Jim Shugart posted a good picture of the Virginia Flag in another thread. Let's take a look at all the states' flags.

Everyone remembers the big controversy about the GA Flag a few years back. While the Battle Flag (St. Andrew's Cross) doesn't have the bad connotations to me, I can understand that it may have those meanings for someone else. What upset me was the flag that replaced it for a couple of years. It was a blue abomination that violated the United States Flag Code, because it had a smaller depiction of the American Flag on it.

Our current flag is very attractive. It is a version of The Stars and Bars, or the First National Flag of the Confederacy:
Stars and Bars

You might recognize that flag as Andy Griffith's avatar. Many people mistakenly refer to the Battle Flag as The Stars and Bars.

The only difference between the Stars and Bars and our current GA flag is that the field with seven stars representing the first seven states to secede is replaced by a field with the State Seal and thirteen stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies.

I love our State Flag and fly it proudly along with The Stars and Stripes.

Let's see your state flag and a little history, if possible.

Well, here it is again:

"A deep blue field contains the seal of Virginia with the Latin motto " Sic Semper Tyrannis" - "Thus Always to Tyrants". Adopted in 1776. The two figures are acting out the meaning of the motto. Both are dressed as warriors. The woman, Virtue, represents Virginia. The man holding a scourge and chain shows that he is a tyrant." His fallen crown is nearby. LINK

A hottie with her left boob hanging out with a sword, a spear, and her foot on a dead guy who I think looks a lot like Chuckie Schumer.

There's a story (maybe not true) that a kid got suspended from a Virginia school for wearing a NRA T-shirt to school with guns (gasp!) on it. The parents sued. Just before ruling for them, the judge said, "Ya'll might want to examine the flag flying over your school when you go back". Big Grin

The flags of my birth (and always home) state of Texas, and my current (and probably final) state of NC bear enough similarity... to always make me feel at home.

Arizona's state flag adopted in 1917 - is the former state rifle team's flag, first made up by Nancy Hayden, wife of the Team's Captain, Col. Harris.

It is the ONLY state flag made by, and carried by a formal shooting team.

13 rays of the sun in red and yellow, over a half-field of blue, with a five-pointed copper (NEVER golden) star in the center.

The only green flag and the only one with a picture of a President. The state seal stuck on a green background.

The Oregon State flag is the only flag to have different images on front and back.

The Illinois state flag, with the Great Seal of Illinois on a white background. I always thought it was way too busy, lacking the simple elegance of most of the former Confederacy's flags.

I didn't know anyone actually noticed! Wink Big Grin

Most people haven't got a clue...even with all the "hub-bub" about the flag as to it's history and where it came from. Completely oblivious! It's a shame too!

Georgia history used to be mandatory in the 6th grade...I don't think it is today...I'm certain it would be "too political." Frowner
