....so then.....is TWICE a 'good deal' a REALLY good deal or something else???

There are only two types of pain in this life: The pain of discipline, or the pain of regret.
The pain of discipline weighs pounds.
The pain of regret weighs tons.

That would explain how I ended up with two six-inch Model 57s in the same week... I figured I'd get outbid on one of them, but no! At least I did get outbid on the third one!!!

Sure, I have won more items on GB than I really needed, but my pockets are deep enough to cover what I win. The few times I was on the verge of wining something that I really did not want, someone came along and outbid me.

I learned a valuable lesson about last minute bidding on eVilBay when I bid a maximum of $250 bucks for a pair of grips I wanted instead of the $25 I intended . . . turned out OK as I got them for less than even $25, but I had to laugh at my stupid self for typing in that "0" and the ensuing panic when I saw what I had submitted. Eeker Razzer It only lasted a few seconds until the auction ended but the old blood pressure did spike a few points . . . Big Grin

$1900 really isn't that much money.

Yea but I had just done the same thing the night before Gustave hit-was drinking and posting and in between I put in bids on not one but two Eeker model 27's with 3.5" bbls. The one I really wanted (LNIB Nickel) got sniped out from under me during the storm when I was without power-I got the other one (a pretty blued one) so all was not lost- I had to pay an extra 10 spot cause Bean bid me up though(got'cha Eileen) Razzer

I have several times made bids on GB or AA (yes sometimes booze was involved) and almost instantly said to myself WHY in the hell did I do that!?

Happily, I have always been outbid.

Now I don't feel so bad about buying my 99th holster for a Colt S/A on ebay....."jes cause it looks cool!"

I like only two brands of double-actions, "Smith" and "Wesson".

[There's some nice Colts too!]

Why do you think they have free booze at Duck's Unlimited and Wild Turkey Federation banquets ?
I was at a Turkey Federation banquet several years ago and they were calling out raffle ticket numbers. Nobody claimed several of them. I looked over at a guy seated near me. He was passed out and had a stack of raffle tickets sitting in front of him as thick as a deck of playing cards.

I've done it on nights when I can't sleep. A little Vicodin eases the pain, but it also loosens up my wallet.

Friday night and the second bottle of wine is how we ended up with a 1950 Packard. Fortunately my wife was at the keyboard at the time when her "joke" bid ended up hitting the reserve. Like others here, I sweated and prayed for many days hoping for an outbid which never came, so I swallowed hard and ponied up the cash. In hindsight it was pretty dumb to spend thousands of dollars to avoid a negative feedback on a bidder name I rarely used then and no longer have. Sold the car two years ago for about half of what I had into it and was thrilled to get it.

Even though we were experienced Ebayers at the time, we subsequently found out how easy it is to retract a bid when that happened on one of our listings. One day the item is sold and the next day it's not. EBay has a fairly lenient retraction policy; just go pull your bid and say you made a "mistake". At this point I don't even think it matters if the auction has closed since Sellers can no longer post negative feedback against Bidders at all.
