I bought a new 625 MG in .45 ACP to carry. I've come to really dislike the factory grips and would like to go with wood. I prefer an open backstrap. I've been out of the grip market for a long time and am looking for suggestions.

Any recommendations?

Eagle grips

Craig Spegel BOOT GRIPS are the most concealable. I had them on my 629 MG.
The .44 Mag recoil was too much, so I replaced them with larger stocks for field use, but on a .45ACP they should work great.

I just put a set of Ahrends on my 629MG that I bought off the forum and I like them a lot,they are round butt finger groove w/open back like you want,

I use Altamont magna style grips. They're the same grips S&W is putting on the so called "Registered Magnums" of late, and I do CCW my 5" 629.

Yes, whenever I can. I've been layed off since the end of November and that gun (and usually at least two others) has been with me 24/7.

I'll second the Ahrends -- I also have a set on my 629MG. Look great, carry great, and handle the recoil as good as any.

Not a MG, but the same size. 22-4 Thunder Ranch with Eagle grips.

I have a 3 inch 657 that I CCW.
I found a set of small "service grips wooden for "N" frame. I put it on the gun and took it and my old Pachamyer grips to the range. I COULD NOT HIT THE BROAD SIDE OF A BARN DOOR with the small grips. I put the larger Pachamyer back on!!!

Here is two sets of Spegel stocks and set of Ahrends. I like both but the Spegel's outclass the Ahrends. Lots of people prefer the shape of the Ahrends though. Can't go wrong with either.

Here's my mod 25 mtn gun with ahrend fingergroove boot grips.

I prefer Badger grips

I like the morado style grips from early 90's

Sir, Ajax magnas are about as slender as you can get without going to the old service style grips. Not the best choice for guys with big hands/long fingers, but they suit my stubby mitts pretty well.

The pictured grips are ivory micarta, but they have also wood laminates in the same size. I added the skateboard tape because the micarta is very slick--hard to keep a consistent grip in double-action.



I also have a cut-down set of Herrett's Shooting Stars that work fairly well. I'll post a pic if I can find them.

Sometimes it's a hard choice as to which to put in my pocket and which to put in a holster.

Kim Ahrends RB finger groove combats

The Ahrends are indeed top drawer for this but don't ignore the Hogue-made Miculeks. The very rounded butt end doesn't show as much as many others and they're only a fraction longer.
Plus, they come in a square-butt model to smooth out the shirt bump of that Highway Patrolman pretty nicely.

I love your revolvers Wyatt, I have a 629 Mountain gun also. I had a set of Ahrends Square to round combats, but I really like the grips yours are wearing. I'm thinking about the silver-black stratabond or diamondwood as a color for it.

I recently replaced the Ahrends that came on my 325 with Eagle boot grips. Ordered them off the S&W site, checkered for 55 bucks! Not to shabby.

What size grips you have depends on what you shoot best with.
I have a 657 that I got a small grip for and cound not hit the broad side of a barn door with it. I went back to the Pachamyer and the group size went back down.
