This is just a poem I wrote....inspired by time spent at/on the wabash river. Smiler

~Reflection~
(A poem about the Wabash)

I gaze at the reflections on the water
And know that there is so much more
Than what is seen on the surface.

At most points she is rapidly moving,
In a rush to get where she is going.
Other times she finds hiding spots.
Churning by the bank, waiting for the right moment to go.

Everything throughout her existence has
Paved the way for who she is.
From the glaciers of her past to the fallen trees in the present,
She is always molding to her surroundings.

Constantly adapting.

Her surface shows many things.
Beauty. Persistence. Tranquility. Courage. Lessons. Stories. Triumph.
But her murky cover keeps her secrets.
Hides what she doesnt want discovered easily.

All around her, Life flourishes.
She nurtures and nourishes and develops.
From flora and fauna that lap at her edges,
To the life that thrives Inside of her..
She provides life with what it needs.

She can also be unforgiving.
Destroying what lies in her path.
One angry, rising swoop and she
Takes back what she has given.

They named her Pure Light,
But she has seen many tragedies in her life.
Tainted by blood shed and war,
Still washing away the sins of those shedding blood.

Flowing Unconditionally.

She is strong and reliable.
Her current is swift and will carry you as far as she goes.
When you have reached the end of that trail,
She becomes something more.

Always Changing.
But having the strength to choose her path.

In the moons shine,
Her insides come alive.
Surfacing to feed off the beam,
Mingling with the reflection of night sky.

She stays true to her path,
And easily ripples past what stands in her way.
Endless waves flowing past her obstacles.
Always getting by.

Facing her struggles and tests of will and strength,
I found myself.

I gaze onto the surface,
Knowing already what lies beneath.
Because in the reflections dancing on her surface,
I see me.
