In some parts of the world chips go really good with pets.

Don't knock it until you've tried it.

If you have a pet sheep, you can have it chipped and dipped.

I have a small scar on the back of my neck, if anyone asks I tell them it's where they removed the alien tracking device.

Both my Dog and Cat have an AVID chip in them. Nothing to it......Our city animal control even provides them at their cost and installs them for free. Why not do it?

So this database is centralized somewhere? What happens when a person moves and their contact info is changed?

Does the chip have your actual contact info on it or is it keyed to a database that has your contact info?

Thanks

How does that work, one time charge for install?

What happens if your pet goes missing, what is the function of the chip. Does it just contain your contact info or can you actually track the animal?

I'm an Irish Setter breeder, all my dogs get chipped. We do the pups with the first set of shots, and when sold the chip# and id gets transfered over to the buyer with us as backup. None of my dogs are going to die in some pound.

It's well worth the small cost. Do it, now.

That right there says it all. My dog's cost $34 for the AVID chip. Compared to other pet expenses $34 is not even worth mentioning!

I can't believe you people.
OK everyone go and get their pet chipped. So what happens when we get an anti pet administration? Here comes the round up. Or more likely than not-someone just presses a button and all the pets explode. NO THANK YOU, I'll take my pets un chipped, just like I take my water un flourided

Caje,

I believe some would call any attempted roundup as "hunting over bait".

I do volunteer work at the local animal shelter. It is a big operation taking in 50 - 100 animals each day. The ones with chips go back to the owners right away as long as the information is kept up to date. If you move or change your telephone number you have to have the information updated in the database. The chip only displays the number of the "account" in the database.

Most animals that come into the shelter are not wearing a collar and don't have a chip. Probably 2/3 of those get euthanized because there are not enough homes for them. If you care about your pet get it chipped. The local shelter is probably the cheapest and best place to get it done.

Back in 1981 we chipped Fluffy the cat. We had not realized Fluffy was sleeping in the bed of our Whisper Chipper when we fired it up to grind up some brush! True story.

Both my setter and rottie wear RFID chips. It was a condition of breed registration and is on most trials dogs. My dachshund is a mutt, but she also is "chipped". It is the only way to ensure she would not be euthanized if lost and turned in to a shelter or country pound.

Your vet can explain RFID chips and advantages way better than a free web forum. If you're serious abut being a pet owner, learn more the right way.

My memory is so bad I had to have myself chipped but then I forgot about it. Now I don't know if I'm chipped or not. Roll Eyes
