...and nothing happened.
My CC permit showed up in today's mail. So I calmly attached my IWB holster, slipped my pistol into it, picked up my daughter from school, and went shopping at the mall.
And nothing happened.
Here's hoping it's as uneventful every time.
Amen.

Congrats!
Make sure you check your gun laws when it comes to carrying on school property. You may have already committed a "violation".

I believe in Oregon, It's legal.
Utah too.
Technically CA, but they'll find a reason to jail you if caught. Laws don't really matter unless they want it to matter.
Congrats on your permit! May you protect your family and be safe!

I must admit that I was shocked to find out that it was legal for me to carry into school. Verified that with the Oregon Firearms Federation the other night.
My carry weapon is an M&P .40 full size. I carried in a Crossbreed Super-Tuck Deluxe. It felt OK. I actually feel weirder about it now that I'm home than when I was out. I seriously hope I never have to use it. I seriously hope that if I do, I have the conviction to use it to protect.

Welcome fellow sheepdog!
Have you been to WalMart for nachos, and ammo?
The WM stroll is a right of passage for many.
Sounds like a well thought out rig!
Congrats,

LOL about Walmart! I don't know how it is around the rest of the country, but here in the Portland, OR metro area, there's simply no ammo to be had at the big box stores.
My local store that I frequent seems to keep getting in .40 cal. ammo. Don't know why, but suffice to say I'm there every pay day stocking up. Now, if I could just find some .38 target ammo.
Funny you should mention the sheepdog thing. I have no idea where I read it, but I too saw how there are three types of people in the world. The Sheep, the Wolves, and the Sheepdogs. I absolutely despise criminals and anyone else who preys on the weak. The story about how the two thugs were shot by the ex-marine while robbing the Subway store made me cheer! Too bad the other one didn't get his just rewards.

Ironbar welcome to the group. Obvious you have gave a lot of thought to the responsibility of CCW.
I caught myself yesterday walking to the convience store some 100 yd away from apartment,. Half way I realized I was NOT Toting. When back got my snubie and tried again. Got hit up two "street people" on the way back.
Never can be to careful. Hope you the best

I stocked up before barry took over, and didn't think about going to WM, and not being able to buy ammo....
There's always nachaos, and perhaps some good CCW clothing!
In SC just a few weeks ago, there were two different robbery attempts made by punks, one against a pizza delivery guy, and another against an entire AA group at their headquarters....both ended up cured of any further robbery attempts, and armed robberies are now down in the entire state!
Did you find a good gunbelt?

There are NO sheepdogs.
Just people with vested self-interest in themselves and their own.
Helping strangers is NOT done often by CCW holders. (My opinion)
Also, CCW do not always engage, remember the CCW holder in mall shooting who drew holstered his gun and was shot by an SKS wielding young man.
If it there ARE sheepdogs in this world, it is volunteer fire/police/ambulance people.
Police/military are good wolves as much as criminals are bad wolves, coyotes or ferel dogs and are dangerous.

I readily admit that before I was a cop I carried anywhere and everywhere for years and was never called on it. I had a permit for my state (PA) and couldn't've cared less about school zones or casino zones or church zones or whatever. Nobody knew.
Now that I am a cop I still carry everywhere (about 20 states so far and counting) and still have never been called on it. I have been defeated only twice by metal detectors. First was at the Smithsonian Museum in NY (guard smiled, had me sign the guest book and then let me through with my 625) and the second time was at the aquarium in Atlanta (the cop on duty there just laughed at me and told me that NOBODY goes in there with a gun). Oh, and much to my wife's aggravation, I refused to go up the arch in St. Louis because they claimed they had a metal detector inside. I never did find out if they really had one up there or it was just an idle threat. I was a cop at the time but HR 218 had not yet been signed into law and I did not want to take any chances.
So there you have it. If you know how to carry your gun properly and not draw attention to yourself, nobody will know that you have a gun. If I stop you for whatever reason in my jurisdiction I will not ask you if you are carrying but I must assume that you are. If you aren't doing anything wrong it is not my business that you are excersizing your constitutional right.

Yep. didn't go on the Coast Guard boats in Portland b/c of the posted "no firearms" sign (thus making it illegal to cc) and the two marines with rifles standing next to the portable metal detectors. My brother didn't know I was carrying, nor did I explain why I didn't want to go on the boat. "just not feeling well, bro."
