As of today I have forty years of government service. Three years with DOD and the rest with DOI. Two more years and I will be maxed out for retirement. I could have retired eight years ago but I am just having too much fun.

The biggest weight that was lifted off my shoulders when I retired was the daily commute of 55 miles one-way to San Francisco..and it has been over 2 years since I have been back to the city..doesn't get better than that..congrats and throwaway your wristwatch the day you retire..you will not need it any more..all5x

I live only 10 miles away from work and I also ride my bicycle to Cal-Train and take the train to work. My house is paid for and I just paid off my truck. I am looking forward to retirement so that I can become the old guy that is always hanging around the range.

Congrats.

On your first day at work I was just discovering girls.

What a long strange trip it's been...

EQGuy.
Congratulations on making a career of it. It helps to stay at a good occupation for a long time. That may be a thing of the past. Lots of Dept's and companies don't survive long enough for employees to retire.
My 40 years with DOD comes next month, I can work a few more years and still enjoy the job. I have 4 years of reserve time and that keeps me from having 40 towards retirement. I went to annual EEO training today. Nothing like mandatory gov't training to pass the morning.
I certainly hope you have some good guns and get lots of trigger time at the range. Some extra practice time is always good.

Congrats! For so many reasons, that length of service is unheard of today.
