IMHO,
If anyone is THAT worried about privacy, why are they buying anything over the internet? If Big Brother wants to know something, your emails aren't safe.
"I'll take it" posted to the ad, followed by an email (or else it's not a sale) would save a lot of fuss and bother.

I'll have to agree that you should have to post an "I'll Take It" in the forum prior to sending email to cut down on the confusion. I also believe that a seller should be required to post sold or sold pending funds in the title of the post once there is a deal on the table.

Personally I like the idea of having to post the "I'll take it". That eliminates that bad feeling when you get a reply that someone had already emailed saying they wanted it. This way you would immediatly (and happily) know that you were unequivocably first in buying the piece without any reservation. I'm just a very small piece in a very large puzzle but I would have no problem with it. I'm thankful for the privelage of the classifide section. It has made me very happy in the past.

I think the rule should be standard procedure. I posted one for sale not long ago and stated in the ad that if a buyer was not willing to post "I'll take it" in the thread, not to email me offering and expecting a sale. Keeps the Fugmates at bay . . . Wink

and while a post of "next in line" is acceptable (I've done it myself), a private email of an offer to buy at a higher price after it's sold should be specifically forbidden lest we find ourselves with another Fugate.

Since one already has to be a member of the forum to access Classifieds, and since one would necessarily already be viewing an ad in order to decide that they want an item, it will likely be a rule we impose. I see no reason why a member, already logged in (again, by necessity), couldn't post an "I'll take it" in an ad.
However, I'm sure some members would rather make most or all of their purchases discreetly, and I understand this viewpoint.

Playing devils advocat here, so bear with me.

Lets say a fellow has something listed on more than one internet forum. Lets say he gets an email from someone through another forum, maybe they are both members here as well, and makes an agreement with that person and by the time he gets here to mark the item sold there is an I'll take it. Now what??

Para, I respect what you are trying to do, dont take this wrong, but to impose another rule has the potential to make buying and selling between good forum members more hassle than its worth. Moreover, its gonna be dang near impossible to enforce.

I suggest we, the good forum members, step up our own diligence and include a not for sale to the Fugates or their agents line in any of our for sale ads. We need to keep this topic alive and educate every one as to the importance of shunning these guys, as far as this forum is concerned. Spread the word far and wide and if someone decides to sell to the Fudgegates after listing an item here, toss em. If you suspect the Fudgegates are contacting you, ask them. This is your house, you own it....but its our house too in a way. So we should take responsibility to keep it clean, as much as we expect you to keep it clean. You keep the power on, we'll pick up the trash and vacume.

But, as said before, whatever you decide I will abide by, just throwing out something for us all to think on.

Anyone who backs out a deal with a buyer, simply because someone else offered them more money is an unethical jerk in my book, and I don't want anyone like that around here.
I don't know, guys, maybe it's silly of me to expect a man to honor a made deal. Crazy, huh? Roll Eyes

And people like those nitwit Fumigate brothers, making such offers to break a deal, are no better. That's low. How do you think people like this act in situations where it's a choice between more money, and their word? Do you really want to deal with people like that? No thanks.

That can be remedied as well. List it exclusively with us, or don't list it on this board.

I beg to differ.

Hmmmm, that is one approach. I was hoping it not to come to that extreme. But if it must I would abide.

I would think we, as the membership, could do better at policing ourselves.

Would you consider adding your warning about dealing with them in the classifieds rules sticky?? It should be there IMO.

Do I hear you volunteering for the position of standard bearer for this crusade?

Well, if it needs one. This place has helped me and entertained me immensely, so if this forum needs a standard bearer, sure sign me up.

Why should we reap the benefits and expect you and a moderator or two to do all the dirty work? I doubt we pay you good enough to justify the hassles of this place, so I suggest "we" step it up. Whatever you require of me, let me know.

Well, if you have any suggestions as to how this could be handled through self-policing, I'm all ears. Yes, the warning about selling to the Fumigates needs to be included in the Rules for Classifieds.

What do you suggest beyond that?

I would be happy with a post it here only rule and first "I'll take it" gets it. I always post here first and if something don't sell after a reasonable time, go some place else. I feel this forum should get first shot.

I noticed a WTB listing over on the Colt forum classifieds posted by Matt Fugate aka "Fugotti".
Does the Colt Forum also fall under the domain of Parabellum?
