I know the USPS is out and I've received thousands of rounds via UPS, but what is the proper (legal) way to ship ammunition as a private sale such as this forums classified forum. I have a huge box of .38 wadcutters and .38 fmj reloads I'd like to sell. I called the local UPS Store and was informed that UPS will only ship ammo from an acknowledged "dealer" or gun store. What happened to ORM D UPS shipping?
Take it to a terminal and if the clerk says no then have them call the ups haz-mat help desk number and they will ship it. I have shipped lot's of ammo even in case lots after calling the haz-mat help desk.

+2 to what Trooperdan and deanodog have posted. The customer counter should have the proper ORM-D stickers, otherwise you can just write it on the package. Identify the contents on your UPS bill as 'small arms cartridges'. I made the mistake one time of stateing 'pistol cartridges' and it started a whole new problem in that they wanted to send it OverNite for big $$ because it said 'Pistol'. I believe all ammo has to go Ground shipment though. You don't need an FFL to send or receive ammo though they may insist on an adult signiture at the receiving end.
How much have you got, what do you want for it and where are you located?

When I figure it all out, I've got about 20 lbs. of .38sp reload wadcutters (500 or so?) and 150-200 .38sp fmj reloads, I'll probably post in the classifieds. Shipping and shipping costs is the problem. I'm in Hartford, CT. I'll figure it out, the shipping that is.
