The new re-offering of the Model 63 "Kit" gun would be a heck of a lot handier if they also offered it with a 3" Bbl. Length. THe current offering is great in that they also updated the cylinder to be an 8 shooter, but the 5 inch Bbl. Len. reaally imo llimits it as a 'handy' platform, or belt gun. THe only gun it compares or is a brother to is the Model 60 5" Bbl. Len. but how many of the 60 5" Bbl. are sold ahead of the 3" Model 60s?

I'd also like to see the 63 Kit gun offered in .22 Mag. regardless of Bbl. Len. S&W can put whatever Model nubmer on it ( 651? ) they want just make them.

I e-mailed them about shorter barreled 63's and you can join in.

A 22 mag version would be a 651 - which did come in a snubby version. I had the normal version and, of course, sold it before the price rocketed as it was taken out of the line.

On, the down side, I found it would glue up with 50 rounds or so due to unburned powder. At 5 or so yards, a paper target got covered with residue.

But, it was fun for awhile.

I recently read of someone with a 51 that had a 3 1/3 inch Bbl. Maybe that would burn
more powder?

I'd like the 63 with a 3" thankeyeveddymuch.

I've sent them an email suggesting either a 3 inch or idealy,3.5 inch version.As it is,it's sort of a strange bird-small frame,long barrel,tiny hammer.It's not a target gun or a pocket pistol.
I've been holding off the purchase of one in hopes that they will see the light.

I owned one of the old Kit Guns in .22 Magnum, and it came with a 3.5" barrel. It had terrific muzzle blast/flash and was expensive to shoot! It is one of the few S&W's I've ever owned that I did not later regret selling.

I'll also take a 22mag. Any short barrel, any model number they want to call it!

Well, the 351PD is available but after the experience shared here nuts with the 651 shorter than a 5" Bbl. thought. However, the 63 3" Bbl. I still want for a pairing with my
60 3" Bbl. near the same weight/balance.

I need one for the grandson who is due on the last day of July - my younger daughter's first and she found out last month the sex.

This is my Model 650, which seems to come close to your wishes

I want one with the same dimensions and shrouded hammer as my 640-3. Don't know what the heck they'd call it, though.

My photography isn't much good, but for comparison see my Mod. 34 below my Taurus 941 8 round .22 mag. The bluing on my 34 is just fine, I got some weird reflection out on my deck on it.

I would love to have a mod # 63 with 3 inch barrel. If they would make it I would buy it.

Thanks tekarra! It's my "go to" outdoors favorite, perfect for the tacklebox. They are no longer made, but I see them from time to time on auction sites. I'm sure you can find one with a little searching Wink
