I've used it on my patients for decades. It works very well for some and not so much for others. Just like any other substance. Some swear by it. Others swear at it.

We're all going to either wear out or rust out if we don't careen over the cliff due to infortuitous concatenation of circumstances. If we keep our valves adjusted and our oil clean, we'll get a lot more mileage before either happens.

Appeared to help an ex-wife when she was taking chemotherapy for cancer. The Dr doing the chemo treatment suggested she try it for joint pain relief, but didn't guarantee that it would help. In her case it did help.

Don't have any idea about arthritis joint pain.

To answer the original question, yes, everyday.
My wife started taking the stuff a year ago for her knee. She was headed for replacement. Now with the glucosamine and condroitin, it has delayed the urgency.
I now take it.

Sure I carry a .45, a .50 is just a little too large.

If you dont mind me asking, what is wrong with your wifes knee? I inherited bad knees from my mother and her mother, and I am just 27. It flares up on me atleast once a month, sometimes more often, sometimes less, and seems to get worse everytime. But because of my age, replacement is out of the question. So, do you think that C.G. would help? The problem is the cartilage. The joint rubs wrong or something, and it rubs away the cartilage, so eventually, it will be bone on bone. And on the arthritis note, a very good friend of mine has rhematoid arthritis, and swears by the tanning bed. Even if you are old and gruff and think that tanning beds are the devil....they really do help her pain. She goes atleast once a week, and the heat eases her pain. Just a suggestion.

You need to use the form that contains MSM which is a sulfur compound that relieves the pain. It also depends on how well your body absorbs the form you are taking and the amount you are taking. It should take about a month before you see any results.

Also good muscle tone is required to hold the joints in alignment. So some form of moderate leg exercise should be tried to see if it helps.

At that point I have broken a good sweat, am warmed up & am ready to "exercize". Then I hit the weight machines. I try to do most all of the machines but just 1 set of 10-12 using as much weight as I can handle without injurying myself. Finally go to the free weight room & work out with both dumbells & bar bells. I don't use a lot of heavy weights (barbell= 120 lbs, dumbells = 50 lbs). but I try to use all the bench positions: flat, inclined & declined. I also don't do a lot of "sets". I do just 1 set of 10-12 of as much weight as I can handle. For me the gym is my fountain of youth. The other big benefit of exercize is the release of "brain soothing chemicals"(endomorfins?). These refresh your mental outlook & makes you feel "better" about the world aroud us.
41, what supplements do you take & what are your results? Preston

Sgt...you are doing what most people try and then give it up after they start to feel good. Wink I always wanted to get one of the Chuck Norris exercise machines. Maybe some day.

To get started on what nutrition supplements to take, I would recommend subscribing to Dr Sinatra's Newsletter. If you sign up for two years, he will send you a bunch of supplements that describe solutions to different problems. Prevention is the key by eating the right foods, exercise and weight control. Plus adding the right supplements. I take his Qgel supplement which is a water and fat soluble Coenzyme Q10. He has also written some great books.

Also another good reference is the Life Extension Foundation. It costs $75 a year but I just got the paper work to take the blood test for $200 which is less than half of what it would cost at most places. My Vitamin D level was borderline last year. Every doctor should belong to this foundation so they can keep up on the latest findings. Their Disease Prevention and Treatment book they send you is priceless. It covers all diseases medical treatment and nutrition treatment. It contains over 1600 pages.

Also it is important to drink good clean water. I use the water filter offered by Pure Earth which cost about $120 for the counter-top model (KDF/GAC PLUS CARBON BLOCK) that connects to the faucet. I have used this model since the early '90's. Jeff even has the spec sheet for the performance.

It is also good to monitor your blood pressure. I use the unit sold at Wal-Mart for about $50 (Omron) You can see your blood pressure change from day-to-day as you exercise, over eat Roll Eyes or engage in some other activity. Ever notice that a lot of people die during Thanksgiving and Christmas....they eat too much and have a heart attack.

There are also other newsletters by Dr. Julian Whitaker and Dr. David Williams. Dr Williams was the one that recommended SAMBUCOL to prevent sickness in the early 90's. It will boost your immune system and is taken at the first sign of a cold. I have even used it to cure an ear infection and a tooth ache. It has also been tested for the Avian Bird Flu and was 99 percent effective. Last year I went to see my doctor about the tick bite and since I hadn't been there since 1995, they destroyed my records. That didn't make me very happy since I had extensive physicals in the past.

On taking Vitamin E, you want to take the mixed form and 400 IU's is all you need. The mixed form has d-alpha, gamma, beta and delta tocopherols. Most vitamin E is alpha only which will reduce the gamma form. The d- is the natural while the dl- is the synthetic form.

May I humbly suggest that all of us with arthritis or joint problems would be better served by finding a good Rheumatologist, as opposed to exchanging folk remedies on a gun board.

Treating this shit is what these guys go through may years of training to do. Check out the link, you can probably find one near you.

Listen to Jim Shugart. I wasted quite a bit of money over about a year on the glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM regimen, and the only noticeable effect was the hellacious sulfur headaches I got from the MSM.

My osteopath recommended CosamineDS for a problematic knee/leg. It didn't do much for the knee but I was surprised that all those little joints in my feet suddenly loosened up. The first half mile of a hike was always painful but that's all behind me now. If you suffer from plantar faciitis (sp?) you may get some relief with this stuff.

Jim, I did. I paid a few visits to a specialist at the Houston Arthritis Associates. After X-rays he gave me a shot of cortisone, told me to take the glucosamine and start planning on a knee replacement. I've had the knee replacement but still take the glucosamine for other minor joint ailments.

Ya gotta be tough to get old.

Looks like I forgot to post Dr. Sinatra's website. Must be getting old Roll Eyes

http://www.drsinatra.com/

Here is his recommendations for joint health:

Top Ten Tips for Healthy Joints

1. Take 250-500 milligrams glucosamine sulfate (GS) three times a day with meals. GS promotes healthy joint cartilage and maintains joint fluid thickness and elasticity.
2. For a one-two joint-promoting punch, eat plenty of essential fatty acids like fish (salmon and mackerel are best), raw nuts, seeds, and flaxseed. Put some ground-up flaxseed on your cereal or drink this delightful flax shake.
3. Combine GS with 200 mg - 300 mg chondroitin sulfate which promotes joint health and elasticity of tendons and ligaments, as well as natural anti-inflammatories like Feverfew, white willow bark, bromelain, boswellin and cat's claw.
4. Methylsufonylmethane (MSM) is an organic sulfur compound that has been used traditionally to help your body build cartilage, collagen, and connective tissue, all of which are necessary to keep your joints strong and pliable.

I began using MSM after a particularly bad bout with my shoulder and I really attribute much of the improvement I experienced to this remarkable nutrient*—which is why I recomment 600 mg daily in new Joint Solutions.
5. Drink 1 or 2 cups daily of ginger or green tea, a natural inflammatory.
6. Exercise regularly at least three times a week — to increase muscle strength, and restore range of motion and flexibility.
7. Take a 4:1 ratio of omega-3 oils (fish and flax seed) and omega-6 oils (evening primrose, borage oil or black currant oil). In other words, if you consume 4,000 mg of fish oil, take 1,000 mg of one or a combination of omega-6 oils.
8. Avoid sodas, caffeine and chocolate.
9. Take 100 mg - 250 mg daily of the herb curcumin, a natural pain reliever without the tendency to trigger gastrointestinal bleeding.
10. Take 200-400 mg of SAMe 2-3 times daily for pain control.
