I want a 1917...

That, when viewed from the "business end" looks like you are driving through a tunnel!

So...make an X-frame 1917 in .500 Special.
So that it looks identical, just bigger! Big Grin

Bowen does a .50AE conversion of a Ruger Redhawk that looks like a 1917 S&W; so very cool.

Since we're on the subject of X- Frames who all has a 460 S&W?And how do you like it,I'm considering one due to the fact i can shoot .45LCs,.454s and the 460S&W.Has anyone heard if hornandy has released their flextip or SST projectiles for handloading the .460 yet?I like the idea but would like some feedback before I make a purchase.

A recent post in the reloading section reported very poor accuracy shooting Hornady 454 Casulls in the 460 Mag.

The 460 case is so much longer than the 45 Colt or 454 Casull that I would expect the long leap that bullets have to make from the case to the cylinder throats will deteriorate accuracy. That long jump can allow gas blowby and the high pressure of the 454 loads can cause bullet upsetting in the oversize cylinder section. It is then resized down at the cylinder throats. About the same effect as of grossly oversize throats in some Colt SAA guns compared to barrel bore diameter. Poor accuracy unless bullets are sized to the throats rather than the barrel groove diameter.

In this case you are shooting a .452" bullet through a .480" or so section of cylinder before it reaches the cylinder throat.

I have seen similar poor accuracy reports regarding the TC Contender 45 Colt/410 barrel and the Taurus Judge 45/410 revolvers when shooting 45 Colt for the same reason. Long bullet oversize chambers will deteriorate accuracy when using shorter ammo. One report on the Taurus noted frequent bullet keyholing at 25 yards with 45 Colt ammo.

While per S&W the 460 can safely shoot the shorter ammo I would expect best accuracy by far from ammunition that is full 460 cartridge length.

The difference in cartridge lengths is much greater in the 460 Magnum than is the case of shooting 38s in a 357 Mag or 45 Colts in a 454 Casull.

My 5" 625 loaded with the .45 AUto RIm and 225 gr. Barnes XPB bullets which have a .260
Dia. Hollow point looks a bit imposing with two of each of those in a full frontal view/photo.
I have a pic of it with that view - hammer cocked on an empty cyllinder of course so the
photographer would take the pic. heh.
