A member has suggested that I impose a rule that a sale would require an "I'll take it" posted in the ad. This is a very good idea, since it would eliminate most of their crap, and it would also allow us to out them on the screen name(s) they're currently using. It would also help us identify any member in the forum who is assisting these unethical nimrods in their efforts.

Now, do we really want such a rule, guys?

Know who you are dealing with and there shouldn't be any problem.

I vary rarely used the classifieds to buy or to sell, so it really doesn't effect me. I support you in any decision you make in this matter.

Thanks. I'm considering it. The trick is to find a balance between frustrating the Fumigate's efforts and imposing new rules on members.

Since one already has to be a member of the forum to access Classifieds, and since one would necessarily already be viewing an ad in order to decide that they want an item, it will likely be a rule we impose. I see no reason why a member, already logged in (again, by necessity), couldn't post an "I'll take it" in an ad.
However, I'm sure some members would rather make most or all of their purchases discreetly, and I understand this viewpoint.

Parabellum and Machtech:

With all due respect, many gun buyers today don't want the information of what they bought posted on a public forum. Privacy is a very important issue.

I can see the issue both ways, but lean towards privacy.

I should have figured out that Fugotti was Fugate Firearms, but Matt didn't even include his name in his e-mails, and I didn't know who he was until after I agreed to sell it, agreed on a price, and then got his FFL in the mail with payment. But by then, I had already said I would sell it to them. I'll be more careful about it in the future, for sure.

Machtech: I was going to e-mail you this morning and warn you. You are the forum member Matt said he would try to sell it to if I didn't agree to buy it back on his terms.

Did I, or did I not acknowledge this in my last post and say I understand this viewpoint? BUFF, consider yourself fortunate being able to still post, so I'd go easy on the advice right now, were I you.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings in the least. I wouldn't sell anything to someone that didn't post an "I'll take it!"

And I would hope that any buyer of my posted stuff would post that it was "as advertised" or "not as advertised" after they had received it.
Only the fair and right thing to do.

Any decisions made by you, Parabellum, are fine with me. Your house, your rules.

My vote would be for a rule requiring "I'll take it" to be posted in the classified and seller required to honor the first post. Really would simplify a lot of the process.

Thank you. All here should be mindful that these threads, and our efforts in this regard, have one primary purpose; to frustrate the efforts of a pair of unethical nitwits, by informing the members of their attitude and activities, and by ensuring that all here know that those who willingly transact business with the Fumigates will be removed from the forum.

Your gun, your business. My forum, my business.

In my opinion, it's simple.

1st guy to post "I'll take it" on the thread gets it, period. This would eliminate any "Non members" from buying guns here unless they want to give up their identity. Also, it will eliminate any fueds about "Who got it first", email or post on the thread???

Its a win, win solution to me, IMHO Big Grin

I'm new here and so I'll say upfront that I should probably go easy on my opinions. I think that there should be a provision for rating mambers on transactions mad through the forums here like you have at the auction sites.

I'm also a member of the FALFILES and there is a rating system there.

I understand that the impediment is that more storage space on the server, more bandwidth is required. But the benefits are obvious.

I've made one inquiry and one purchase so far in the 2 weeks I've been a member and in my initial emails on both cases gave my screen names at EBAY AUCTIONARMS AND GUNBROKER so that people who I deal with can have a comfort level in dealing with me.

Just a thought FWIW.

I think that Para's prospective rule change is a good idea and will eliminate a lot of aggravation for the members and create some aggravation for the Fugates.

If I see something I want; I'll email the the Seller first and then Post the "I'll take it." on the Forum. So far I've not missed any goodies this way but I have had at least one minor "issue" that came up because of someone else doing the same thing. I had already replied to the first incoming email before the first "I'll take it" Post showed up on the Forum. It looks like if this Policy is put into place then everybody needs to made very much aware of this is the way it will happen.

It could have gotten pretty ugly but both of the individuals were gentleman about the whole deal - I tossed a coin!
