Felix, as you remember, is my black & white cat that had a bad habit of "indescretionary peeing". He has tagged an expensive suitcase in the past and you can't keep a duffle bag on the floor. But he adores me and is a smart and affectionate cat. I've had him for 7 years, since he was a bit over 6 weeks old. He protects the older cat Binki, my husband Charlie's 15-year old cat, when the dog gets rambunctious; he sleeps next to me; he sits on the side of the tub when I shower. I forgive him his trespasses.
However, Charlie has a different view. He can't stand Felix. He chases him down and hits him if he finds a pee spot. Then Felix spends a day or so locked up in the bathroom with his food & litter. As of late, urine has been found in Charlie's shoes and slippers. I had two sheepskin rugs used as coffee-table throws which were soaked with urine one morning. Even I was upset by this and showed it to Felix and told him NO. Saturday night, Charlie found two older wet spots on the new piece of carpeting cut as an entryway throw. He caught Felix and beat him, and beat him harder when Felix bit him on the hand, and threw him into the bathroom. Felix was traumatized. I had no choice. Sunday, Father's Day, I signed Felix over to the no-kill shelter. He can start fresh with people who will be kind to him and there won't be any "pissing contests", so to speak. I am heartbroken over this. But it seemed best for all. This morning, there was a fresh, soaking pee spot on the new entryway rug. Felix had been set up by Binki. Now I'M pissed. |

Barb,
That's terrible, can you get Felix back? I have three little dogs and find turds around the house occaisonally. We call them phantom poopers because we never see it and we can't be sure whodunit. Bill US Marine 13 Years and counting NRA Life Member |

The shelter will never give him back. I put on the release form as the reason for giving up my beautiful, healthy cat: Husband hates cat.
That hasn't changed. Shelters are very protective of animals in their custody, as they should be. |

My wife would be take me to the shelter and keep the cat. (We have three and there is a contest between my BellaDonna and my wife over who is queen of the house)

I thought you were going to say you caught Charlie peeing on the rug.
Sorry about the loss of your pet though. |

I'd say Binki can go join him. I hate to sound harsh, Barb, but that's what I'd do.
Don't carry a gun because of what may happen today. Carry because once, just once, and at the least likely time imaginable, you may run into the worst monster you ever could imagine. Be their worst nightmare and resist them with all the stubbornness that our pioneer ancestors posessed. To do less is to be unamerican. |

Send your buddy down to "adopt" the cat!
An easy, if devious plan. |

Several years ago, my wife's cat went nuts and started pissing in our new house. I won't put up with cat piss in the house. I told my wife and daughter "The old cat is going outside. I'll make him a house to sleep in. If I catch him in the house, I'll shoot him". She claimed he was "sick". I said "Get him fixed up then, cause he is living outside".
He is soon going to be 18 years old. He lives on the front porch, watching the world go by. He sleeps in his "cat house". He will defend his porch against all comers(cat, dog, possum, or racoon). Cat piss in the house... |

Not saying anything you don't know, but this is not about cats. It's about Charlie and you.
I do think part of a good marriage is learning to forgive. Forgiving is easier when the forgivee, as it were, understands, acknowledges, hizzer transgression. I'd say Charlie ought to be looking for some forgiveness 'cause it sure seems from what you describe, Barb, that he was in the wrong. PO'd as you are, tho, I'd counsel a very deep breath, and some thought on this. One is a husband, and the other a cat. But you are right to be angry. Good luck with it. |

Thank you. It just wasn't fair. I don't know what will happen next. Charlie said he'll try to get the cat back but I don't think that will happen. An apology would be nice, but I don't think that will happen either. There's no point in me being angry; nothing's going to come of that either.

Barb, I had the exact thing happen about 10 years ago. We had an older cat (7 years old) as a family pet. We came across a beautiful tortoise shell colored Persian kitty we added as a family member. The kitty was very affectionate and had a great playful nature.
Soon we were having similar problems like you discribe. Pee and poop in all the wrong places. So we sent it for adoption. We later discovered (witnessed) the older cat was doing similar deeds in the yard when neighbor cats were coming around. Yep, Cats are evil to new comers! Sorry you learned the hard way as I did. Poor kitty. ***Honesty is the foundation of one's character.*** |

Gee, that's too bad. They are what they are. If you can't live with that, then it's time for them to go.
I would never beat a dog or a cat. Yep, time to let poor old Felix go. "The last Boy Scout." |

Are you sure that Charlie that did not set up Felix?
Similar occurence, we have a two year old and a 12 year old schnauzers. We found a pee stain on the tile hallway and the two year old got his face pushed in it amd a sound whooping as he was fingered by my 4 year old boy. Another puddle on the tile a few days later, and the same result. The area was staked out with a camera, sure enough it was the 12 year old and we find out she has kidney stones - there goes my tax refund off to the vet. BIG apologies and treays to the 2 year old schnauzer. ......................................... Well, husband called and said, "Did you call that place?" I said, "No. I thought you were going to." He said, "All righty."
He called back and said, "They said come get him." Yay! My baby will be home when I get there this afternoon. And Charlie will be good to him. I'll make sure of it, even if Felix has to sleep in the laundry room at night so he has an alibi. |
