I have two U.S.10in.bayonets,# 1 is marked Pal,and has a 5/8 in ring,and fits the M1,O3,etc.
#2 10in.marked AFH,U.S.has the flaming bomb,it has 7/8 in.ring & #5504139 on the other side,the ring is two large to fit the M1,03.,
any idea what it goes on?

I read that the Italians put a new guard with a larger ring on US M1 bayonets to fit on the BM59 rifle. I'm guessing that's what you have.

The new guard made it easier to slice their rations of genoa salami without cutting their fingers...also, when they surrendered, the new mount made it easier to stick the rifle into the ground, since throwing them down was cracking the stocks which upset the German soldiers who were into collecting captured arms...true story...I read it on Snopino.

BTW, "AFH" = "American Fork & Hoe". (IE, Fork = Pitchfork; the company was a peace-time maker of farm tools).
