More hypotheticals, here...
What would be your reaction if S&W offered a .45 ACP similar to the S&W 296 "Centennial" .44 they had a few years back? Only, maybe they could make it more like the 640 -- as in, no hump. If Smith made it with a 5-shot capacity, what would be the smallest frame they could put it in? Would it have to go in an L-frame like the 296 -- if they made it in scandium or titanium? (I realize Smith has the 325PD -- but I don't like the snag-whatever-it-can hammer -- at all -- for CCW...) I'm looking for something with a concealed, internal hammer -- but preferably without the 296 "humpback"...in the smallest package possible -- with at least 5-shots. Would that fit into a K-frame? |

In an "L" frame revolver, it would be a peach of a handgun! IF S&W would get off of it's duff and create a 5 shot revolver the size of the Charter Arms Bulldog, (with a full underlug 3" barrel) they couldn't keep them on the shelves! Scott 10mm Auto... The most versatile auto pistol cartridge extant! Double Tap and 10mm Auto... when you're serious about survival! |

You can keep the full underlug. If I wanted a Python, I'd buy a Python.

Ford,
I wouldn't want anything extra on it -- so that I could fit it in a coat pocket -- or pants pocket on some baggy trousers and maybe a handkerchief between it and the pants to hide the outline. I think if would still fit in a pair of pleated Levis Dockers. No, I'm definitely not looking to duplicate a Python -- or have anything with a full underlug. I'm wanting as "compact" as possible. |

A 5 shot .45 ACP S&W the size of a CA Bulldog would make my short list.

Big bore AND the right size.
I'd even go for it in .40 S&W or .41 Special. |

I'd buy a Charter Arms Bulldog if in 45 acp, and certainly a Smith in similar size. My Taurus version just doesn't feel all that solid, has a "clanky mismash of parts sort of working together" feeling. rayb |

Great Idea. Unfortunatly the L frame maxes out at .44 special, otherwise they'd have put it in a .45 for more sales (opinion), and sadly .44's have never sold well (not oppinion).
I would like to see a Continental in J frame .357 (ala M60), L frame, and an N frame. Prefer Blue but Stainless Ok. Fixed sights (please make the sights taller, and the notch deeper and wider). 3 inch heavy barrels W/ Lug. Dovetail front sight, wit a replaseabe blade, should look closer like H Bowens. Medium checkering on the back of the grip and Fine on the topstrap and barrel (ala the older M27s. L frame 7 shots N frame 8 shots ...Ok and an L frame .44 in 5 shot variant. Cheers Troop |

A few years ago one of the contributors here photo-shopped the Clint Smith .44 Special. He turned it into a .44 Special 'Turdsucker.' (I wish I had kept the picture.)
Maybe someone here with the proper skills could photo-shop a .45 ACP K-frame Centennial? |

K frame size, 2.5" barrel bobbed hammer, DAO, 5shots. Picture a Scandium/Ti M12 with HiViz front and deep U shaped rear channel fixed sight.

Sorry to burst bubbles here, but I don't think even an L-frame will hold a 5-shot .45 cylinder, and even if it would, the forcing cone would be excessively thin. Remember, the .44 Special 696, which is really more of a ".43," has a very thin forcing cone, prone to cracking with lots of use or with heavy loads. It's a grand idea, but like so many grand ideas, not likely to pan out in the execution.
