Has there been a rash of officer shootings by pregnant soldiers? |

She sounds downright suspicious to me...pregnant, arm in a sling, proper stickers, no ID and a couple of miles over the speed limit. IMHO, she's durn lucky they didn't shoot her and ask questions later.
I know I'll sleep better tonight knowing those two MPs were strutting their stuff! PS. I bet she's a "HOTTIE" and they were just impressing her, maybe even trying to pick her up. "Gun control is a steady hand." - Fred 1967-71 SSGT (E-5) USAF Tactical Air Command 67th Combat Support Group |

I have been told by a police officer in Virginia that when they run a driver's license when the check comes back they are notified if the driver has a CCW. This particular officer suggested that I present my CCW with my driver's license so that there was no surprise. Maybe the CCW notification also happens when they run a license plate.
Is she allowed to have a personal firearm on base? Doesn't really explain WHY they acted the way they did, but might give you some clue as to their justification for it. |

They probably heard about you, and being from Michigan and Wisconsin both is a dangerous thing sometimes.
Besides being a former 11B I really have a case of the A** at MPs anyway. Stan |

There is some new OCR scanning software that interfaces with onboard cameras. This stuff is intended for LEO use (obviously).
It is possible it is being implemented on your base. As it is brand new, the troops still do not know what to do with the info. They may have the filters set to known felons, stolen cars and ccw holders. When they got a hit (your wife's tag) they got all excited and flustered. Once they stopped her, the training manual for the new camera software was useless, and they had to think on their feet. OTOH, they may have just wanted to talk to her and see if she was recently divorced and lonely........... |

The Military Police are soldiers with MOS specific training. They can make terrible errors-an MP Specialist has the same judgement as an Infantry Specialist. If you are stopped by MPs with very little experience they may be apprehensive, nervous, worried and so on. Like any young soldier the MP may be very reluctant to get hold of a supervisor. The majority do a wonderful job. If you think they have done something haywire then go to the Provost Marshalls office and talk to one of their officers. Oh, and keep in mind that the Provost works for the Post Commander-so you can always contact that office. Whats is neat about MPs is that they fall under the same regulations as the rest of the soldiers. All Officers and NCOs are authorized to apprehend other soldiers who are violating the UCMJ.

When we visited the base in Norfolk, we were told that concealed weapons were not permitted on base. It could be that they ran her plate, it came back that she has a permit, and so they wanted to be absolutely sure she was not in violation of post rules.

I have been told that concealed carry on Base is only allowed to be done by On-Duty MP's and CID personnel. I'm guessing that the "auto plate running software" came up with the fact that your Bride has a concealed permit. Our State DOL and the CPL agency don't talk to each other; maybe your State is different. Maybe this was the first time these guys got a "hit" after running a plate and were a bit over jealous. You need to remember this is the New Army and they are part of our Countries UN-Armed Services.

Seems to me, there is a lot of downside to a CCW. "What does not kill us makes us stronger." Hunting with my Nikon D300/D700. Here is my website, photographs of hawks, eagles, etc. http://www.heisingart.com Fritz |

I'm still mulling that one over. ** Never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress. ** |

Your about to be mugged by 2 criminals and you pull out your gun and either shoot them or put a stop to the assault without having to fire a shot to save your and your families lives. Now what is the downside? To hell with the other little inconveniences the main thing is you have a way to protect yourself whereas otherwise you would be killed with your cell phone in your hand dialing 911. Smitty |

From the net:
"In addition to state restrictions, federal law prohibits carrying on military bases, in national parks and the sterile area of airports. National forests usually follow laws of the states in which they are located." Source: http://www.enotes.com/everyday-law-encyclopedia/firearm-laws Also, FWIW, in Texas a CHL (CCW) holder is required to present his CHL if asked for identification by any peace officer.. ...We Don't Rent Pigs... |
