogan issued executive order to state police. From start to finish (permit in hand) took me 41 days.
Current wait times are about 56 days.

Not sure if you were addressing me or the OP. In MD most of the prohibited sites are the same as under Federal law; schools, federal facilities; gov buildings. MD adds a few "sensitive areas" which may or may not get shot down by the current SCOTUS due to a new law suit against NY.
No guns allowed signs do NOT have force of law in MD. All they can do is ask you to leave.

Basically, I can carry anywhere not prohibited by Federal law. The New Jersey laws never really had any prohibitions since nobody was allowed to carry at all. There are a few New Jersey restrictions that, except for state parks, do not affect me. However, the anti’s in New Jersey are seeking to pass a new law that, like New York, would make almost everywhere in New Jersey a sensitive place.

SC has a long way to go regarding reciprocity and out of state permit issuance before they can demand any other state do it.
