In addition to the stocks I got in a box of miscellaenous stuff I bought at an auction, I got this stuff. What the heck is it ? The one thing looks like some kind of old military bipod. Looks pretty old, it's got rust on it.
Then there are what looks like some kind of military batteries. What would these go to ?
Last are some kind of clips, probably military.
I got a box of probably 100 of these.
Can anybody shed some light on this stuff ?
Thanks for your help.

Don't know much about this kind of stuff but that never stopped me before.

The last pic looks like links from a disintegrating belt from a machine gun. Now you just need a BMG.

With the knowledge on this board I doubt you'll have to wait long to find out what they really are.

Cooter, that's exactly why I put it here. I think maybe it's an older crowd hangs out here or something but these guys seems to know a lot more than people on other forums. On a lot of the other forums, there are a lot of kids and while we all know they know everything, sometimes they just don't know what I'm looking for.
Stevie, I found a bipod like it on E-Bay and you are right. Thanks.

Major, I never thought about that. This guy was definetly into stuff like that.
These are military batteries.
The guy passed away a couple of years ago so chances are the batteries are no good, I would think.
I'm just trying to decide what to sell, what to throw away and what to keep.
It's been really fun going thru these boxes. I just bid based on the stuff I could use. Like one box had 6 boxes of PMC 9mm in it plus a bunch of misc. I just bid what I would pay for the 9mm. I lucked up and there were only two other guys there that were remotely interested in the stuff so I ended up getting 3 boxes of ammo and miscellaneous plus I bought a Redfield bore sighter.

for number 2, I never saw it before, but I know how to use google.

It looks like it is a mercury battery for a gunsight. Big Grin

http://usmilitary.about.com/library/milinfo/marinefacts/blnightsight.htm

Specifically an AN/PVS-4 Individual Weapon Night Sight.

It is apparently a mercury battery. It may still be good, I'd put a voltmeter on it and see.

Apparently mercury batteries can last up to 10 years.

They have apparently replaced it with a lithium primary cell. A 5567.

I see that it was made in 1985. Unless they refrigerated it, it's probably ready to start leaking mercury all over the place.

Any mercury battery experts around?

I will try to remember to ask at work. Got some battery experts there.

Thanks for the info. I never thought to search google for the battery number. Good idea.
I did a search on E-Bay for "military batteries" but pretty much came up empty.
Yeh, being 23 years old, these things are probably ready for the garbage can or maybe the recycle bin.

Most all of the PVS-4s around, including mine, have had adapters intalled that take two AA cells.

Thedr, I believe you are right. I saw one on E-Bay that went for $20. This one has a couple of bad rust spots so I doubt it's worth much, if anything.
I just wanted to find out what it was.
You guys have been a big help. (as always)

I had a bi-pod like that. It just spring-clamped around the barrel (or maybe elsewhere on the gun). Looks cheap, but is a lot more sleek than those adjustable monstrosities you see on bolt-action varminters (which I wouldn't hesitate to use if I gained more accuracy, but they do ruin the lines of a sleek rifle).

You have been given a good ID on the Bi-pod-..this is an old version probably for an M-16, the battery is for an NVD or NVG (Night Vision Device or goggle) I don't remember which version it will fit-may be NVG6s. Depending on the size-the link is for an M-60 machine gun ammunition belt (7.62) (although it could be for a Squad Automatic Weapon (5.56) or M-2 (.50 cal.) depending on how big it is)-you can imagine that thousands of these would litter a machine gun range, along with expended brass!

The bipod is for the M-16 series of rifles(clamps under the front site).I was issued one with a nylon case when I played Squad Automatic Rifleman( before m-249).Never used it much, just remember if you use it it will change your point of impact(usually much higher)
