Dave Olhasso Has Big Weekend At 2008 Speed On Steel Championships

SEDRO-WOOLEY, WA — David Olhasso had a big weekend at the World Class Steel’s Speed On Steel Championships which were held June 13-14 at the Old Bridge Rifle & Pistol Club in Old Bridge New Jersey. Olhasso captured two revolver Speed Shooting titles as well as posting a second and third place finish at a match billed as the Northeast Regional event in the Smith & Wesson Steel Shoot Series.

“Dave had a terrific match winning both the Open Revolver and Iron Revolver title as well as finishing second in the Open Pistol division and third in the Iron Pistol division. With such a strong field of competitors, it’s hard enough to win one title, let alone two. This was simply Dave’s weekend and we’re glad it happened on his home range,” said John Soltesz, the Speed On Steel Match Director.

In the Open Revolver division, Olhasso won in a time of 86.60 seconds, outpacing his competitors on all but one of the seven stages. Paul Dandini, who won the Open Rimfire title, finished second shooting the match in 105.44 seconds. Close behind in third was Peter Enis with a time of 105.73 seconds. Finishing fourth and fifth in a close battle were Scott Hubert and Bob Barry who shot the match in 115.82 and 115.95 seconds respectively.

In the Iron Revolver division Olhasso won all seven stages with a match time of 100.92 seconds handily beating his nearest competitor by more than 88 seconds.

The World Class Steel 2008 Speed On Steel Championships is one of the premier competitions in the sport of Speed Shooting which is governed by the Steel Challenge Shooting Association (SCSA). Both professional and amateur shooters competed for their share of over $30,000 in cash and prizes. Shooters faced seven courses of fire and the clock in the two-day event.

Courses of fire, or stages, are made up of five steel targets which are electronically timed to one one-hundredth of a second. Competitors shoot each stage five times with their slowest run eliminated. The combined time of the best runs is their score for that stage and their combined score of all seven stages is their match score.

Championships were determined in the Rimfire Iron, Rimfire Open, Revolver Iron, Revolver Open, Compact Iron, Pistol Iron and Pistol Open divisions. A Ladies Overall champion will also be crowned.
