I'll post pics as soon as I can get them, but can anyone tell me anything about this 6-shot revolver? A co-worker said it was his Grandfather's and that's pretty much all he knows. The serial numbers first 3 digits are 322***.

Called a Police Positive Special. Longer cylinder and frame than a Police Positive.
A D frame revolver essentially like a Colt Detective Special. I have one from 1953 with a 4" barrel, but available in several barrel lengths. Nice little revolvers. |

These little Colt revolvers keep sprouting here on the Forum like mushrooms. Looking forward to the photos.

Mickey, his looks just like yours. He left for a meeting so I still haven't been able to take a picture yet.

This statement would raise eyebrows anywhere but on a gun forum! Just funnin' with you Dixie. BTW, you haven't mentioned what he is asking for it. I have only one D-frame Colt, and it is a great little shooter. Good luck with this one, and at the risk of sounding weird, we need to see pictures! Well I tried taking pics with the camera we have here at work but since it SUCKS, I'll try with my own camera tomorrow.
He didn't mention that he wanted to sell it. He just said he knew I was interested in guns and thought I might be able to find out some background info on it. He definitely needs to clean it real good though. |

Thanks for the photos. Looks like a pretty nice revolver. Much better than one that I have from around the same year. The grips appear to be whole and in good condition. All it requires is a careful cleaning and some protection for its surfaces. Do you have an opportunity to purchase it?

Other than minor surface scratches, it looks to be in pretty good shape.
Here is what the "Blue book" says for a police positive special: 100% - $800 98% - $650 95% - $450 90% - $325 80% - $300 70% - $275 60% - $250 50% - $225 40% - $200 30% - $185 20% - $170 10% - $155 Now you just need to check out the mechanics, the bore condition, how much surface damage there is etc., to determine what percentage category it falls in. Also, the BB prices are often a bit low. He hasn't acted as if he wants to sell it yet. I just let him read ya'lls comments and now he wants me to take it to the range and shoot it. Told him I'd have the gunsmith there clean it first, tell me what condition he considers it to be in, then I might shoot it for him. Then he handed me the 6 rounds he took out of it. He said they've been in the gun since at least 1965 when his grandfather died. Is ammo that old safe to shoot?? |
