Today I received my O'Rourke revolver pancake for a 4" heavy barrel K frame.

This holster is basic pancacke without side guard or mouth reinforcement. The boning and stitching are very well executed. The brown dye is very well done and even applied. All edges are nicely burnished.

More importantly than all that, this holster is EXTREMELY comfortable. Right out of the box it felt like it was broken in and retention was perfect as well. It almost feels like kydex, where the gun snaps in the last inch or so on its way in, then slides right out after overcoming the initial resistance.

I've had leather OWB holsters from other production and custom makers (K&D, FIST, Shado) and bar none, O'Rourke's is the best I've tried.

John will be getting my OWB holster business from now on. Let's see, I need 3" and 4" N frames, M&P, 915, and 2" J frame.

Now you know my reviews are not complete without pictures:

And under concealment:

I have had the same holster now for 2 or 3 years. I totally agree with you about the quality of his work. Superb.

You are correct...the best I've ever used. I'm through with the so called major brand name holsters. John is a great guy to talk to on the phone. Here's his black leather pancake for a snubnose. Got it in two weeks.

Congratulatiions. I've got the same rig in a 3" version that I use for my M610-2 (pictured) as well as my M25-14. Great holster.

O'Rourke pancakes are first-rate, and he can make them for oddball configurations, like the 325's HiViz front sight. To top it all off, the prices are reasonable.

He gives break-in instructions, IIRC, but Mitch Rosen's Leather Lightning, or some similar name, is the fastest and easiest way to be ready to go. I think that Galco may have a similar preparation.

Hey thanks for the review and especially the pictures. I've been debating on one of these for the past month or so.

I'm now going to order one for a 4" N frame.

Honestly, mine was good to go right out of the box. Literally.

Anybody have it in the dark brown that he says is also available? All I see on his site are pictures of the "natural" color.

John has a picture page of actual customers' holsters on his website. Direct link to it here. The third row down shows pancakes in all three color choices.

I have to make one correction. The saddle brown color that my and Richard Simmons' holsters display is not dyed.

It is the natural color of leather after it has undergone repeated and numerous hand rubbings with oil and then air dried in the sun. Very time consuming and weather dependent.

John was kind enough to share with me some of his technique as we chatted on the phone about my next holster. Which by the way is going to be another pancacke for my M&P semi autos.

Today I wore the holster for an extended period and I am even more impressed.

I had to go to Williams-Sonoma to get some dinner ingredients, so it was about a 30 min drive each way plus all the mall walking. My daughter went along, so of course we had to stop in all the girl stores at the mall.

I wore the holster with my 64-5, held up with one of my Beltman belts. I wore a button down oxford shirt tucked in and a light wool sport coat. The gun (see the first post of this thread) was undetectable no matter how I twisted or turned. Whatever little of the butt would print would be camouflaged by the folds of the coat's fabric. Comfort while driving and walking was night and day compared to the best IWBs I have.

Last night I spoke with John to order one like this one for my full size M&P, which so far has proven difficult to conceal OWB with the other holsters I have tried (Kirkpatric TRC and Raven Phantom). Based on how well my 64 disappears in the O'Rourke holster, I have no doubt that it will work for the M&P as well.

I have never been a fan of OWB, but John's holster is changing that, fast.

You're leaning to the right (gun-side?) in the photo. (AND you left the cap off of the tooth paste!) Very nice bathroom though (seriously).

You're right, though that's probably a function of my left arm being raised to take the picture.

Trust me on this, I've done all kids of contortions in front of the mirror and this holster prints less than any OWB I've ever had and as little as some of the best IWBs that I do have.

Thanks for the BR compliments. I'll post some pics after we re-do it later on this year.

Speaking of holsters....I was looking for a You tube video of a holster maker "boning" a holster and found this....who knew? Check out the vice.

He made me one for my 396. Works for the 696 as well. Very comfortable.

I see wyatt earp is banned. Did they mean to say wyatt "Burp" as this is a very old 5 year thread. Is wyatt burp still with us? Are/were these the same two guys? Reason I ask is I thought wyatt Burp built his own holsters and it doesnt seem he would be buying someone else`s.
