Default CC in hotel bar! Oops!

Attending an auction in a hotel-Albuquerque, during a break went with a few friends to the adjoining bar. I didn't realize immediately upon entering and ordering a draft that I was armed: SS pocket...In NM, like probably many states, it's illegal to carry where liquor is sold by the drink.
I'll tell you what I did later.

I'm in Nevada. I'd enjoy the beverage. Perfectly legal in Nevada.

I'm in Kentucky. I'd enjoy the beverage. Perfectly ILLEGAL in Kentucky, but the damage is already done at that point. Don't let the beer go to waste, that's another crime.

I don't generally forget whether I have a gun on me or not. I have gone into places armed and not realized until I sat down and ordered food that they also served beer. In VA this is illegal, since if alcohol is sold by the glass, you're allowed to open carry, but not carry concealed.

Carry enough gun. You won't forget it's there. That's my opinion. take it or leave it. I wouldn't go in the bar, but if I did, I would be cool, quiet and definately not drink.

Appreciate the voting & replies. Feeling uneasy about the situation, I knew I couldn't enjoy the beer or conversation; excused myself for a few minutes to the vehicle & back. To be honest, I felt a little naked w/o it thinking this is probably the place I'd need it the most...Didn't realize until the replies how many states are so inclined...

Eh.... He's gray here in KY...

Depends I suppose on whether the bar is owned by the hotel. If so, I'd imagine that the hotel gets over 75% of it's revenue from something other than alcohol sales. In that instance, then you're fine.

Ummm so? It's called concealed carry for a reason, if it's well hidden no one will know but you. I've carried for years, I'm a realist. I carry everywhere I go and if there's some place I can't get by with it, I don't go there. I've carried into places where booze are being served and the CCW faeries didn't carry me off, lighten up.

I don't carry, I don't drink and I certainly would never spend time in a saloon!

Clarification of my "no big deal" initial reply. Wasn't speaking of the OP's predicament...was replying based on fact there is no such prohibition in Maryland.

But, like GF, I don't forget when I am armed and do wonder how some folks apparently do.

Be safe.

Very gray. The bar is most likely operated as a separate business from the hotel. In that instance, it depends if it is an actual bar or a restaurant that serves alcohol. If it's the latter, it's probably perfectly fine to carry. If it's an actual bar, as assumed, I'd drink the beer and then visit my vehicle.

I normally dont drink in bars but on occaision have one (1) with the group.

Were you a registered guest of the hotel? If so, you might have a reasonably good argument that you are enjoying the facilities of your temporary domicile.

It is best not to test the law, especially when you are away from home or in another state. Who wants to be booked, have to post bail, have to return for court proceedings, etc? That is a no-win situation.

I think you did the best thing possible under the circumstances.

Fixed it for me, too. Outside MA , I try very hard not to go where I'm not supposed to. If I can't avoid it, I don't worry about it. Even in MA, I don't generally drink while carrying. The law appears not to be specific on what is carrying while under the influence, and I can't think of any really good reason to be finding out, particularly the hard way.

It is easy to forget you are carrying a pistol when you are old. You can't remember anything. Larry

None of the above.

I never drink while carrying or while in possession of a loaded firearm.

I voted excuse yourself but I live in Florida and you violated state law by entering the bar area. Could you get away with it, probably. However, if caught your legal carrying days are over.

It's truely sad that law abiding citizens who carry legally have to worry about things like this when the criminals who would blatenly disobey the laws regarding no weapons allowed would be the ones they'd need the protection from once disarmed. If you can't handle your liquor you shouldn't be drinking in the first place. There's no need for your gun to come out unless you fear death or grave bodily injury. At that point the law will be the least of your worries. Drink and CCW responsibly.

Can't carry in a bar in Washington State either. It is what it is, so I don't worry or get upset about it.
