I do my best, along with voting for representatives that reflect my goals.

Good. Because this nation is chock full of problem finders these days that do nothing or nearly nothing in the way of developing solutions.

What we need is more problem solvers and fewer problem finders.

Which is precisely why I do not fly a flag.

If you do, it must be properly lit if out after sunset. It must still be brought in in inclement whether. It must be replaced when soiled ot tattered. If not displayed overnight, it must be properly folded when it's off the staff.

I see more flags improperly dislayed at homes than properly displayed. If you are going to display a flag, display it right and raise it at the approprate time of day and bring it down at the appropriate time of the day. When not displayed, fold it properly.

Teach by example, Billhud. Some people just don't know. More than not, it is not a show of disrespect....just not all people know the 'rules and regulations'. Your neighbors might see yours, surely flown the correct way, and decide/learn to fly their colors the correct way...its like pay it forward, only with knowledge. Smiler

I've got bigger fish to fry.

BTW, I do teach by example. I do NOT fly the flag for those very reasons I stated I didn't.

"Fix it" entails action much beyond simply spending part of one day in very four years casting a ballot for President.

I understand what you are saying, but "fixing it" feels much like peeing in the ocean to me.

First you have to decide if you actually want to do something. Then what problem(s) for which you'd like to be a part of the solution. Then what orgaization you can assist or develop. Feel free to type "volunteer" into a search engine. Many sites can be of great assistance. It's always much easier to say "there's nothing I can do" than it is to actually do something.

Sir, you are quite inspiring. I may try to find a way I can make a difference in some capacity. It does seem overwhelming, however. Thanks for your answer.

Hopefully mine get's the proper approval as being displayed correctly.

It goes out everyday. Comes in every evening. Banners go out on holidays. Mine is also out in inclement weather. It's an all weather flag and is permitted by United States Code to remain outdoors during such.

Here is an excellent website that covers the useage of the flag.

mm:

Mine is in the back yard and cannot be seen from the front. Lotsa folks do see it from the golf course, and it gets many positive responses as a result. Mine flies just about very day of the year...yes, it's lit after dark via spotlight. My Dad taught me flag etiquette and could not tolerate torn flags, mis-displayed flags, etc. A local right wing radio station that hates everything about the US distributed flags with their station logo last year at a high school football game. I called them out on it and was a bit of a hero (for a very short time Roll Eyes) as the result.

Be safe.

I guess I'm lucky. I live in a neighborhood where most of the homes fly the "Stars and Stripes" for Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, etc....

Unfortunately, I live in a neighborhood where most of the residents do not fly the flag. My mom and dad were both WWII vets, and they made sure the flag flew every holiday religiously. I have tried to maintain the same reverence for the flag. When I lived in Ohio I purchased a very nice nylon flag with embroidered stars and individual stripes. the flag and pole cost me about $60. After 9/11, here in Idaho, I flew the flag continuously. While the Winter Olympics were in SLC, my wife and I took a day trip to the venues. When I returned home I noticed that my flag was missing. Some bastard stole my flag and pole. My neighbors did not see anything out of the ordinary. I was so pissed off that it took me quite a long time to get another flag. My attitude was that this goddamn town was not worth me flying the flag just to have some SOB steal it. I just hope that the SOB that stole my flag showed it some reverence and did not desrerate it. I now fly a cheap flag. I have several nice flags but will not fly them here again. It is too bad, but that's how it is.

The flag of the United States of America flies on my porch most days (brought in at night because of no proper lighting).
