Since I'm the "resident gunny guy, gun expert, blah, blah, blah", I'm always being asked to take a look at some guns that just came out of somebody's grandmother's attic. Ok? Now's here what I have.

My across the street neighbor's father-in-law just had to move his sister to a nursing home and he was just taking care of some things around her house. He found a pair a guns, one is a Colt Offical Police, 6" fixed sights with kind of funky yellow plastic grips. It is in .22.

I would say they gun is in good minus condition, and to top it off, the front sight has been painted day glow pink with what looks like plastic model paint. It is very dirty and has just some spots of rust. It has not been taken care of. Also the little "knob" the screws on to the front of the ejector knob is missing.

The other is a semi-auto Savage .22 rifle with a tublar magazine marked "6B" as a model number. It has the "patina" of a well used old rifle, but no abuse. The stock is walnut, similar condition but no cracks and would finish up real nice.

The rifle is typical of what you would find on the $125.00 display rack at a gun show. Latter I will tear it down and look inside.

Got any views on what I've found here? The fellow obviously wants to know what they are worth.

With my various price guides, I'm guessing $125.00 for the collector that is looking for that rifle or $75.00 for the schmuck that just wants an old, shooter, .22?

For the Colt Offical Police, my guess is maybe $200 to $250. It needs some TLC, but locks up real nice, good crane and cylinder lock up and movement.

I'm guessing you're pretty close with your estimates. Probably $75 - 125 for the rifle and maybe, $150 - 250 for the handgun, depending on how bad it is. It's really hard to estimate the handgun without pictures.

Of course, dealer prices may be different. What a gun is worth, and what a dealer will pay, are two different things. I think a dealer might pay $35 - 65 depending on condition for the rifle. The handgun might go for $50 - 150 from a dealer, again depending on condition.

2. It's ALL small stuff.

I don't have a price guide in front of me, but did you take into account subtracting for the non original grips and missing part on the Colt? Put it on Auction Arms or Gunbroker and someone will pay 250 for anything with a horsey on it though...

The Savage Model 6 variants were made for three decades. $125 is high for a ^b unless it is in like new condition/very excellent which precludes has the "patina" of a well used old rifle".

Charlie, if they want to sell the Colt, and you aren't interested, shoot me an e-mail. I can pay cash FTF if the price is reasonable. Wink
