Tennessee lifetime carry permit
I had not even heard this was going on, and now it's law as of last week. I guess the antis have given up here in Tenn as there wasn't even a peep of fuss about it.
$500 for a lifetime carry permit is pretty steep (shouldn't even need a carry permit but that's a debate for another forum) but what the heck, at least I won't forget to renew.

I just renewed my Tennessee Carry Permit and saw that was an option. $500 is indeed steep and I'm old enough to know that if the regular five year renewal is $62.50 I'll be wasting some money because it would take forty years to catch up. In forty years I'll be 100.

Texas sort of has that now. Your third renewal is your last. Don't have to do anything beyond that, other than to pay the fee every 5 years, $35 for me (Senior Citizens bet a break). None of the phony baloney refresher courses, range qualifications, etc. And starting next year (probably) the same permit covers both concealed and open carry. But I wont be doing any open carry. Only the idiots will do that. Why make yourself a target?

Just because someone chooses to open carry doesn't make that person an idiot.
And it doesn't make them an idiot (or a target) just because you call them one.

Not much of a savings there, huh?
I look at this sort of like the lottery; a tax on people who can't do math.

I figure its a huge scam. I got a feeling we'll be Constitutional carry in a few more years.

Life time carry permit, kool beans for the young folks...

The next time I renew mine I'll be 30. We have to renew every 5 years and right now it costs $20 to renew. Assuming I carry until I'm 80, that means I would have 50 more years of carrying when I renew. This means I have to renew 10 more times, and at $20 to renew each time, it would cost me $200 (assuming nothing changes). I love PA.

Here in NM, our renewal is $75 for 4 yrs. $500 would be a deal for the younger guys.

$500 would be a steal for us in Illinois. Might even be a good deal just the fact you don't have to worry about missing renewing every 5 years and the hassle doing that in Tennessee . Costs are $150 for resident for 5 years and $300 for non-resident for 5 years here in Illinois.

Several years ago Indiana changed the permit law to allow permit
holders to upgrade to a lifetime license at renewal time. The fee had
been $25 for a four year license. The state was looking for various
ways to raise cash so they came up with the lifetime permit idea. A
fee of $100 at renewal time granted the holder a lifetime license. As
I recall it barely made the newspapers with only a few weak protests
from the usual anti groups.
