Default Model 37...3" brl...for concealed carry...

I'm trying to set up my old beater Model 37 3" barrel for occasional concealed carry...
I tried the factory wood...my knuckle still hurts from the recoil...
I tried Pachmayr Grippers...comfortable to shoot...but too big for IWB carry...

The question is:
Would a Tyler T-Grip and factory wood solve the knuckle-busting recoil and concealed carry issue?...

Any insights appreciated...

Kapuna

I believe you are talking about the back of the trigger guard hitting your finger/knuckle when you fire the gun.

If so, I have found that the Tyler T does stop that, at least in my case.

Are you using +P ammo? if so, you might be more comfortable with standard velocity rounds.

I use Federal Nyclads in my lightweight snubbies, with no problems.

For my hand size, with square butt factory Magnas, the Tyler solves it.

Pachs come in different sizes/varieties, as do Hogue grips. You could always try a diffrerent style.

Factory grips plus a Tyler T should be fine. If not -- or if you prefer rubber -- the Uncle Mike's boot grip is what I have on 2 j-frames. They give you a sloid grip and are very compact.

I also have an old Model 37. When yours and mine were produced they were not recommended by S&W for +P loads. I would be very cautious about using +P in that revolver.

Default S&W 686-6 Talo hurts my middle finger knuckle

Went to the range today for 1st time with new 686 3". I own six handguns and this gun is so accurate I was really stunned. BUT..the back of the trigger guard is bruising my middle finger knuckle. Has anyone had this problem with 686 and solved it? BTW, I am left-handed, but that shouldn't make a difference since the grip seems symmetrical.

A call to Keith Brown solved my problem....

And I've been happy ever since.

I have a 3" M37 square butt also.

I don't use +P and find the stock grip works just fine with my size hands (medium). No Tyler T needed.

You don't have a lot of choice of grips available with a square butt J frame.

Pachmayr Compac grips are an option.

Also, some of the Thai made wood grips on ebay work with a square butt.

Some of those Thai grips are quite nice looking.

Dave

Some good old wad cutters will solve the problem every time, and you can still minimize for CC with the factory grips. I've got them in my wife's new Airweight. Even standard pressure loads were busting up my knuckles with that gun, and I've been shooting for over 50 years. I don't want my wife firing one shot and then throwing the gun down because it's hurting her more than her target. A wad cutter will cause minimal impact to her hand and, hopefully, adequate impact to her target. . .especially after two or three hits.
