Does anyone know if S&W is making their own shotguns or are they made by someone else? Are they an import with the S&W logo and name on them?

Which Shotgun? I had an old 917 which was sold off and bought by mossberg later and then there is the S&W 3000.

The current S&W shotguns are made in Turkey

I didn't know Smith had gotten back in the shotgun business. I have had an old 916a since I was 10 years old that I thought for years was made by Howa. It was made by Smith though.
Combat Controller, are you sure yours isn't a 916?

Yeah, sorry, it was a 916... I sold it because it was terrible, and I ended up with a very used 3000 later. Night and day. I like it as much as my 870's...

Wow, I thought this was a dead thread.

Yes the current S&W semi auto's to be exact. I had just gotten the whole story from one of the local smith reps. They are made in turkey and smith bought the factory they are made in and i believe he said they only make the smith guns at that factory. He also stated that they make the gun from scratch to finish product there under S&W's guidance. How true it all is i don't know but i was satisfied with the answer.

Actually, based on the general simularity between the S&W 1000 series and the Stoeger 2000 series, I suspect they are both made by the same manufacturer in Turkey. I own a Stoeger and I can't tell any difference between them. Just my opinion,of course.

I have a S&W 1000p that I bought new in the late 80's made by Howa in Japan.
It looks similar to a Remington 870 28"
with a Ventilated rib.
