The New Mexico Peach Orchard is lookin' good. The sunflowers are small but plentiful. The chilis are doing just fine and I strung some wire from a new generator to the cabin for electric light. Wow! Talk about livin' high on the hog!

Did the weekly shopping (grocery, household) Friday afternoon. Cleaned house Saturday morning. Fried up a catfish dinner Saturday evening. Was useless Sunday but the husband grilled out some beautiful t-bones. Oh wait, I did bake the potatoes. That wore me out so bad I took a nap afterwards.

Friday I had the damn stent removed finally. Friday afternoon I went to an organic farm with the wife-to-be and held the basket as she picked tomaters and beans, and I made faces at the baby our friend had and tried to teach him bad words. Friday evening my better half pickled some beans and made the whole house smell like vinegar.
Saturday I did some shopping for the wedding reception (shrimp and bottled water), cleaned around the house some, then had dinner with an old friend and relaxed watching movies and chatting over a few bottles of wine. Sunday we went to the local farmer's market and spent too much money on tasty food and local honey, then watched another movie with friend from Saturday, then came home. Wife-to-be went to a friend's place and picked up a pressure canner, and we spent the remainder of the evening washing, cutting, and pressure-canning beans. Now she's at work and I'm on the sofa. Work at 3... it's been nice having a week and a half off, but a kidney stone is NOT the best way to do it... |

Lemme see...
Friday night I taught until 8p, then I got home and started my antibiotics. Been sick for a while but I finally saw the Dr. and have a plan and an expected recovery. I took Saturday easy, hanging out here and other low impact things. Stomache issues and the drama therein made me cautious to do anything too far from the water closet. Saturday afternoon we took our dog for a long walk in our local GGNRA park. Pacifica has recently opened up this land and I must admit that it's picture perfect. Family went their seperate ways Saturday night, so I went to the range. I brought a 627-0 among other things and tried some double action at 20 yards for head shots. Once I saw a pattern start emerging, I went with it and finished with the right eye and the nose - single action. Who says I'm not artistic? ![]() ![]() Sunday morning I spent detail stripping my 29-3 Classic Hunter, 627-0, 686-3 and 25-7. I haven't opened the sideplates on the 29-3 or the 627-0 for I-don't-know-how-long and once I cleaned and lubed them up with Reel-X, they were smooth as glass. Mag-Na-Port does a good action job. My friend called and invited us to pick blackberries on an easement at the foot of his street near the BART tracks in San Bruno, so we went and gathered up @ 5# of the tasty critters. Then end result was a pie and jam. Mmmm! ![]() ![]() "The laws that forbid the carrying of arms .....disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes." Friday - Happy hour with the guys I used to work with - the usual bitching and complaining except from Terry my ex-boss. He told me privately HR stepped in doing equalizing for salarys for people like him who got screwed by
our ex-director, and he got an 8% pay raise. I took home most of the Thai veggies/pork with p'tai noodles. Sat. A.M I went out at 6"30AM and took the hose to the hedges and set a sprinkler turned it off after 30 min. and the 25-30 quail - mom with their cute little broods were playing in the water At 9AM my shooitng buddy showed up and we drove down to the range in Lewiston ID. Stopped by a sporting goods store, I picked up some .38 special & 9mm, as well as handled an RIA Tactical 1911. Shot the 3" Bbl. S&W 60 at the range, most I've shot in one session, 70 rounds I'm liking it. The CZ 75B sure is happy to adopted by an out of the old eastern block - flawless operation. The S&W 1911 had no problem with a couple of different types of JHP but had 4 FTF with Federal 165 gr. No Lead bullets so I tossed them in a bag to examine later. WHopper at BK took too long for service so it'll be a while before we go back there. Sat. Afternoon, & SUnday ate up the Thai stuff and cruised the net, listened to geezer rock, and the Mariners losing more games. 'bout time I cleaned them guns. Laundry day as well Randall Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. - Dylan Thomas |

Passed through Lewiston at about 3:00 the same day on the way to the Nez Perce National Historical Center which is about ten miles south on HWY 95. My daughter is doing an internship there with the NPS for the summer. 107 degrees at the Center....tooooo toasty for me. I wanted to pass through earlier and head for higher ground to beat the anticipated heat but two of the three dogs made the aquaintance of a Porky Friday night, so Saturday morning was spent at the vet spending some good ammo $$$$. When the daughter got off her shift we did head for higher ground and camped at a lake at about 4,000 feet. It was still warm, but a lot less than 107 degrees. The plan was to head home early Sunday, grab the boat and head to the local lake. For no good reason, the Suburban spit all of it's fan belts in the middle of the wheat fields north of Lewiston. The belts weren't all that old so I don't know what the deal was. One must of broke and derailed the rest. I didn't get real far without a water pump belt in 100 plus degree weather. You really do have to love cell phones. I'm out in the middle of friggin' nowhere sitting in the shade of a grain elevator in my lawn chair sippin' on a cold beer and I was able to locate someone to come pick me up in short order. Spent the rest of the day snagging tools and new belts, returning to the scene of the crime, installing the new belts and making my way back home. Brian~ |

Sat. was sort of a laid back day. Wife didn't feel very well & we watched the Seattle Mariners lose another one. Did a few little Honey Doo jobs around the place then went by our rental house that that burned a couple of weeks ago. Contractor will start cleanup Monday, has a 30 yd.dumpster in the front yard. Sunday started to work on my tent trailer for Idaho buck hunt in Oct.with son in law & grandson. Clouded up a little 7 the wind came up so I quit for the day to watch the Mariners lose another on to Minnesota. No wonder they are in last place. Then the thunder & lightning started. Tent triler OK but I had some tools & utensils in there. besides the local tom cats like to sleep under it. Got that taken care of & watched a little TV before going to bed about 11. Then the thunder & lightning really put on a show. Our 2 Maltese Terriors are afraid of thunder & kept me awake till 3:30 AM. Shaking & whining, barking at times. So was not in the best of moods when 7:30 AM came. Wife got up at 5AM with the dogs so breakfast was very quiet. but the storm moved on. Read in the paper lightning caused a bunch of small fires along the coast then inland. Didn't get to sight in my .308 or go to the gun shop but all in all had a good weekend. I wish the same to all my friends on the Forum

Earlier last week, I found a 7-1/2" SS .44 Redhawk in decent condition for $325. Took it and picked up a new 4" Model 28 (yes, new, never fired!!!)
Went out to my friends farm and me and him spent 4 hours shooting 150 rounds out of the Ruger and 28. He brought his 686+ and 617. Drank some beers and started a fire and roasted hotdogs for lunch. Spent an hour stupivising another friend on some new drywall installation while drinking his beer and finally home to watch the Olympics. |

Not much, just my usual cosmopolitan kick-back schedule --- Sat. AM, visit Chicago's Oak Street Beach, with 80+ mom and 3 younger sisters (and a few thousand fellow beachgoers), to view part of weekend-long airshow. Cab to Greektown for lamb kabob lunch. Cab back uptown to John Hancock building, observe Illinois, Indiana, Southwestern Michigan, urban Chicago, and Blue Angels airshow (from above) on 94th floor observation deck !!! Rendezvous with mom and sibs at Drake hotel for cocktails in elegant lobby bar, then to Chicago Yacht Club to mingle with race weekend crews (this involved Margaritas, mixed dockside, in 2-cycle gasoline blender...), prime rib buffet, way cool old yacht racing trophies in display cases, historical photos, &tc. Then, leaving Mom behind at the Knickerbocker, cab to near southside, sibs and I catch up-and-coming jazz trumpeter Cory Wilkes at Andy's. Sunday AM, stroll a few blocks through elegant old neighborhoods to hustle and bustle of Rush Street --- brunch at Bistro Zinc, then curbside adieus sib Susan and I off to Field Museum of Natural History to see "Sue", the best of the world's T-Rex fossils, the Tsavo lions, and a special exhibit on Polynesian Isles, from whence came my sister's adopted child. Thence, delayed flight home to Phoenix. Had to wind down today by driving to Tucson, Sierra Vista, stopping briefly at Coronado National Monument, lunch at Bisbee Grille, business meeting in Tombstone, quick stops at Whetstone, Vail, then home to Mesa. Otherwise, an uneventful few days...

Friday:
Drove to Cascade, Montana, visited with friends, grilled some El Pollo Loco chicken, drank some beer and went to bed. Sat: Had breakfast with the same friends, troubleshot his '49 Willys electrical system, put together the smoker I brought with me. Finished prepping about 50 beef ribs for the smoker and started them up with a big pan of chips. Hooked up the drift boat, threw the kayaks into the truck and went up river (Missouri) a way and came back down on a 3 hour or so float, kayak trip. While waiting for him to go up and get the truck so we could take the boat out of the water, a couple of rafts of college age girls came asore, they were about 1/2 bottle of tequila and 1/2 bottle of Black Velevet down. I have never seen so many scantly clad youg ladies take turns going into the water to squat and pee. I guess it must have been the alcohol and the heat causing them to do that. At least it helped me pass the time while waiting for the truck. After that back to finish the ribs, drink huckleberry margaritias and hang out on the deck chatting and watching for satellites. Sun: Breakfast, load up and drive back to Spokane, via the Cabellas in Post Falls, ID to pick up a couple of the zero-G recliners thay have at half price. bob ____________________________________________________ Build a man a fire and he will be warm for the night.
