I just hit 3000, this post will make 3001 as soon as I click "post now", proof positive that if you knew me in person you'd get sick of listening to me talk from time to time.
This is a Mitchell 300 reel, if you've been fishing for any length of time you probably are familiar with these. Wink One of my best fishing buddies who has one of these I rebuilt for him says that fishing with one of these is kind of like driving a 57 Chevy while you fish, a fair and apt description of the Mitchell 300. Is there anyone here that doesn't know this is the worlds original spinning reel? or that it is all metal, and set the toughness standards by which all other spinning reels have to match up to? A couple of times over the years, while walking the Salmon river in the Pulaski NY area, I've heard the distinct sound of one of these clicking away, while out of sight around a bend from the person using it, pretty amazing to be able to ID what reel someone is using before you even see them.
I buy these when I can, and strip them down, clean, repair if needed, and regrease them all up as I put them back together. Over the last 15 years or so I've reeled in over 100 Kings & Steelhead from that river with my 2 Mitchell's without a problem, so have a couple of other guys I have given one of these to. That includes occasional 30+ pound fish. This reel can handle 30 pound Kings all day long, but I bet I am preaching to the choir here. About a year ago I put this one aside, thinking that maybe i should give one away as a karma. Anyway, next weekend, Sunday July 6th in the afternoon or early evening I will pick the winner. It comes with the spare short spool beside it too, but I don't have the box.
One condition: I want you to fish with it, okay? It is not made for salt water, btw. It will be all nice and clean and ready for years of service when the winner mounts it on a rod.

That is cool, there is something about vintage fishing gear. Don't include me in the drawing though, I'm sure there are folks here that would appreciate it more than me.

Same here. Don't include me. I have a couple of Penn reels that I never get to use.

I just have to say that that is a really nice Karma gift, and I hope that whoever receives it will actually use it.

I'm only 45, but when I was coming up I thought that was the only brand of reel made. It's because of the Mitchell reels that I don't care for the look of skirted spools.

Truly generous of you.

I had one of these for my first spinning reel many moons ago. Please add me to the list, and thanks.

I've not done much fishing in a while, but I feel it in old bones it's about time I set by the side of the lake (no boat Frowner ) and took time off from the TV... I'll do it if I win your very nice Karma. Thanks.
